Just came from this movie , I'll admit, I thought it was an M. Knight adaptation, didn't realize it was his daughter. If I had I probably wouldn't have seen it (thanks for that Sofia Coppola!) but we did, so...
I can't necessarily think of anything good to say about this, but also can't think of anything bad, it was just "meh..."
In a nutshell, the trailer tells u everything u need to know. A group of strangers trapped in a small room inexplicably set in the middle of some dingy woods. The room has one wall that is a two-way mirror and every night the "watchers" come and "watch" (study) a ragtag group of strangers trapped in the room.
During the day, the creatures recede to their underground burrows. You're probably wondering why the people don't just leave then, right? Well, for some reason they never explain, the woods are cursed/enchanted so that once u enter, you can't just walk out Naturally, the newcomer (Fanning) isn't settling for this and plots her escape... SPOILER ALERT!!! STOP READING NOW IF U DONT WANNA KNOW!!!!
So...you're wondering what these things are, yeah? Turns out they're "fairies"!!! Apparently fairies exist and we were once friends (some even lovers) until they weren't and humans drive them into the woods where they use the room to study humans in the hope they will one day escape and be able to impersonate/ infiltrate humanity.
Predictably the old woman of the group is also a fairy in disguise. She's a half breed and as such, possesses the ability to walk in the sunlight.
The group eventually discovers a hidden bunker below the room where they fine instructions left by the room's architect on how to escape. Fast forward, they eventually escape and confront the imposter. She spreads her wings and flies away, then fanning tells her sister how she knows the fairy is still watching her...end scene.
It was a decent enough way to spend a Saturday afternoon but I wouldn't say it's earned a place in my Top 10.
