The Stalker (2020)
Highly entertaining indie horror
"The Stalker" is a thriller, heavily leaning into the worlds of suspense and horror. Yes, it's an indie, but it is very well-made and works within its limitations. The soundtrack is outstanding and the technical quality achieves at a high level. "The Stalker" taps into the slasher sub-genre with a well-executed nod to 80's horror.
Killer Concept (2021)
Give this indie a chance!
This a very well-made indie film. In today's world of glitz and glam and superhero movies, movie watchers seem to have forgotten how to sit back and enjoy a good indie. "Killer Concept" effectively mixes genres, has a solid story and is nicely acted. The technical aspects are top notch for an indie and the movie holds a few surprises.
La Inevitable Muerte del Cangrejo (2022)
Suspense filled, indie thriller
This is a solid indie thriller. Some audiences might be turned off by subtitles, but I always prefer that to dubbing. It is wonderfully shot and the acting is top notch. The story takes viewers on a thrill ride that is triggered for unknown reasons, leading to a suspenseful story and an unexpected climax.
The Berlin Bride (2019)
Tied together in pieces!
This is a wonderfully shot independent gem. It's the type of movie that, once upon a time, could have been a staple of art house cinema, but since that doesn't exist much anymore, we have to seek out and find movies like this where we can. As many other reviewers have pointed out, this is a truly unique and trippy movie with it's approach to storytelling in a near silent film. The movie challenges its viewers to commit to what's on screen and give it their full attention. With the lack of dialogue, we don't get traditional exposition dumps through conversation, instead we must infer much and follow closely to see where the main characters go and how the pieces of a mannequin tie it all together.
AVA: A Twist in the Road (2021)
Solid, independent storytelling on all levels
This is a movie that deals in the realm of the real. It's kind of a coming of age story for someone who's already lived a full life. It deals with love, loss and re-discovery of one's self as Ava has to traverse the trials and tribulations of overcoming loss. Yes, this is an independent movie, but achieves on high levels. It is well-acted, wonderfully shot, and delivers an impactful and meaningful story.
The Electric Man (2022)
Fun indie movie that is very weird
This movie is a bit like a Jay and Silent Bob movie crossing paths with Jacob's Ladder. It's trippy with an unusual story. The acting is really good, especially the main character and his bowling buddy. Not really sure where it is going until it gets there, then it all makes sense!
Pungo: A Witch's Tale (2020)
Give indies a chance!
This is a well-made indie film with some good scares and great atmosphere for an indie. "Pungo: A Witch's Tale" combines elements from "Girl on the Third Floor" and "The Ring." People tend to be rough on indies, expecting the gloss of a 2dri00 million dollar movie. Like many indies, "Pungo" can be a little rough around the edges, but the acting is good, the story is interesting, and the filmmakers clearly put a lot into this project.
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
A Rough and Tumble Fairy Tale Love Story
It's kind of a 'real life' version of Pretty Woman, without Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and the Hollywood fairy tale ending. It's a much more realistic version of the what-if fantasy of the Cinderalla-prostitute-finds-her-sort-of-Prince-Charming scenario Overall, extremely well-acted, nicely shot, and quite enjoyable. If I were going to pick a flaw, t misses the Tristan and Isolde metaphor, but otherwise, great indie flick!.
