Deep South Paranormal (2013)
Duck Dynasty meets Ghost Hunters....
This is show surprised me, I was expecting a carbon copy of Ghost Hunters but actually I really enjoyed it. It had all the usual elements of ghost shows; gadgets, EVP's, spooky images, etc... But what this show brings that the others lack is the eccentric and unique southern personalities (aka Redneck, which as a fellow redneck I appreciate and love) of the team. Hart, the show's "Godfather" is hilarious with his sayings and very intriguing with his Cajun superstitions and his unique way of investigating. Randy, the "Daredevil" has a very 'take-charge' personality and often acts as the antagonist to provoke the spirits to interact with the team and as a rule experiences more paranormal events than the others. Keith, the "Rock Star" brings a down to earth feel to it and his beautiful guitar playing and singing feature in most episodes, his playing reminiscent of Lynard Skynard (not surprising given his appearance). Several times the spirits interact while he plays his guitar and hums. Keith also narrates the show and wrote and performs the theme song. The other members of the team are also good, but slightly forgettable, hence me not having much to say about them. All and all the show comes across as honest and brings a southern charm to the field of paranormal investigation; this is the first such show I've seen that featured mud-bogging, for example. While this new series is only 3 or 4 episodes deep so far, I feel this is going to be one of my favorite SyFy shows. If you get a kick out of Ghost Hunters or Duck Dynasty give Deep South Paranormal a try. You won't be disappointed.
