Thinkistan (2019)
Absolutely Fabulous
Thinkistan is a very underrated show according to me. It is funny, gripping and has an exciting storyline. The cast is absolutely bang on! A must watch!
Paatal Lok (2020)
Bye Bye Sacred Games!
Paatal Lok is a roller coaster ride. It is truly the best Indian show online. It boasts of a gripping storyline, exceptional performances by the entire cast and is a treat for the eyes. It is more Indian than any show I have ever seen. EPIC Stuff!
Badhaai ho (2018)
Whaatte Movie!
A total family entertainer, Badhai Ho has something for everyone. It is a taboo subject but the movie progresses maturely and is superbly engaging. Some powerful performances by Giriraj Rao, Neena Gupta, Ayusshman and Sanya Malhotra. A must must must watch!
Comicstaan (2018)
What An Absolute Roller Coaster Ride!
It is the best kind of reality show there is - it is also the best talent hunt i have ever seen. Season 1 was way better than Season 2 and that is because the contestants were far superior I think. But what a great great show!
A special shout out to the best jury that one could have - Kannan, Biswa, Kenny, Tanmay, Kaneez, Zakir and Neeti!
And now for the people who actually made it the best - Ramesh, Rahul Dui, Shanky, Yedi, GuptaJi, Raunak, Samay and Sejal Bhat.
Pushpavalli (2017)
Pushpavalli Is Straight Out Of A Thriller!
The show has everything - its funny, annoying, thrilling, edgy and engaging. It is a story that many might relate to but is also very creepy to be honest. It however loses focus a lot of times and goes a little too far to the extent of it being annoying. I do understand that the idea of a psycho is similar but here the story feels annoying and not the character. In the end the audience is caught between feeling sympathetic for the characters. it sort of justifies creeping someone who doesn't love you back and I don't think that is okay. The storyline is a little stretchy and tends to get boring sometimes.
Naveen Richard is undoubtedly the saving grace and so is Manish Anand. The two bring about the much needed positivity but a special shout out to Naveen for saving the show.
Sushi by Biswa Kalyan Rath (2019)
Predictable & Weak
This show doesn't seem like a Biswa show at all. Its not funny, boring and not engaging at all. A thorough disappointment!
The Family Man (2019)
ETERNAL BLISS!
What can a review have when the show has Manoj Bajpayee as its lead protagonist. He is, by far the most underrated actor we have - leaves me spellbound every time. Atharva, JK, Dhriti and Suchi make for an engaging watch as well with some great work. It was great to see Gul Panag back and how!
The Family Man is indeed a family show that is edgy, gripping, funny at times and superbly crafted. It is one of those shows that will remain with us in our hearts a long time.
Mirzapur (2018)
One Of The Finest Indian Series' You Will Ever See!
I think Mirzapur is as good, if not better, than Sacred Games. Pankaj Tripathi is a magician on screen but that is characteristic of him. Although all of the 6-7 main characters were absolutely fabulous, a special shout out to Vikrant Massey, Divyendu Sharma and Ali Fazal for their impressive performances.
Mirzapur is supremely engaging and unputdownable. It will literally blow you away.
One Mic Stand (2019)
A Great Concept
OMS is a great and fresh concept that is also damn funny. It speaks to the audience by being real and exposing the process that goes on behind the scenes and is a welcome step. The show by Vishal Dadlani was extremely cool for bringing about an uncomfortable topic, something we don't generally engage with. The shows by Taapsee and Richa Chadha were weak as stand up performances while the ones by Bhuvan Bam and Vishal Dadlani were great. Getting in Kamra in the end was really funny (as a set) but very predictable with Shashi Tharoor being the main act. BUT Shashi Tharoor rocked the stage - nailed it completely.
Sapan was great as always but the show lacked punch, in general.
Kanan Gill: Keep It Real (2017)
VERY VERY REAL, KANNAN!
Keep It Real is as real as it gets - it is relatable, extremely funny and very well written. The way he gets everything back at the end is supremely engaging and the Metal Documentary comeback is EPIC!
Biswa Kalyan Rath: Biswa Mast Aadmi (2017)
Whatte Show
BKR (and NO, I don't mean the Bhikhari from the show), is as funny as he is confident and that just shows in his performance. Every joke just lands so perfectly. Extremely relatable content with jokes every two seconds. Great great show!
Newton (2017)
A Masterpiece!
Newton is as timeless as Rajkumar Rao is. Newton is an extremely gripping piece of art that is so socially aware that it gives me goosebumps even when I have seen it so many times now. Pankaj Tripathi weaves magic yet again but well, he is made for it. Newton, is by far, one of the best movies to have come out of India.
Also, Cheers to Mohan Kannan for Panchhi Udd Gaya - it literally took me to the school where it seems to have been shot. Thank You!
Thappad (2020)
A Movie For The Ages!
Thappad is a genuinely a movie for the ages - it has everything to be a timeless classic. It is typical of Anubhav Sinha to make a finely engaging and appealing film but Thappad strikes the Indian audience at the core of our existence. It is a film that encapsulates exactly what is wrong in our gendered experience as a society and gives it to us straight up - no mincing of words.
Taapsee Pannu is by far one of the most underrated actors we have and is a magician on reel. Infact, all the actors of the cast do a great job and engage in a manner that very few films have had the ability to do.
Thappad is a gripping watch that will give you goosebumps. It makes you think if you are part of the brigade that lets patriarchy seep in for convenience and it will, surely, make you act in some degree. Highly Recommended!
Wake N Bake by Rohan Joshi (2020)
Rohan Joshi is an absolute GENIUS!
Before I saw Wake N Bake, I never knew Rohan Joshi was so good. This is by far one of the best stand-up performances I have seen in a while. The content is fresh, very relatable and most importantly, necessary in public discourse. Rohan has also managed to give me some life lessons. I love how self aware he is and how he demolishes his privilege - made me think hard about mine. Thank You Rohan Joshi!
