Breeders (2020)
Bloody brilliant
I wasn't expecting much from the show and I was truly surprised to find that this is one of the best shows I've seen in years! It's funny, it's fresh, it's dramatic, it shows life as it is. All the actors have done an amazing job, the chemistry between the main cast is sparkling! "Breeders" is not solely about parenting, it digs deeper and explores so many different aspects of life. The writing is exquisite, the acting even more so. This is a comedy, but I found myself crying real tears in almost every episode. I am a new mom, but I still remember what it's like to be a teenager, so this show resonates with me a lot. It's a wonderful masterpiece made with love and good humour. Watch it and share it with the world - this show deserves it.
Fleabag (2016)
How does this get 10/10?..
I started watching after all the hype about season 2 and the "sexy priest". I am utterly disappointed. I wonder what kind of backgrounds do people who rate it 10/10 come from?.. How is "Fleabag" funny? The main character is vulgar, self-absorbed nymphomaniac. I'm not a prude, but the way she treats her body and lets literally anyone in is quite disturbing. What's funny about that? Her unhealthy addiction to sex caused her best friend's death - what can possibly be more horrible? All the members of Fleabag's family are dysfunctional and unlikable human beings. What's so genius and fresh about this "comedy"? I don't feel anything but cringe while watching it. 4 points for Olivia Colman and Andrew Scott. They are darling.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
A little less conversation, a little more action
Well, this one was definitely better than the previous two, BUT... I can't help it. Something's wrong, something's missing. It is was too simple, too straightforward. Strangely enough first 30 seconds of this episode were much more dynamic and interesting that two previous episodes combined. I mean, that TENSION, that FEAR. But then... After first 40 minutes I was like "meh". The writing was poor again. I mean, we wasted the whole Dothraki army so quickly, just like that?.. A whole lot of well-trained scary horseriders destryoed within seconds?.. As cliche as it sounds, I couldn't believe my eyes. The sequences of massacre combined with complete silence and emptiness of the insights of the castle looked odd. Where is everyone? Why is it so quiet inside? The pace of whitewalkers is irrational - they're extremely fast in an open field and walk like zombies inside. If this episode was written by G.R.Martin we would expect the deaths of at least three major characters. But no, here we get away with the death of "just" four of the "background main cast". I weep for house Mormont... My heart breaks for Theon. But let's be honest - we could spare them. Good riddance. And this is exactly why I'm so uneasy about this episode - yes, it was scary, but we all knew it was gonna end well - we have three more episodes after all. I honestly thought that the Night King will be killed by a combined effort of the major characters, but the writers insisted that he must be killed by just one. I mean, yeah, Arya is cool, but guys, really?.. Really?.. And then we get the teaser to episode 4, where this very Arya kisses someone (supposedly her new found love Gendry). I mean, what kind of character breaker is that? Arya was never like that - she insisted to be a warrior, so since when does she go around kissing guys?.. After she's been through hell and back?..
The huge plus of this episode were the crypt lovebirds Sansa and Tyrion. I expected a kiss really. This would be a very season 8 thing. Seriously, I loved them this episode. I also somehow loved the Grey Worm - great acting there from Jacob Anderson aka Raleigh Ritchie. Never had a soft spot for him, but this time he was the only one who made me cry. And I expected to cry a lot (I didn't).
Is the dragon dead? I didn't get that part.
What's the point of Bran anyway? What is he doing?
Seeing the promo for episode 4 was a little sad. Everyone is clean again, everyone is toasting Dany, we hear the talks of the new battle... Guys, you all need therapy sessions, you've just been through hell, stop with that Iron Throne nonsense and get some sleep!
I love you, Game of Thrones. I just don't like you anymore.
Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2019)
I'd say it's a 6
First of - how out of character was Arya this episode? This came out of nowhere and was even odder than the dragon flight in S08E01. Also - weren't there too many campfire scenes?.. I know we're supposed to prepare for a great battle, but weren't we doing it for the most part of season 7 and S08E01? And more hints from the writers- I sense that the greatest battle would still be the one for the Iron Throne. The white walkers will be dealt with in 1 or 2 episodes, and then we will see how Daenerys would (or wouldn't) claim the throne.
So far my favorite character is Sansa. She's being rational and cold - just as she should.
Four episodes left... And I'm still anticipating the action.
The Brienne part was adorable though. No wonder the episode's title is somewhat dedicated to her
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
Bittersweet disappointment
This was, undoubtedly, the most boring Game of Thrones episode I have ever seen. This show has once put itself on a very high level of quality, but since season 7 this quality is drastically dropping down. The highly anticipated first episode of the last season turned out to be a poorly written parody of what GoT used to be. Everyone met everyone, Winterfell is suddenly the center of the universe, gathering absolutely all major characters except for Queen Cercei (because she's BAD and those at Winterfell are GOOD). The quantity of smirks from female characters is overwhelming. Daenerys is extra proud of being "the Mother of Dragons" and also turns into a silly teenage girl while looking at Jon Snow (absolutely no chemistry between the two whatsoever). What kind of dialogue is this: "I don't know how to ride a dragon" - "Nobody does - until they ride a dragon ;) ;) :)". What was that about and why?..
The dialogues look more like a combination of one-liners. Everyone tries too hard, and that looks pathetic. Showing emotions becomes something alien - Arya stays absolutely calm while meeting Jon, Gendry or the Hound. You haven't seen each other for 64 years - show a little emotion! Same goes to poor old Bran Stark - the guy just weirdly sits there, ignored by everyone.
The writers are dropping hints, but god knows if those hints are real. Sansa and Arya keep reminding Jon that he's a Stark - what's gonna happen to them when they find out that he is in fact a Targaryen? Same goes to Daenerys - is she capable of killing her beloved nephew in case he interferes into her plans to claim the throne?
We know for sure that Cercei is pregnant, We suspect that Daenerys is pregnant too. However, they're both happily unmarried - does this mean that we're gonna welcome two more bastards to the show?
The wonderful exclamation "he's got blue eyes!" is somewhat weird since the White Walkers all have, umm, blue eyes. But okay, this was supposed to be fun. As was the pox reference. As was "the only rich girl you know" reference.
And why do we keep getting those repetitions? Was it just me or did everyone get the "Ygritte in the cave" vibe when Daenerys said that they could stay near the waterfall for a thousand years? Ant this "smartest person I know" thing - why put the same words into different characters mouths?
I'm happy GoT is back. We all need closure to this story. Let's just hope this closure will be as amazing as the first 6 seasons of the show.
