Jan-Gel, the Beast from the East (1999)
Maybe not more horrifying than Frankenstein...but funnier!
Wow...
What a ... film.
Actually, it's not even that. It was filmed on home video equipment, making it technically a video.
Regardless, it was hilarious (intentional or otherwise) and certainly worth watching if you feel like crying.
The film is basically a homage to Ed Wood film-making and suitably created by Ed Wood Alumni Conrad Brooks. He certainly shines like a gem in this flick of dull rocks.
A must-see? No... Unless you want a film.. no, video.. harking back to the wonderful and innocent days of low-budget Z grade movies.
The Man Upstairs (1992)
She's still got it!
At 85 years of age in this film, Katharine Hepburn does a wonderful job. It is inspiring and amazing to see her perform again, and so well. The entire cast was equally as good. The film is certainly more drama than comedy and against what Leonard Maltin said is definately not "light-weight" It is a poignant film with a sense of humour brushed over it, but certainly not a focal point. Hepburn can shine in any film, and this one was certainly true to this statement. The role of was well-suited to her and she and the rest of the cast did a wonderful job. And to think, it was filmed so close to my home!
Chain Lightning (1950)
Formulaic...BUT....It is Bogie....
This was an interesting film, especially to those with a keen interest on the early development of Jet technology. It was predictable, but had its moments. I loved it, but I love ALL things Bogart. Julie Bishop was good as the girl of Bogarts interests and a few tense moments in the air and on the ground hold your interest to the end.
The Wagons Roll at Night (1941)
An interesting setting, unlike the standard Bogie Fare...
I liked this film. While a little predictable and such, it did offer Bogart and Sylvia Sidney, both of whom I admire a great deal. The scenes with the tigers were interesting. The film, while mostly melodramatic, was humourous in some portions. As a die hard Bogie fan, I can't say as to whether or not others would like this though. I am a tainted Bogie fan, and so my opinion is always slanted...
