Veere Di Wedding (2018)
Don't go by the misleading rating
A refreshing movie with modern take on love and relationships. The movie is filled with funny, emotional and thoughtful moments - not a single dull one. In some ways, you could call it a female centric version of Zindagi na milegi dobara or Dil Chahta hai.
Please ignore most of the bad ratings by chauvinistic men who could not handle this movie, as it did not fit their male regressive vision of female empowerment. If you liked ZNMD or DCH, there is no reason to hate this movie except sexism. Setup in India of 2018, nobody else needs to define fun for women.
A definite must watch amongst the movies in 2018 - so glad that the movie was commercially successful! :)
Judwaa 2 (2017)
Watch with right expectations
One cannot judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. Or, choose a dessert from the restaurant menu and then complain why it does not have salt and pepper. That, is the problem with most of the reviews here. If you don't know what to expect from Judwaa 2, the problem lies with you and not with the movie.
Now, I am all for movies with intellect, social message and creativity - loved the ones like Dhanak, Trapped, Bareilly ki Barfi, Newton, Nil Battey Sannata etc. These movies are a fresh breeze that has rejuvenated Bollywood but one cannot carry the same expectations to Judwaa 2.
Judwaa 2, pretty much delivers what it promises - decent action, mindless comedy, peppy songs, bollywood grooves and mild emotional scenes. Anyone who has directed as much as a street play, would know how difficult it is to make audience laugh. This movies does that well enough for a large target audience. If that was not the case, finer comedies like "Bareilly ki Barfi" or "Dum Laga ke Haisha" would have earned more than one-fifth of Judwaa 2's collections.
Now to prove yourself an intellectual - try finding a cancer cure, build some artificial intelligence programs or write a Booker winning literature piece - don't take the shortcut of hollow and misplaced criticism.
Shikhar (2005)
Too preachy !
Though the intended message delivered by the movie is noble, the actual presentation isn't that good. In the sense, that at times it becomes too didactic. People don't go to theaters for getting lectures on Moral Science. It has to be more subtle. Shahid Kapur is no match for Ajay Devgan. The protagonist and the antagonist sides are not evenly balanced. In fact, Ajay Devgan's character is not jet black, its a shade of grey rather. And one reason why I didn't like this movie is that throughout the movie, I was on the villain's (supposedly) side, who lost in the end ! Also, expectations from John Mathew were sky high after the amazing movie called "Sarfarosh(1999)" by him.
Sarfarosh (1999)
The best part ...
One of the best things about this movie is that it shows the hero taking the right path to revenge. He becomes an IPS Officer and concentrates on eradicating crime. This is in contrast with the regular Bollywood hero, who takes the shorter and easier path justified with tit-for-tat logic to kill a particular villain in the story. Thus, this movie rises above the parochial view of solving problems through one particular revenge. Otherwise also, of late Bollywood heroes are never shown as studious ones because it is only the poor students that most people like to relate to and studious people or anyone can laugh on them as well.
