13 Minutes (2021)
Not a masterpiece, but not THAT bad as some commenters make it to be.
The movie starts presenting normal people, living the normal life of inhabitants of the areas in the US where tornadoes can come and change your present and future. We learn about several characters, their stories, interactions, and then a tornado comes. This doesn't have scenes inside the storm like Twister, but close enough to give us an idea of how it is to be beating up by a tornado.
Why the very low ratings here? Because some people think problems like intolerance, lgbt issues, human rights, etc should be made political and not shown in a movie with another point of view from theirs. This page fell into some right-wing webpage and the flock came diligently to berate the movie and give it ridiculous low ratings, just that. Look at the clicks in "was this review helpful", they are joyfully yessing at each other. Pathetic.
If you come from another country with a broader perspective of life, do yourself a favor and watch the movie just expecting to learn about some personal stories and drama, with a big devastating storm in the middle, and you'll find it good enough to entertain you for an hour and a half. Not a masterpiece, but not as bad a some commenters make it to be.
The Sinner: Part VIII (2020)
Oh, no.
Matt Bomer is excellent. That's the 1 star, the rest it's a zero.
The story became very interesting... up to some point. The 'bad guy' obviously needed help, and the 'good guy' realized that but instead he cornered him and betrayed him. From then on I just really wanted Jamie to shoot anybody he wanted to and get away with it.
I love Bomer and I began the series on this season because I saw he was in it. I always liked Bill Pullman a lot, but I'm not gonna bother to watch the other seasons / parts. This end killed all for me.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Unnecessary scenes of torture.
I have no idea why the numerous 9 and 10 stars ratings.
I like series of superheroes and I get that scenes of violence and dead bodies and whatever will come with them. But I'm in the 4rth episode and it's enough. The story and mystery waiting to be resolved is not strong enough to make keep watching and no, fast forwarding every time there's a scene of someone being tortured in close up and detail is not the solution. I haven't seen not even some humor to lighten up a bit. It's really depressing overall; their past, their present, the apparent future. Maybe 2020 is not the best year to begin watching this? Bye bye.
I don't understand why the hate to Ellen Page either. Do people know that it's the role she was given? She's acting very well with the character she has to portray.
I'll read some synopsys and that's all.
Mental: Book of Judges (2009)
Great story; just enjoy it, and ignore the last scene.
I'm intrigued about mental diseases. So I began to watch this series.
This is the second episode for me, and I tried to concentrate in the story, rather in the similarities with another series (i.e., the relationship between Vogler /Chase in House M.D., and Bell /Suárez here), the little bias (the doctor who committed fraud in his resume is a Latin, oh!), and the eternal and uncomfortable smile of Dr. Gallagher. But, what the heck, he's so handsome I can forgive him. Therefore, I considered the story about the patient, Gideon Graham (the late David Carradine), really interesting. He and his wife were struck by a lightning when he took her to a cliff in the middle of a storm. She died, and he's in a catatonic condition since then. What happens with his mind? Where is he? They tried everything, without results, and now a different approach is in consideration: TMS therapy. Graham have some strange physical reactions after that, and Gallagher is really digging into his mind, convinced that he reached somewhere: is Graham reluctant to face the world? Is he really there, but hiding? The images and scenes of his inner world are great. And the mystery and the solution unravels in an interesting way. Just forget the last scene, when the good looking doctor gets the beautiful, sensual, intelligent and famous model patient's daughter. Why??? I could buy all the story, but, why this??? Sounded like an old series from the 80s, when good boy gets the good girl, oh my.
