Love, Simon (2018)
A film full of heart and love.
Love, Simon is one of the greatest films I've seen. It's one of the only films my friend group and I went out to see and all thoroughly enjoyed. It's revolutionary, in its portrayal of Simon Spier, the titular character who is gay. This representation felt so good because the film is so good!
This film has a great script, a great cast, a fitting score and it sticks to the true nature of the book by Becky Albertalli. That everybody deserves a love story.
This film made me cry on the first watch, and made me cry again when I bought it on DVD to watch. This is truly an LGBT film masterpiece. Please watch it and give it the attention it deserves!!
Princess Cyd (2017)
This film makes you say wow and not in a good way.
Wow. Where to begin with Princess Cyd? I'll start with how pretentious it is. It is yet again another artsy LGBT film which "did well" yet I found amazingly dull and absent of life. I was bored out of my mind watching this film, and had to force myself to watch the last 30 minutes. The characters won't mean anything to you because you won't grow attached in any way possible. In fact, I found Cyd quite annoying. I can't even remember the other girls name, she was so drab. In fact, I cannot remember any of the characters names except the titular Cyd. (Only because she's in the title mind you)
It's just drivel, and the acting is okay I guess. The cinematography is nice but doesn't make up for what the script and overall storyline lacks.
I don't think I'd be watching this one again.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
Boringly mundane.
I will start off by saying the one star is purely for the cinematography. It's quite visually pleasing (and the setting is too) but that doesn't make up for what this film lacks in depth, storyline and being a total waste of time. This film looks pretty but is so boring you'll be constantly checking the time. YES, it won an Oscar, YES it's artsy. But neither of those mean it's good. There are way better films out there with an actual narrative worth watching, to keep you actually entertained. Not only is the basis of the story boring, but I'm also disappointed. I love LGBT films, but this just... Felt wrong. Just like Blue Is The Warmest Colour, just off. I turned it off with over 30 minutes left to stop myself from wasting anymore time. Watching it for Timothee? Literally watch any other film he's in. Watching it for the gay storyline? You're better off with Brokeback Mountain.
