What on Earth? (2015)
Contributor Pope
Some of the newer series interesting with geographical features seen form space and explained or theorised.
Why is Nick Pope shown as a Military Analyst in the series?
He was not a military analyst. Mr Pope was the most junior grade manager in the MoD/ civil service. For 3 years he ran the MoD so called 'UFO desk' with a clerk. They collected public inquiries/sightings about UFOs. Any sightings requiring complex & thorough investigation would have been referred upwards to military etc. Mr Pope did not retire from the MoD but left to pursue a career as a UFO pundit with having worked at the MoD as a useful connection.
UFOs: The Lost Evidence (2017)
Contributor Pope
Interesting series, however, emphasis must be made on contributors expertise, position. Nick Pope was the lowest civil service grade manager in the UK Ministry of Defence. For 2-3 years he ran the so called UFO Desk with a junior clerk. The role
entailing the receipt of letters etc from members of the public in the UK, who had reported unidentified sightings in British skies. The Desk did basic investigations & any unexplained sightings would likely be referred upwards.
Mr. Pope is/was portrayed in various UFO documentaries such as Ancient Aliens, et al, that he is either a former Director in the (UK) Ministry of Defence (MoD), Defence Expert, Analyst etc. Most of what Mr. Pope comments on is or was already 'open source' and known by other UFO researchers, or interested members of the public. The fact that he worked for the MoD allowed Mr Pope authenticity to realise the subject can be exploited and a second career as a UFO pundit could be created especially in the U.S.A.
The UFO Desk was subsequently closed as resources were required else where.
