Sleepers (1996)
A brilliant view into the harsh realities of life.
5 February 2001
Sleepers is one film that I can watch over and over again. Although it tackles a difficult, and often ignored subject, the film is produced with complete good taste, and the acting is of a very high standard.

The leading boys are brilliant and seem to be perfect for their intended roles. The horrific experiences that they encounter are supurbly acted, and their terror is expressed in such a realistic way. The prison guards are harsh and incredibly violent and abusive towards the boys, but nevertheless play their characters to a very high standard.

This film can be seen as disturbing, whether it is based on real life or not, but that is no reason as to why it shouldn't be viewed.

Paperhouse (1988)
A dark and artistic piece of film.
16 July 2000
Paperhouse is a unique film which captures the imagination of an eleven year old girl through her continuing nightmares. Throughout the movie, the scenes are carefully thought out and the production of the 'dream house' is of superb quality. The lifeless pencil drawings of Anna's are sprung into life with an obvious amount of realism.

The horror within the film can be established during the scenes in which Anna and her father meet. The darkness of the sky during the nightmare as well as the music, come together to create a chilling atmosphere. This film should be watched.
