Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Turdgiver
I actually thought part one was passable. Yes it ripped off most other sci fi films, no there wasn't anything original about it and yes there was a bit too much slow mo but if you took it for a piece of entertainment and not much more then it was watchable and enjoyable from a certain perspective. Part two on the other hand... Holy crap.
It's like Zack Snyder just picked scenes and concepts that he liked from other films and threw them together with no regard as to how to make them flow. The "character development" is lazy and laughable to the extent that I've watched over 4 hours of these two films and I can remember the name of just one character. The amount of slow motion used is ludicrous, the premise of the situation (a village supplying an amount of grain so small that it wouldn't feed the crew collecting it for more than 3 days) is a joke and there are so many other irritatingly stupid and questionable details to annoy you that you'll be glad when it's over. Will the now obligatory Snyder cuts be better? Let's hope so.
Napoleon (2023)
Should have been a 10 part series
There's so much available content to tell this story. Why the hell was it a 2.5 hour film rather than the multi part limited series it deserves to be? The film has over 20 years of history to cover but includes so many huge time skips that you can't help feeling that you're missing out on a huge amount. This should have been a series and given the writers and the actors the time they deserved to tell the story properly but instead we get something that seems rushed and has huge gaps in time where things are shunted forward just se we can reach the end of the story before time runs out. The acting is above par (Despite Phoenix mumbling through some scenes) and the action sequences are excellent but there is just a feeling that it could have been so much more.
One Piece (2023)
Overrated
I have no idea how this is so popular and highly rated. It's not terrible but after watching two episodes there's nothing that pulls me in and makes me want to watch more. From costumes to sets to the acting, the whole thing looks like a stage show that they decided to capture on film at the last minute.
I've seen much better Netflix shows that got cancelled within weeks of release. But since it's just viewing numbers that matter in Netflix world I'm sure there'll be another series of this in the pipeline before long and quite likely another truckload of similar manga to live action translations rolling along soon.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
Give the fans what they want!
If The Mandalorian and this episode in particular had come along 3 or 4 years ago then maybe D & D would have taken note of the reaction and done a proper job of giving GOT fans what they wanted instead of what they got.
This episode had and gave Star Wars fans everything. I could happily watch this series again and again. Even my wife, who wasn't a Star Wars fan, got invested in the show and looked forward to our Friday nights sat watching The Mandalorian. At the end of this episode she was cheering and emotional just like the rest of us life long fans.
Well done to everyone involved
