Beforeigners (2019)
The BEST Historical Fantasy Sci-Fi Detective Story EVER!!
HBO has Lost their MINDS by Cancelling this brilliant cultural Time-travel Detective story!
Instead, they SHOULD have EXPANDED the Beforeigner Universe (the BU) into a Dozen or more New Series, taking place in Britain, Italy, Spain, Japan, Israel and the U. S., where they show how each nation deals with the issue of Timegrants literally popping up on their shores!
Imagine the expanded long histories of Rome or ancient Greece, with Centurians, Senators and ancient Philosophers' effects on society; or Canaanites, Prophets, Crusaders and Marmluks appearing in present day Israel!
If HBO MAX is too foolish to take advantage of this potential Phenomenon, then let Netflix get richer with an interactive series, including writers and acting talents from all around the globe!
The BU could outsell and replace the failing MCU!!
Wolf Like Me (2022)
Kitty Norville and the Meaningful Coincidence
I don't give out 10's. Not even for GoT season 6.
My 9 rating includes the trailers which give no more hints or spoilers of what's coming than the title itself implied. And this episode dealt respectable enough with some of my own observations of living with Meaningful Co-incidence.
Maybe I added a star because this show was released, coincidentally, as I've nearly finished all 19 books of the Kitty Norville, the Werewolf DJ series by Carrie Vaughn, from whom this series might be inspired..
Wolf Like Me promises to be similarly introspective about permitting our inner monsters to be worthy of love. "It depends on which one you feed."
I can't wait for the next 3 episodes, and hopefully, season 2. I hope I can rate it all as highly as I admire this episode.
And kudos to Josh, who until WLM, I've never previously seen as a serious actor.
Chapelwaite: The Keeper (2021)
Worst Story Ending EVER.
Has there EVER been a Stupider ending to a vampire tale? Don't you hate when a character says "It's the Only Way..?" And you can think of at LEAST a Dozen, smarter, less suicidal acts? It makes you lose any respect for the character you may have had, plus any for the supporting characters who allow him to carry on with an insane, unexplained decision.
The series itself was a solid 8 until this Ridiculous Mistake of an ending, which ruins the entire 10 episodes and makes one wish they had never wasted 10 whole hours of their lives.
Up until the writers committed suicide for his character, Adrian Brody did a fine enough job, painfully whispering his way through his lines of acting like a miserable wretch, which I assume was the idea.
The beginning of the series was applaudable, but the End Justifies being Mean.
