The Diplomat (2023)
Awesome, intelligent show
This is the best Netflix series I have seen for some time! Sometimes it's a little hard to follow, but Rufus Sewell and Keri Russell are both SO great in their portrayals of Hal and Kate. Supporting cast is also excellent, including Michael McKean as POTUS. Very fast moving. One must pay attention to every line to keep up with what is happening in the plot. One could argue that some of the premises are a stretch, but it is so entertaining and well acted and shot that it is a minor issue overall. There is a real cliffhanger ending that makes me hopeful for a second season! If you enjoyed Russell in "The Americans", she is even better here. Highly recommended!
What Lies Below (2020)
Wow - WAY WORSE than I expected!
This movie starts out OK, but descends into complete and utter nonsense about halfway through. Came up on my Netflix "you might want to check out" list / what a waste of 1-1/2 hours. Poorly acted, stupid and amateurish effects. Nothing worth seeing here whatsoever. The bad reviews are right - stay away at all costs.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Walked Out!
Superhero movies CAN be great. Not this one. Only giving this movie an extra star because Robert Downey, Jr. is the only good thing in this movie. This movie is WAY overrated here on IMDb. Probably fine for Marvel fan-millennials, but if you have not seen all the other movies or are over 40, my advice is to sit this one out. No plot, overuse of CGI, etc. etc.
Acceptable Risk (2017)
Wanted to like more than I did....
My wife and I enjoyed Elaine Cassidy in "The Paradise", but I think she is out of her depth in this one. The first couple of episodes were very promising, but by the end of the show, her character was SO strident she just became annoying. The pacing is very uneven. It seemed as though the producers were working with a limited budget. There was very little insight into the "big bad company". Subplots were boring and predictable. I suggest you check out the French show "The Disappearance" (NOT the one with Peter Coyote) if you are looking for something to binge watch!
