Miss Multiverse - Australia (2019)
More fun than your average pageant.
This reminded me of watching America's Next Top Model (which used to be a guilty pleasure of mine). I've always liked pageants but enjoyed more getting to see the contestants out of their gowns, perfect hair and makeup and showing more of their true selves. It is fun to see them take on the challenges and have to push themselves. Watching this series is like eating ice cream, just sit back and enjoy!
The Mentor (2020)
Quirky fun
While filmmakers will get more of the references, you don't have to be one to enjoy this Indie film. There are plenty of plot twists and quirky dark humor to keep you watching until the end.
Got Pain? (2019)
Well researched and informative
This documentary is about the information and research, not about being entertained. The point is about overcoming and inspiring hope.
Call for Dreams (2018)
Like being in a dream.
Very surreal mind-bending movie. You will have to read subtitles, but this movie is heavily visual so it is not too distracting. Unique and unsettling, like being in a dream.
What Love Looks Like (2020)
Lighthearted and fun
Fun, lighthearted romantic comedy with five stories of young love. Is easily relatable for the millennial crowd, and a glimpse back to the sweet awkward days of dating for the older crowd. Very cute movie.
Love Is Not Enough (2019)
Modern dating
This relatable romantic drama/comedy gives good insight into the pressures of finding love while establishing a career. The battle of the sexes is played out with some laughs and seriousness as well. Enjoyed seeing Kim Coles again (from way back to the first season of In Living Color).
The Droving (2020)
Good sinister thriller
Set in a beautiful location with a creepy Wicker Man village vibe, the tension and sinister feel slowly builds in this great indie thriller. Also really liked the opening score, it sets the haunting tone of this film well.
Dealer (2018)
In for some laughs
This clever anthology will make you laugh out loud. Fast-paced and funny it is a great "take a break and have some fun" movie.
Purdah (2018)
Inspiring
As a woman in the U.S. I've never had to think about not being able wear want I want, play sports if I want or not and choose whether or not to marry. This touching documentary puts into perspective the struggles of girls and women in other parts of the world.
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
Dysfunctional relationships at its best
I enjoyed this journey into an unusual love story between two very mis-matched dysfunctional people. There are plenty of toxic relationships you see everyday, and wonder why in the world they stay together, this gives a glimpse into their possible inner world.
For the Weekend (2020)
Good tense weekend getaway
For The Weekend has a good mix of tension, some comedy and a mystery that keeps you guessing how it will turn out. Was an entertaining weekend watch.
Into the Void (2019)
Zombie drama/romance
A unique take on the post-apocalyptic genre. Definitely more drama and love story, so not for those looking for zombie gore. Is more about the psychological struggles of the survivors and messy relationship of the main characters.
Distiller (2016)
Campy fun
This reminded me of Full Moon Production type movies (Demonic Toys, Gingerdead Man). If you go in expecting special effects to be a little cheesy, and acting to be campy, than you can just enjoy this fun little comedy horror flick.
