Rick and Morty (2013)
Best new cartoon show 2013!
The show feels fidgety in the beginning. At first it makes you take a second to get used and into it. But it's as intelligent and hilarious a show as I haven't seen one since a long time! That's what I and hopeful many other viewers are going to realize after a couple of minutes. It'S one of those shows that wouldn't happen to be without Adult Swim. Not exactly a family show. Anyways - this show is brilliant. The humor is not as cheap as in most of the successful cartoons and the show is not as comfortable to watch, but that's one thing that makes it so hilarious. It's really dark sometimes, and the viewer with a good sense of humor will appreciate that. The only thing that might make the show a bit better is that the creators could make the characters a bit better known and thus more likable to the viewer. Like this a plot as in episode 6 (SE1) would work even better. Well, the characters maybe a bit flat still, but the plots and happenings are making all this acceptable. Amazingly funny and thoughtful story line for a 20min cartoon show. The sad part is, that it might not really be for the rank and file and as a result might not last for too long or even be recognized by too many people. I really hope this goes on for a while, though! I love this show - it's great. Keep up the good work
PS.: I hope they take one or two scientists on board to help them with Grandpa Rick to keep him on track regarding scientific accuracy. But that'S just a personnel tic of mine...
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
What???
I don't know how some of the reviews here are so positive! Bad. bad movie. All the happenings seem so constructed, that I couldn't stop thinking why the figures in the movie act so stupidly. Very bad writing. The scenery can be good from time to time. But the events in the movie just seem like none of the characters could make A SINGLE logic and useful decision. 2 stars because it had some good pictures in it. Otherwise more than horrible movie that made me think "What? Oh, come on!" about a hundred times. it almost seems like a spoof of a good vs. bad plot. And on the way we have a bunch of bad jokes to mess up this movie even more.
Bernie (2011)
Could have been a really good modern Woyzeck, but...
Nice movie, little different from time to time, really watchable. Also a great chance to think and talk about freedom, determination, guilt and our judicial system. The acting of Jack Black: Superb! The casting was great, even the fake interviews where great and the towns people were very believable. ONE BIG EXCEPTION: Matthew MacConaughey. He was the only one that made this whole movie a little bit of a farce and very unreal. Casted to play a simple minded, full of himself wannabe Cowboy, who knows how to get what he wants, he had to overact sometimes and the way he talked and acted just in very few moments seemed believable. The way the character was interpreted would have been OK for some overacted slapstick comedy flick, but not for such a dark, slow, intelligent comedy as it was intended here. McCanaughey can play NYC-Lawyers, sharp criminals, brilliant detectives, maybe an non likable guy as they tried in Bernie, but not from a small Texas village - he has more the vibe of a douchy rich guy, or a totally arrogant guy from a big City, everything but a guy from a Small Village. I find this problem often in Hollywood movies that play in one-horse towns like this. They sometimes try to make their pretty famous actors fit for these roles, but a stupid accent, a cotton mouth, stupid behaviour and shitty clothes just don't make a transformation complete if you have a face like an angel, hair like a queen, teeth like a Hollywood star, skin like a child, a body like an adonis and the attitude and pronunciation of a Harvard graduate. It just ends in unbelievable overacting and trying to be a redneck-sheriff type of guy just ended in overacting and a bit of a farce here in this context, too. And because of being so present in the second part of the movie, for me he destroyed the whole picture that was intended to be delivered to the viewer. Shame on you, casting crew! I feel sorry for ALL the other actors that where so perfect in this movie!!! Without MC I'd give the movie a 7 or even an 8. With him it was a 6-. But still: watch it, it is entertaining and some scenes are just brilliant!
thanks for reading.
Super 8 (2011)
Awful.
1 Star from me, because it is very awful. thanks. I can't even be bothered anymore to say why, because it is just a waste of energy. Hollywood movie - one dimensional - worthless. Don't watch it. Sorry if this review has no content, but it is just the usual bad Hollywood piece of loud pictures and a waste of ANYTHING. Well I have to get 10 lines full for a review so, I talk about nothing just like the movie. I am right now lying on my bed and writing a review about this movie being annoyed that I wasted 2 hours of my live with it - yes it is one of those movies - What is it that a movie like this gets review-points over 70% on IMDb and other review- pages? WHAT A LOW STANDARD - any person could make a movie like this. Please people - raise your expectations! This movie doesn't deserve anything - watch it if you need to waste time. But don't pretend as if this was good. It is just not! Just Sound effects, visual effects and a very very very one dimensional story - nothing really worth mentioning.
Thor (2011)
Not good
It's a story a 14 year old would write. The involvement of "usual earthlings" in this movie was tried very stupidly. Seriously? Thor, the son of Odin falls in love with an (always perfect looking) meteorologist in about three days and then his evil brother makes this an issue in their final fight and all of them are a little bit naive so that it comes to all these? All the roles are a little overacted, as usual, but the bad brother is paiiiiiiiinfully overacted, but this must be a fault of the director, too, not only the actor - Thor and Odin must be total idiots if they'd not notice that the dark, silent always sarcastic and mean sounding guy will be a risk at some point? I know that it is the same in the Greek myths, but at least in the original stories the gods always act childish with a trigger - Thor is just acting like a 5 year old and grows to be a wise man on earth by finding love in a couple of days: Just beyond horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a soap opera with very expensive Visuals - such a waste of acting skills on some of the guys in the movie - well, this is where the money is - people like easy entertainment. I would take such a role, too, if I were a Hopkins. The love story due to bad overacting and a lack of time is very unconvincing by the way. It's alright that these movies exist in vast numbers, but I hate that people seriously try to claim that this is a good movie - it is a very nicely presented, piece of garbage - just because the picture and sound quality are very good because of a lot of money, this still is a bad movie. IMDb maybe would need some categories like the Oscars to rate the movies so that people can distinct between entertaining movies and actual pieces of the art of cinematography. This is just couch potato entertainment - hope these things get less expensive in the next years. It is a waste of money. This is just craftsmanship - and very simple. TIP: If you wanna watch a decent entertaining movie go for blockbusters around an 8,0 rating on IMDb, as these movies get rated by so many people with no clue that movies like Thor that deserve something like a 5,0 rating end up in the 7,0 area. All in all: this is not a good movie but just entertainment for lowbrow consumers - enjoy!
The Town (2010)
Just OK. You will probably love it if you are discerning...
Well, as there is a lot of money in this movie, the atmosphere is good, the actors are quite good, the sound, the colors and the camera work are good, but the most important thing on a movie like that, a story that seems real and close to life, to make the movie authentic and absorbing, is yet again destroyed by the needs of the average viewer of the big budget movies of our time. Or if the script would at least be somewhat creative. No, that one even less. Seriously, the story did hurt my brain from time to time. A love story? One coincident after another? Again: A love story??? ... Tip: Similar experience, waaaaay better Regie, Music and Script: Badlands(1973). Just as a tip for all you out there that are poisened by Hollywood and think that "The Town" is a really good movie. It isn't. It's entertaining, because the thrill and the action are OK, the feeling of the police thread for the bank rubbers is also good (by far the best part), but its far from being a really good movie entirely, mostly because the people in the movie are constantly doing things that seem absurd.
The Informant! (2009)
Not bad at all
In advance: I personally would give the movie about 7 out of 10, but the reviewers here (and in so many other movies) make me give it an 8. Here this is just to counter the bad reviews this movie gets. Again, we have a movie with not enough action for the Hollywood spoiled viewer. And right away the movie is said to be an average, too slow and not worth watching piece of work. Yes, 6.7 is not a bad mark, but if I see other movies that are transparent, flat and could be made by a bunch of monkeys that get ratings well over the 7, this movie is relatively underrated. It is a good movie with a little bit to laugh, a little bit to think and a little bit of constant excitement and within that manages to stay somewhat realistic and plausible. Some people might be missing scenes in twilight with dramatic faces and dramatic music or might insist on some more knee-slappers, but that's not how it is in real life. That's how people want it in their movies. But usually things go a little bit more smooth and quiet and seemingly harmless as it is shown in this movie. Well, what I missed in this movie was a little bit of more psychological insight in the character of Whitacre (Matt Damon). Sure there are enough cornerstones to outline his personality (for a movie) and for some viewers more information could have been too hard to chew for such an easy watch - still I would have preferred a little more drama towards the end - but I guess that would be really just me. All in all a very decent movie - nice to watch - not overly exciting or killingly funny - but still very interesting to watch. Not at all the bore some reviewers acclaim it to be. They are just used to the dramatic and overdrawn mainstream crap. And if Matt Damon is on board, you get these people to review a movie. Don't let yourself be fooled by the bad reviews - within the stories limits Mr. Soderbergh created a good movie for a smooth private movie evening. You will not need popcorn though - so pick another one, fatty!
