The Invitation (2022)
Good film, lots of fun.
The idea behind this was very good.
Wish there was a bit more vampire action than everything squeezed in at the end. The very ending could have been a bit more fun too.
But generally the story was good, couldn't have been longer and more detailed.
But I enjoyed it. It was a fun storyline. The characters were believable well acted.
Don't listen to the bad reviews, some people are just too moodyand moan about everything.
Watch it for what it is. At just 1hr and 45 mins, as mentioned could have been longer, detailed with a stringer ending.
Now just typing to filled the quota of characters... done.
Them (2021)
The 5 stars is for the acting, BUT....I can't promote the hatred of the 1st series.
Series one, I question the purpose of it. What is it promoting? How people were treated back in the day, to raise awareness and understanding. Or was it reminding people of the hate and trying to incite it in this day and age. Either way the torture didn't seem like it would get any better.
Why would African American writers keep putting this archaic, hate inciting crap on TV?
Is this what white studios want? In this day and age? To keep the next generations to continue the hate and prejudice?
Is this what producers want for us to keep reliving their historic torturing of people with darker skin tones?
Reliving, which is what WE do daily. This type of thing happened and was worse for African,Asians and Latino people across the world.
So many, reviews, 'I had to binge, its amazing, terrifying'. Because they enjoy this type of torture, racism.
Another post said 'It is our history', no it is not. Our history was marked with white hate, miseducation and paranoia. Lies and propaganda. OUR HISTORY is that we survived and still trying to gain equality and the freedom to have a life.
This is white history, of kidnap, hate, murder, brutality, delusion and an odd sense of superiority, which was and is all in your mind.
So much of the first series and brutality demonstrated how so much hasn't changed but the baby, the assult the unnecessary, dragged out display of the hatred and unapologetic white supremacy behaviour? The fact these people felt they had the 'right' to just break in and enter a person's property. What was this in aid of? Again. To open eyes to the horror of the past or to incite this type of behaviour today.
After episode 5, I realised that the storyline is filled with so much hatred. I knew that it would not improve.
There is no positive ending.
So, I started watching series 2. Because the actors are great.
I am hopeful that series two will be more relevant and hopeful. Series one plays on stereotypes and amplifies them.
What WTAF was the point?
3 Body Problem (2024)
Visually pleasing, but thats it. Rushed and missing the point.
The moment I heard Netflix was doing a version. I was so excited as the book blew my mind. Probably one of the best books I have ever read.
I discovered by accident the Chinese version and bought it just before the Netflix version came out.
Visually the Netflix version was amazing, but the story lacked. The actors were not great, the east Asian actors were much better.
The story is rushed with no depth or understanding, leaving those who haven't read the book or watched the Chinese version, hearing the bare bones of a truly epic story.
It's seems more money making and batardises the essence of what this story is truly about.
Disappointing. This would have been Netflixes crowning glory.
Oh well.
San ti (2023)
Exceptional - true to the novel
I refrained from watching the Netflix version as I discovered the Chinese version.
We ordered it and watched an epic version, honouring the book, coupled with some great acting.
The VR versions within the story, I believe we're fit for purpose and mirrored a lot of current VR games which made it look honouring the book further.
The series offers 30 detailed episodes, not structured like the book, but offered more suspense in story telling.
Th subtitles in English were very quick, but after a while you get used to it.
I would HIGHLY recommend you watch this version rather than the Netflix version. The story from start to finish was beautiful, with some great acting and delivered with dignity to the women which was amazing.
9 stars only because of how fast the subtitles were. But I cannot give 9.5 because that was a minor issue.
Anthracite (2024)
So. MANY. twists!! Watch this!
This is weird, twisty, story rich of past and present.
This series represents so much under one theme... Never, make assumptions p, particularly in a town that seems sleepy.
This series centres a round a cult, that was within this sleepy town. However in modern day it is clear the remnants of its impacts still lingers on.
Within the story of the cult, weaves another story of corporate assumed experimentation.
Broken family story, incest, abuse, depression, miscommunication, mental abuse and murder.
This series has it all. There are a lot of reviews that have an issue with Ida, one of the main actors, but I'm not sure why.
Theacing is OK. But the story keeps you hooked.
Not superb but a great, disturbing, memorable watch. Watched it all in one sitting.
Fallout (2024)
A stark look at a possible dystopian future
I haven't played the game but aware of the plot.
This a is programme worth watching for many reasons;
Successful game adaptation, mostly
Good acting, some great
A crazy yet believable dystopian future for humanity
It keeps you drawn in from episode one
Nothing over the top with CGI, which is a bonus
I would highly recommend it, I hope season 2 will eclipse season one and not be a filler, like most series.
I'm not giving the plot away for this very reason. There is no hype but facts.... butwatch it with an open mind. Discard the game plot and just watch the series.
It will be a bumpy ride.
Be helpful to your fellow humans, okie dokey 😉
Wish (2023)
Brilliant story for children. Disney is recognising the world is changing. This is brilliant and excellent to evole children's minds.
Disney has to evolve, which I believe it is doing.
Yes Wish. Is not like some of the classics, but it is great that more stories are original than a 'retelling'.
This story is made for children and this story is inspiring for their minds.
How to be critical thinkers and how to not give your goals and aspirations away.
It shows the person they all praised and believed as magnificent, is actually a narcissistic, megalomaniac.
The world is changing and the future is uncertain, but it is teaching the next gen to not bow to dictatorships.
Hard-core feedback I know. But Disney is improving. More inclusive, realistic and political.
Good on ya !!
The Kitchen (2023)
A classic, just you wait and see.
A stark view of London in a world that looks too familiar today, with The Kitchen being the documentary of what could be.
Yes, this film seems slow or not enough action. But this is not meant to be that kind of film. It is because you are not listening and not really seeing the message that is splashed over screens from start to finish.
Fear, austerity, displacement, struggle, solidarity, humanitarian, desperation, survival, little sprinkles of simple happiness, Al in a form of mild dictatorship, factional warriors trying to support their struggling brothers and sisters, those desperate for a different life, unemployment due to AI, and a '1984' vibe with drone surveillance and police brutality of the people just trying to find a means to an end.
I was not too sure about this film, but waking up from the night before with it still on my mind, I now realise it is a cult masterpiece, that will shake and ruffle some people.
The scarier aspect of this film is how this could be a future for a capitalist London. Or a fact of where we are heading, the riches greed becoming the downfall of londoners on the breadline.
The deaths that take place in these areas because you cannot afford a proper burial, cremated, with your ashes mixed with soil. Grown to a tree.
Although that seems great from an environmental perspective, it is also a highlight of how dispensable those on the breadline are.
A forest, I guess, or planted in richer neighbourhoods, where the poor are repurposed.
Factions created to highlight the desperation. Then shared with those in The Kitchen estate, showing that dystopian futures will bring those struggling together.
Great film, slow, short storyline, but effective from those that open their eyes and ears.
Invasion (2021)
Small minds can't watch this - great programme if you are intelligent
I'm on to the second series.
I love this programme. The series, so far, gives you an idea of a invasion in real time. Or something similar, or an idea of how it could be.
It is super intelligent, gripping and delivered brilliantly.
It's not perfect but it's better than so many action/sci-fi fearfu versions.
Intelligent minds will appreciate this. Due to the pace, the information and the suspense.
Ignore the bad reviews. They do not have the 'bandwidth' to see a future classic programme.
Well done Apple, another great new series to get the mind engaged.
Give this series a chance, you will be rewarded in the end.
Painkiller (2023)
Very good, but Dopesick was a better version
A series well worth the watch. Showing how the rich can commit murder and get away with it.
How people of much fairer skin can be drug dealers on a global level, found guilty but can pay their way out of a conviction.
Great series, however Disneys Dopesick is a better delivery on the matter. Matthew Broderick was brilliant, and Uzo Aduba stole the show.
Great watching, heartbreaking subject. Micheal Jackson, Prince and countless others have died/ overdosed from using this drug.
This is why people should study the benefits of different foods/ vegetables/ pulses/ fruits/ edible plants/ holistic options. It's time to take down big pharma. Suppressed pain is not a cure.
Drops of God (2023)
Brilliant, vibrant, bold 😏
Slow, to start but a beautiful story. So much going in in each episode.
Drama, suspense, twists and not forgetting the urge to want to become a sommelier.
Really loved the story, although it the story became a little predictable towards the end it was still brilliantly told.
The actors, all were exceptional, bringing the characters and the story alive.
It is a shame there isn't a second series sounding the siblings taking down Luca.
I loved the multilingualaspect of this too. If only more series were like this. Sense 8 was the closest but yep. Highly recommended. Great binging, bring some great wine and enjoy.
The Afterparty (2022)
Love This!!!
I think this is one of the best this on, from a comedy perspective.
It's brilliantly acted, each episode has its own personal flare which offers different dimensions in storytelling. The 'murder, who dunit' is a trendy forgotten theme, has been brought back in films and now a series.
Everyone love intrigue and suspense, and this brings it, but it's the storytelling that wins over everything else.
It offers fun fir all tastes, which I think is rare. I hope it continues to another few series due the where they can take it. Keep it coming.
I love it. Everyone particularly, Haddish is brilliant!!
Yellowstone (2018)
I really wanted to like it... but its too backwards in this day and age
Great actors BUT this series is glorifying the theft of land. It glorify colonialism and how it is prevalent today.
It makes the victims looks like vultures and criminals, playing to stereotypes made by colonialists.
Disappointed that shows like this still exist in this day and age.
Stopped watching after episode 7, when Costner said ' It's America, we don't share land'. Utterly disgusting considering the land was 'acquired' through trickery and manipulation. Typical of colonialists injecting separatism.
The 3 is for that line alone, the acting was good. But typical rich dysfunctional family, has been played out for too long.
Blonde (2022)
Was it made to make us react?
Ana (the lead actress) amazing!! The book this was taken from is a fictionalised version of Marilyn's life.
Sadly she had been through some horrific abuse, mental and sexual.
I am just not sure of the point of most of the film. It is short bursts of different aspects.
The question sadly is,because of the abuse, the misogynistic underlining factor. Who was this film made for? Men who have fantasised it? Or are we given a opportunity to feel her pain or watch her break down.
The acting is great, the filming/ direction is sweet.
It is a shame. She was used and abused, and looked like she had no control over her own life.
Loot (2022)
Love this... ignore the bad reviews
I am not sure why there are bad reviews, but then again IMBD seem to allow programes/ films with black leads to get panned, with prejudice overtones.
This programme is brilliantly done, well scripted, acted and the humour is intelligently sound, that I feel sorry for the people who wrote the bad reviews.
I guess they do not get simple, intellectual humour weaved into a great story line.
Watch it. I can't wait for the next series.
Each character is brilliant, personable and unique.
Love, love, love.
The King's Man (2021)
So, much more
Watching the first two films, I was going to watch the third installment, particularly as it is an origin story.
The script was very interesting, particularly the honesty about the true nature of the British Empire, the outlook on wars and their true intent.
There was so much happening that I had to give it a nine. Some parts of the story were a little flaky but overall a really good eye opener.
I was shocked when his son died, I truly was not expecting this but it was the catalyst behind the first Kingsman agency.
A true wake up call for the masses.
Silent Night (2021)
Dystopian possibility
Not sure why there are so many negative reviews.
This is a different story, a different idea to not looking after our planet and what could happen.
I wouldn't say it's a horror but a scary idea that could be a reality.
I think it is a good film. 👍
In the future I am sure this will be a classic, underrated.
