Filling in the Blanks (2023)
Odd point of view
This is a story that might be more interesting if it were told from the bio father's point of view or even the mothers, with data and explanations of why things were so secretive decades ago and why less so nowadays. This seems like a narcissistic piece made by children who are trying to be famous by making fun of their fathers who were "shooting blanks." Honestly how disgusting. These men wanted privacy and it's not respected even remotely. I understand that this involves multiple parties and it happened to people so it's a story from many perspectives... but it's a very odd way to treat their dads. The balance of stories was confusing. Is donor sperm about the dads? Biological or familial? The moms really seem to be left out of everything and the children-especially the sons- really seem to be loving the limelight. I would want to look into whether narcissistic personalities are a common thread genetically in this gene pool. It gave me all kinds of ick. Could've been a nice story about human relationships. What a disappointment.
TMZ Presents: UFO Revolution (2024)
A lot of repeated stuff but some new
I enjoyed this and enjoyed seeing interviews that are longer than what I've seen on social media, for sure. My favorite parts were with Kelly Chase and Michael Masters, and the second half of E3's discussions of interdimensional possibilities, time travel, and dark theories. I do wish it went deeper into that. But introducing the concepts of other things than saucers from another planet is a good start. The fast pace and quick cuts made this feel less credible than it should have. Somewhat sensational like I did expect from TMZ but that's ok. And for that I gave it 7 instead of 8. Keep up this conversation though and thank you Tubi for carrying this.
America's Test Kitchen: The Next Generation (2022)
Just weird but I liked some of the people
I enjoyed the creative challenges but they needed to be more impactful and some of the contestants were really nice and likeable. I applaud the producers for going for diversity, too, but I think that was really a focus of the show that became distracting and dominated the seasons. And they kept people who played to the camera in an odd way rather than keeping people who were really good and coachable for TV. I guess I wanted a certain contestant to go who they kept on too long and he gave me the creeps. And I think they chose undeserving winners. I won't say who, I don't want to give spoilers.
Keep Breathing (2022)
Better than what I heard/expected
I like these kinds of stories- lonely person in the wilderness stuff. It was lacking something and I'm not sure what it was. But I actually came here to say tow things. 1- the title in IMDb is wrong. It says "Breathe." On Netflix it's, "Just Breathe." And 2- I hope to see the lead actor Melissa Barbera in more shows or films. I really liked her.
The Old Man (2022)
Started strong, good acting, story fizzled
The start was interesting and great in the beginning but the second half of the season was a bit dull and unbelievable. I'm going to come back with season two and maybe some of it will start to be interesting again. But I feel like Amy Brenneman's character has no purpose.
Night Sky (2022)
Bring this show back!
I only learned of this show after it had already been canceled. What a shame. I'm dying to know what happens next. I hope Holden Miller decides to share with fans what was going to happen next somehow. A book, a film, or hopefully a second season. This show wasn't promoted very well and Shane on Amazon for that. The story is so beautiful and sad and hopeful and imaginative. Great acting by all.
The Terminal List (2022)
The critics are wrong
Half the time when I was watching the show, I thought to myself, "did he really just do that?" Because so many stories push the idea that the main character is more of a puppy dog than a badass. I think what critics didn't like include a few mentions of Christianity, a starring actor who leans right politically, the concept of war in the Middle East, and a shocking double murder early on. They also don't like revenge stories anymore, it seems. But as a viewer in 2022 all the revenge and action felt cathartic. One critic said all the general public wants after covid is cheerful storylines. False. The only thing I didn't love was finding out the friend was involved- it just didn't make sense. Anyway I'm reading the second book now and it's just as adventurous and I hope they don't cut out the first third which is so interesting and sounds beautiful!
Edit: the second book is phenomenal and I am hoping it gets adapted into a second season including the African storyline!
Someone Great (2019)
More movies like this, please
I laughed and cried and celebrated their friendship with these ladies. Acting was good and no, I don't think it felt forced. I only wish there was more comedy or more backstory on the two friends of the main character. I really like this in the frame of his romcoms are evolving. While it's not for everyone, I really think we need more like this. More romcoms- for this age group and for older, too. (I'm especially needing this as therapy for the current political climate!) PS the scene with singing and dancing to Lizzo was the best- but too short!!!
Northern Rescue: Qué Sera (2019)
Excellent
I started watching this show expecting to see something I've already seen before. But this is a story of its own. Well dove. Sad in parts but didn't make mecweepy.
Northern Rescue: D-U-A-L-I-T-Y (2019)
Still great
Great episode! I'm bingeing this show and love this episode, especially when the dad talks with the lady who he was helping
Northern Rescue (2019)
This show comforts me
You know when you take that first sip of chicken soup and it makes you feel all cozy and protected? Yeah that's this show. I hope they get a season two the acting is great!
