A good afternoon movie
11 July 2007
Chazz Palmintari delivers a mostly well thought out plot with a great cast. The story within a story relationship familiarizes characters without their knowledge. Unexpected bits of steamy sexuality. (with a disappointing glimpse into Penelope Cruz's stiff,rhythm-less samba moves) He throws in some surreal experiences that break the stream of sentiments that sort of bombard you in the first half-hour. The feeling of Christmas is real since it was filmed in the actual winter season. I was impressed with the move to a "feeling" part by Paul Walker, I thought his character far from followed suit of the well-to-do thoughtless hunk/hero that he was beginning to be type cast as. Although there are some plot holes, I thought the overall idea behind it was verging on original and the kind of script that makes it a movie to enjoy with you mother.

See it twice!

Hilarious! this thoughtful comedy is just the kind of viewing people should be enjoying! The characters branch off from reality just enough hold our interest. An entirely star studded cast lends itself charmingly to the outrageous plot. Actors like Mark Ruffalo and Sam Rockwell seem so fresh as relatively unknown actors at the time. Fabulous writing, a unique blend of spoofing, and dialect are the root of all hilarity in this movie. The Soundtrack is also a winner featuring Al Green and other great artists. Paul Giamatti is wonderfully cast as sidekick/butt-kiss to Bernie Gale, the Jewish mafioso. (Bernie Gale played by Michael Lerner.) As a couple of kids refining their talent, Sam Rockwell & Steve Zahn Get mixed up with unlikely characters and are suddenly forced initiate an attempt to save their lives, earning bounty from local safes. Harvey Fierstein shows off his unique ability to earn your undivided attention through detailed storytelling. Watch it twice to really hear all the inflections and murmurs that will send you rolling. This movie is a sure-fire way to enjoy a weeknight date. "Safe Men" has yet to be replaced as my all out best comedy, neglectfully underrated!

Funny, immature comedy.

Ellen DeGeneres is always funny, but Blythe Danner plays Kate Capshaw's mother in this film...Blythe Danner is only 10 years older than Kate Capshaw.. Don't flatter yourself Kate, just because your husband is a billionaire, doesn't mean you'll never age. In a out east way this movie has some charm. If it weren't for the clear gay support of the film, you'd think the homosexual references were a little much. The script has "Sundance" written all over it, but the filming is a weak attempt. If you're ready for a movie that's purely entertaining with no actual meaning or moral point, A.K.A a date movie, this is it.

"The Love letter" is simple and not hardly as mysterious as it would aim to be.
