What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (2018)
So brave! So woke! Stunning!
Want to be lectured about Orange Man Bad? Then you've come to the right Star Trek documentary.
I got halfway through but started wondering, "hey, I'm halfway through a documentary on my favorite sci-fi show....but no one's educated me about the Plunderer in Chief! How will I know what to think?"
Luckily, I didn't have to wait much longer. If only nature shows had anti-drumpf montages...
Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (2020)
Awful Character Design and robotic animation
I can't tell you how ugly to look at this movie is...you have to see it for yourself (but don't). This is Angry We're constantly at war DC, not smiling moral Superman leads-the-way DC.
If you like a scowling Supes, minimal story and TONS of blood and guts, this hollowed out tripe is for you.
If you're looking for storytelling, morality and character designs that don't make you wince, look elsewhere...say back to the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited TV series.
Give this a big "miss", it's truly a let-down in every way.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Ultra Violence, Obscenity and a discount production
This show has zero connection to the Trek canon, as most of us would imagine it. It feels like it is written on-the-fly, with little consideration to consistency or world building. But most of all, this is not Trek.
It is ultra-violent. Sadistically so. I am not a fan . Yet they needed to show one of the most vulnerable Voyager characters being brutally tortured, over and over. I never watched those evil torture movies that were popular in the early 00s but I definitely get that vibe from Star Trek Picard.
It's unoriginal. We don't need to see creepy bro/sis action in Star Trek. No one ever woke up one day saying, "hey you know what Star Trek needs? Derivative Game of Thrones reject actors hamming it up with their best/worst Cerci Lannister impersonations".
It's boring. I mean really, really, really boring. It just drones on and on, with actors you don't want to watch in scenes that shouldn't exist.
It's hopeless. and dark. and depressing. It is a repudiation of Star Trek: TNG and I am truly baffled the TNG gang want anything to do with it.
It's badly written and directed. It feels like amateur hour at the community theater. I can't see this having a budget, it all looks and feels cheap as well.
This is not sci-fi. It's woke-fi. Meandering, disjointed, amoral and without purpose.
