The To Do List (2013)
Yes it's raunchy, but man is it boring!
I wanted to like this movie, but it was so boring. The title sequence was great and I thought that this might be a raunchier version of Adventureland, but like I said it was just boring. The dialog was flat, the acting was uninspired, and the story was predictable.
This movie wanted to be Fast Times or Dazed and Confused, but it just came off as pretentious. It just seemed like this movie was trying way too hard to be edgy. There were a couple of laughs, but I ended up just wanting the movie to be over quickly. Truth be told, it took me two tries to finish it because it just didn't hold my attention.
I don't have much to say about this movie except that once the shock factor wears off, it's just a below average teen sex farce. This was a waste of lots of talented actors. My advice, skip it!
The Tragedy of Macbeth (1971)
One of the Better Presentations of Macbeth
Gloomy, maybe. Evil, definitely. One heck of a film, positively! Polanski has captured the evil heart of Shakespeare's tragedy. Driven by a great portrayal of Lady Macbeth, this film starts out on a gloomy beach under a foreboding sky that set the mood for one of the darkest adaptations of Macbeth I have ever seen. Polanski holds nothing back and gives you a bloody and extremely evil Macbeth, closer to the play I read as a high school student. Most productions of Macbeth are cheap diluted versions of Shakespeare's original visions. The acting is great in its understatement. Technically the film is well done and does not rely on huge sets or lavish production value. This film is still a distant second to Kurisowa's "Throne Of Blood" but is still worth seeing if you have the chance. Not for the faint of heart Polanski's Macbeth is violent and evil, but not outside the structure of the story. A definite must see for the fan of cinematic Shakespeare. P.S. If you like this one check out the 1997 version of Richard III
