Space: 1999: Guardian of Piri (1975)

The crew of moon base alpha come across a planet but when they try and get the computer to give them a full report on the planet the data is conflicted, they land on planet PIRI and discover that it is controlled by a computer system that has taken control of the computer systems on Moonbase Alpha and has the ability to freeze time and give the crew of Alpha total bliss and happiness, but this will mean evacuating the base and lead to the crews eventual death, the only member who is unaffected is Cmdr. John Koenig (Martin Landau) who figures out that it is pain that breaks the hold that the PIRI guardian has on his people and he with the help of Dr. Helena Russell (Barbara Bain) is able to destroy the guardian and return his people to Moonbase Alpha. In this story Catherine Schell plays Servant of the Guardian she will become a series regular called MAYA in series 2 of Space 1999.

The crew of Moonbase Alpha detect an Asteroid that is going to pass close to the Moonbase, the Asteroid changes course and heads straight for the Moonbase then at the last minute swerves away from the base and into space then explodes, the crew send up an eagle and discover that they are heading towards a black sun (black hole), the crew deploy a forcefield in hopes that it will protect the base from the black sun and use an eagle as a life boat to send 6 crew to safety. The moon passes into the black sun where Prof. Victor Bergman (Barry Morse) & Cmdr. John Koenig (Martin Landau) meet with the force of the universe which sends the moon through to the other side of the universe and brings the eagle life boat through with them returning them all to safety.

The crew of Moonbase Alpha find a 20 mile long ship (daria) in space and that it is sending out a call for help, the crew send out an Eagle to aid the ship and are soon split up on-board the massive ship. Cmdr. John Koenig (Martin Landau) meets with the leaders of the ship and uncover that the ship is carrying the last of there species and was damaged 800 years in the past when its nuclear reactors exploded, that the ship is on route to a new planet and that they would like the Moonbase crew to join them. Prof. Victor Bergman (Barry Morse) uncovers that the 14 surviving Darians have been exploiting the surviving people on the ship, using them as food, and organ replacement's and that they have the same in mind for the Moonbase crew, with the help of the Moonbase crew the survivors take over the ship and teach them to live together.

The crew of Moonbase Alpha are contact by the leader of the planet Ultima Thuly Dr. Cabot Rowland (Brian Blessed) the planet is an ice world and the people on the planet are Humans who crashed on the planet from the Uranus Expiditon launched from earth in 1986, Soon the crew discover that the people on the planet are immortal and have living on that planet for 884 years in that time they have been doing experiments on members of there party and now want to experiment on members of the Alpha crew, the experiment have left the Ultima Thuly members with brain damage, but Dr Rowland offers the Alpha crew the chance to join the Ultima Thuly members to find the secret of immortality and then leave there planet with this knowledge and Dr. Rowland decides to offer this to all the member of Moonbase Alpha but when he tries to leave the planet he ages to death in seconds.

An asteroid is heading straight for Moonbase Alpha so the crew use Nuclear bomb to destroy the asteroid but Alan Carter (Nick Tate) one of the crew is to close to the explosion and is knocked out, and there is a radiation cloud surrounding Alpha which is stopping then finding eagle one on the scanners so Cmdr. John Koenig (Martin Landau) goes to find him is contacted by the voice of Arra (Margaret Leighton) directing him to Alan's location and in-doing so discovers that the moon is on a direct course with the planet Ithiria. The Crew of Alpha decide to use nuclear bombs to alter the course of the moon and planet but Cmdr. Koenig goes to the planet and meets Arra to discover that he, the moon and the planet have a destiny to meet and in doing so will allow the planet and all its inhabitant to evolve into a new spiritual life form but the crew are not willing to risk it and try to detonate the bombs but Alan and Koenig stop them just in time.

An alien arrive's on Moonbase Alpha and merge's with one of the technical crew Anton Zoref (Ian McShane), the new life form is after energy in any form and is not fussy where it gets it, it drains heat from other crew, use's tanning lamps for heat and light, the only way to slow him down is to switch all power system on Moonbase Alpha off and keep Anton away from any form of energy, when the Alpha crew try and stop him with a laser blast he absorbs the energy and with his new power is able to enter one of Moonbase Alphas reactors which causes it to explode destroying Anton, but releasing the life form back into space.

The store is told in the form of a log from Dr. Helena Russell (Barbara Bain). One of the crew Tony Cellini (Gianni Garko) has a nightmare about a creature he face 4 years before when on a mission to a new planet in earth solar system discovered by Prof. Victor Bergman (Barry Morse) called planet ultra, Both John Koenig and Tony Cellini worked on the probe and Tony Cellini ended up being in command of the probe, the probe was launched in 1996 with 4 crew. When the probe arrived at Ultra they find a planet similar to earth, as the probe travels round the planet all contact is lost. Behind the planet ultra they discover a graveyard of ships all with no life signs. They dock with one of the ships but when they open the airlock an alien enters the ship and starts to attack the crew, the only crew member to survive is Tony Cellini who manages to return to Moonbase Alpha, but people doubt his story including Dr. Helena Russell. Cmdr. John Koenig is the only person that believes Tonys story. Tony, John and Victor are all relieved of duty and Tony is sent for mental supervision, by 1999 all the crew were back on Moonbase Alpha when the base uncovers a grave yard of ships floating in the moons path, they scan the ships and find the ultra probe there so go over to search it and discover Tony's monster, Tony sacrifices his life and finds that the only way to harm it is to use a tomahawk and destroy its glowing eye which Cmdr. John Koenig does and kills the creature.

Space: 1999: Voyager's Return (1975)

The crew of Moonbase Alpha discover an object heading toward them and soon discover that it is the probe (voyager 1) launched from earth and and using a new dangerous drive system the qweller drive, the qweller drive failed with the voyager 2 probe and killed many people 15 years earlier. Cmdr. John Koenig (Martin Landau) decides that they will try and save the probe and get the information that it Carry's only to discover that one of the crew on-board Moonbase Alpha is the designer of the qweller drive system Dr. Ernst Linden (Jeremy Kemp) he saves the probe and lands it on Moonbase Alpha only to discover that the probe is being followed by 3 warships intent on destroying the probe, the moon base and the earth in retaliation for 2 planet that have been destroyed by the drive system of the voyage 2 probe, this race are not willing to be reasoned with and are intent on destroying the moon base so Dr. Ernst Linden goes inside the probe and launches the ship manually then uses the drive to destroy the warships and himself. They do manage to salvage the information from the voyager 2.

The crew of Moonbase Alpha are attacked by alien's as they approach a planet and the base is so badly damaged that it can longer support life which is going to force the crew to evacuate to the planet, when Cmdr. John Koenig (Martin Landau) & Dr. Helena Russell (Barbara Bain) go to the planet to discuss there situation with the alien's they discover that the alien's have developed mind control ability's and that it is the Alpha crew's own fear's that are damaging the moon base and killed so many of the crew. The alien's then release control of Cmdr. John Koenig's & Dr. Helena Russell's mind's which allow's them to realise that the alien's have shown them what will happen if they attack the ship's and so are able to halt the first attack and save the base and all life's but the alien's tell them that they are not allowed to land on the planet.

The first child is born on Moonbase Alpha but soon begins to grow at a fast rate, but appears to be a deaf mute 5 years old. The crew of Moonbase Alpha accept this new 5 years old child and start to show him and teach him new things. Soon several large ships arrive and Jacky the 5 year old child becomes a fully grown adult who is an alien and on Moonbase alpha to take over the body's of the crew with his own people, the crew is powerless against these aliens and start to be killed off when another ship arrives from the alien race and destroys the first renegade ships then removes the aliens from the base and returning every body to the way they were. This story reminds me in part to a Star Trek The Next Generation story called "THE CHILD" season 2.

Set in the year 1999 Commander John Koenig (Martin Landau) arrives on Moonbase Alpha to uncover the reasons why members of crew and meta prob astronaut's are falling ill and to get the Meta probe launched on schedule. Soon he discover's that it's magnetic radiation from the Nuclear waste dump's that is causing brain damage on the effected crew and that the waste dump's are about to explode, the larger waste dump explode's on the dark side of the moon and force's the moon out of earth's orbit and into space starting it's journey. The crew of Moonbase Alpha are now looking for a new home. The meta probe is destroyed by the explosion.
