Gentlemen's Relish (2001)
I'd expected better
It's a very well cast film, though the Scotsman doing quite a poor London accent is annoying.
I expected better quality from the BBC, but this could pass for an ITV production as the standard is quite low.
Saying that, it's still watchable, though don't go out of your way.
Billy Connolly is a good actor, which shows in this and Sarah Lancashire is a class act as ever.
It's meant to be a comedy, though it is very low on laughs. Some of the slapstick is cringeworthy, very poor.
The music is not very good, and generally too loud. This is, again, something I would expect better of from the BBC.
Not Going Out (2006)
Go on far too long
This used to be a very good series.
The first 5 series were really good, if you ignore the bits with the painfully unfunny Miranda Hart whi is the only blip in the casting.
Since then the series has dragged on far too long. The BBC were about to axe Not Going Out but reversed the decision, for some reason.
Five Children and It (1991)
Cheap BBC rubbish
When I was growing up the were a few programs on for children during the day, we had a couple of hours of stuff in the afternoon, after school.
Generally it was OK but they make terrible rubbish like this, and then repeat it for years, probably twice a year.
The production isn't great, the scripts were boring and the acting terrible.
Even at the time it didn't stand up well against the likes of Grange Hill and Byker Grove.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1988)
Hated It!
I am old enough to remember this being shown on the BBC during children's programs on a weekday afternoon, and the repeats of it as well.
It was cheap and nasty then, and it hasn't changed a bit.
The script is clunky and the acting is wooden at best.
Even as a child I couldn't stand this. I always hoped they'd show Grange Hill instead!
