Hitchcock's Confession: A Look at 'I Confess' (2004)
Important to have more details on I Confess
I CONFESS deserves more attention and details,in the internet pages, considering its plot, the influence of Catholicism and production difficulties. Critics have, already, wrote about the many problems faced by Alfred Hitchcock. The film was badly received when launched,(1953)with very few exceptions.Today is considered an excellent movie, for its many cinematic qualities. The New York Museum of Modern Art paid an homage to AH, organizing a good exposition about his life and work. But it was in Canada that we could see an extraordinary exhibition,at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts:HITCHCOCK AND ART-FATAL COINCIDENCES. (November 2000 to March 2001)A 500 page book was published with essays by specialists and illustrated with reproductions of art works and photos related to Hitchcock"s films.By all means a must for those who admire and respect the master of suspense. And,as a Brazilian movie critic wrote:
he "was an ironic philosopher of the human condition, sensitive to what has the tragic in this adventure".Luiz Antonio Macedo
Gangster No. 1 (2000)
Words+violence
Too much dialog and violence, are on the negative side, but the pace is good and the performances superb. Not enough to make it an excellent movie. Besides that, the script pretending to be deep, becomes dark and bloody, what confuses the viewer. Some people say that is to blur the water to look like profound. In a way I think this is the case of GANGSTER #1.The DVD copy I have rent, here in São Paulo,Brazil, has no nudity,as noted by MPAA.Perhaps this explains the difference in the running time of the film, registered in the countries Certification: Argentina,103 minutes and at the UK,105 minutes.By the way,the picture we are talking about, was not shown in any Brazilian theater, but is available in DVD,in few places only.
