Civil War (2024)
I can suspend disbelief. Except....
Except for the press. I can believe California and Texas can get together for a movie. I know Americans are already divided. Th press is the reason we are divided.
Going back all the way to the 90's the press has been dividing us and it is the reason we are all here now. Doesn't matter the source, news is presented as political and us vs. Them.
This movie tries to present the press as impartial and just trying to present what is happening and I just don't buy it. It ruins the film for me.
As for the film itself, it is very slow, but I don't see how it could be presented otherwise. I don't really feel anything for the main characters. When the culmination shot happened, it elicited no emotional response. I'm not sure if that was the intent, but that's what happened.
I don't feel like I wasted 2 hours but I do feel like I wasted $25 buying this on Amazon. I will probably never watch this again.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016)
Its an entertaining movie
I spent the majority of my adult life at war and in these two theaters (Iraq and Afghanistan) and while I appreciate the point of view of the press, i must saybtheir importance is 100% not a factor and they are the most worthless people on the planet.
They are also not very smart and and the meme goes: they have no idea they are dumb. When they are killed in country, no one cares. It is directly proportional to their worth.
The movie is very entertaining. Some of the video almost looks like Kabul. Tina Fey is quite beautiful and in my opinion more attractive than Margot Robbie.
All of the camps i lived had their own power generation so the lights out never happened. Well, not like portrayed here.
What i mean is, if you can take the reality out of it, it is a very good movie.
Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004)
Now i don't like them
All this did was to cement some already bad feeling toward the band. Jason left. Kirk seems like an ok guy. But James and Lars are a coupke of dudes i do not think i would have anything to do with in real life.
I don't think they are putting on an act. They are both a couple of unlikable dudes. Musically i have not enjoyed them since 1991. This started 10 years after that and tomorrow is 2023.
They are riding my opinion of them from 30 plus years ago. Rewatching this again on the last day of 2022 shows me they are past their prime years of writing.
I am sure they are still awesome performers and if they came nearby i would spend a bunch of cash to see them. I just would be familiar with anything made past this documentary.
