Semi-Final Girls
15 October 2020
I really enjoyed how "The Final Girls" kept true to the slasher genre religiously and yet was able to keep the formula fresh and original with it's narrative twist. Sure they played up the stereotypes, but it was so fun. The acting in the is just the right level of cheesy without going too far and being silly to watch. It is nostalgic and modern with the perfect balance of jumps, gore and laughs, but falls short of keeping true to what the movie spoofs.

Oh the Phalluses and Fallacies

I love horror but I'm not a big gore person, so this movie made me cringe in certain scenes and I had to cover my face, even at a drive in. Despite all the drilling and blood this movie was entertaining with realistic performances. It's like watching it in real life, we know some things, we don't know others. There's a scene with Isabella Gomez in a classroom that made me think of all my friends in college who experienced creeps at a party but couldn't do anything or thought no one would believe them. The meaning of the exclamation point is phallic and foul. And it is bad because meaning's origins in the story is very realistic. The name is kind of confusing because there isn't a stereo typical college "initiation" but they "initiate" in a clever modern way with social media. I loved the meta themes of what an exclamation point is in contrast to (one of) the killers weapon, a drill. I also love that the lead character isn't just a sorority girl stereotype, she's a science student who parties! I say this is a horror movie.

A haunting tale with a real issue we all face

It is a creepy flick. people may not find it to be crazy scary, but it was. I never felt the need to fast forward, which I usually do, but this movie didn't make me feel like it was slow. Each scene plays a part of the story and either reveals, or builds you to put the pieces together while you watch. It doesn't just give the audience what you want right away. The climax was one of the most emotional experiences I've felt in a horror film. The scenes leading to the ending of the movie was probably my favorite part. This is one of the best films I've ever seen in this genre.

What's your favorite scary movie from the 90s

This movie has some incredible acting and writing in it. If you have to leave it because you can't stand gore, well you are in luck, the best acting I have ever seen done by Drew Barrymore starts off the movie in truly fine style. She's amazing. It can't get much better than that. I won't tell you where the movie leads, but I will tell you it was funny, it was thrilling, it was freaky because it wanted to be. It was meta but it had a lot of blood, killer gore, but truth is that it was a dark comedy. It will I watch this one again. I like most of the cast, and the clever lines discussing horror movies actually made me laugh.

Get Out (I) (2017)

Instant classic

Really great movie. It moves along for a relatively long time until you find out that the main character, Chris, an African-American, is in big trouble and is caught up in one of the most diabolical uses of African-Americans. Thank goodness Chris has a friend, Rod, who is in the boss who gets suspicious of what is going on. He is wrong about what is going on but he does not know that and continues to pursue HIS investigation on what he thinks is going on. And WHAT IS GOING ON? Get the movie and find out. Watch this movie if you watch movies multiple times as I do over months and years.. It is really a great movie and you will be surprised near the end. Amazing story. Watch the movie and you will never trust anyone with a teacup and a spoon again!
