Sparkle (2012)
Beautiful Movie and Tribute to "The Voice"
I wanted to see this movie because I lived in Detroit my entire childhood and love Whitney Houston. Even though there are a few inconsistencies, it was a lovely tribute. The line that really sticks out to me was when Whitney/Emma says, "was my life not enough of a cautionary tale for you," after she learns that her daughters are sneaking out at night to perform. Given the fact that Whitney passed away shortly after the film. It really holds near and dear to my heart.
Comparing it to the original 1976 movie, I think this version is much better. I like the fact that the three sisters were aged to all be adults, taking away the "ick factor" that Irene Cara was only 15 in the original and Jordin Sparks was aged to 19. I like the fact that Tammy/Sister wasn't killed off like she was in the original.
Speaking of Tammy/Sister, the lovely Carmen Ejogo absolutely steals the show in the remake. Her beauty and charisma, along with her amazing voice, makes her character much more likeable than the original.
R. I. P. Whitney Houston. We will always love you!
A Noble Lie: Oklahoma City 1995 (2011)
Makes you think...
I would definitely recommend this documentary, especially for people who enjoy true crime and conspiracy theories. It starts out slow, but by the end of the documentary, it really makes you think about a number of inconsistencies that were reported by the government.
