The Hired Heart (1997)
Schmaltzy, in a nice way.
You can find lots of play-by-play reviews of this made-for-tv movie. You don't need another.
Basically, this is a sweet Hallmark Channel style movie. Albeit, an after-hours/late-night, adult Hallmark movie.
Still, it is a nice, sweet, hero-tale which shouldn't make the teeth ache. And has a few good smile causing scenes.
Maaginen kristalli (2011)
Nice enough movie
Seems a nice enough, mythologic flick.
Unfortunately, the mythology of my upbringing doesn't involve the myths of Finland.
So, I am left to wonder of their stories, and watch this story as a Foreign Film. Which for me, it is.
Still, it is a Hero Tale. Something that seems common and transcends cultural boundaries. Initially, the animation seemed simple; simplistic would be a better term. Especially for one raised on the Hanna-Barbera offerings of the '60s and '70s.
I recommend Youse sit back and enjoy a fun story for a Winter's night.
Scooby-Doo (2002)
OwyWowyWoooo!
The plot... Mostly what you'd expect, except it isn't. The characters... Mostly what you'd expect, except they aren't.
It seems that those that made this movie were left alone as six year olds, and the only choice they had was Scooby Doo. So now we all should suffer for their angst.
This is not a good movie, it's a pathetic movie. What's even worse... Scooby-Doo 2 is already in production. Ah, the egotistical children of unwed dogs.
Special Unit 2 (2001)
Come On People
While fun, this is not a new idea. What? no one remembers Kolchak - Night Stalker? A show with the plot of, to quote IMDB, "A newspaper reporter investigates strange supernatural occurrences in Chicago." No beautiful, fab-and-groovy police, no seriously brassy dame, but yes, it's been done before. Otherwise, S.U. 2 is quite nicely done. It's hip, it's clever, at times witty and funny; all-in-all quite amusing. Now... let's see if they can match the Rak Shasa.
