Such a memorable Christmas episode I won't soon forget to watch every Christmas season
Ed-Shullivan17 January 2019
With the Rose family sharing a mixed marriage ethnic background it is especially touching that the household's previous breadwinner Johnny Rose (Eugene Levy) who is of Jewish descent (both in the series and in actual life), is the one that is trying so hard to bring his family and friends closer through the spirit of the Christmas/Hanukkah season.

This is both a comical episode and a heartwarming episode. Johnny reflects on Christmas season's past when the Rose family celebrated with their utmost wealth even being financially able to hire the well known pianist and David Letterman band leader Paul Shaffer to play piano at their huge mansion Christmas soiree. Now being almost penniless, Johnny wants to bring back some of those special Christmas memories in Schitt's Creek where he now resides at the seedy hotel he co-owns. Johnny (Eugene Levy) convinces his wife Moira (Catherine O'Hara) who reluctantly goes along with Johnny to purchase a Christmas tree which turns out to be even worse than the Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

Johnny quickly becomes disillusioned by the Christmas season when no one else in his family of four shares his same enthusiasm for wanting to make this Hanukkah with the lighting of the Menorah, and Christmas tree with Christmas Carol singing a reality. We are now in the year 2019 and as such this thirty minute comedy episode sends a message that both Christian and Jewish faiths, gays and straights, black and white, can all share in the true meaning of the Christmas and Hanukkah spirit. Sing one and all and enjoy to your hearts content! A perfect 10 for 10 to enjoy the Christmas season.

A perfect Rose Christmas

Schitt's Creek surely do know super cool ways to end a season. This was really a special kind of episode. I burst out laughing continuously for 5 mins in the scene where Johnny gets disgusted of how messy things really are on a Christmas Eve including Stevie's grandmother box, Alexis's no guest list and the broken Xmas tree. I loved how ambient the motel was, when Johnny got surprised by everyone with David, Patrick and Stevie's epic trio and Alexis and Ted finally together. The carol by the Jazzagirls created a pleasant aura for Christmas and a heartwarming way to end the season. Eugene Levy's big smile at the end was the cutest thing.

Haphazard, Loving Christmas

Johnny dreams of the extravagant Christmases they had in New York when they were rich. He decides they should have a Christmas party at the motel. This is with no regard for anyone else's plans. What follows is a hilarious trip to buy a tree from Ray, who seems to run everything in town. Then there are plans that have been made and resistance from the whole family. What starts as brutal turns into a lovely closing.

Last Minute Party
vivianla16 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Johnny has a dream of when they were back in their lavish home. The home is filled with guests and the dresses - look back for style inspiration. It is a very classy party with people mingling with drinks.

Johnny wakes up from his dream and it is Christmas Eve. He suddenly thinks to do a last minute party and tells the kids. Moira climbs into bed with Alexis and they both huddle under the covers as they listen to Johnny.

Johnny says to get the menorah out as he leaves the bedroom.

Alexis goes to Ted's place that is filled beautifully with decor. He has penguin decor above the fireplace. Ted wears a frilly apron and he is baking cookies.

The Rose couple goes to a barn to buy a tree sold to them by Ray. It is overpriced.

Johnny brings home the tree. Johnny learns no one did anything he asked them to. Alexis thought she would be given the guest list. Ted brings a basket of cookies. Johnny cuts the ties off the tree and the tree's branches collapses. It's a ruined tree held together by the ties.

Johnny leaves the motel upset with his family to go to the cafe for meatloaf. Moira arrives at the cafe and drinks from Johnny's drink. She says ew in disgust because there is no booze in it.

They walk back to the motel in the beautiful evening. The motel has beautiful lights and inside Johnny is surprised with a party. The tree has these beautiful shimmery streamers. Stevie says to be careful as there shouldn't be a match around this tree that has an insane amount of super glue. She has the perfect expression on her face - it is good acting.

Roland has the baby sleeping on his chest.

Twyla starts off the Jazzagirls and the camera goes around to show everyone. Ted and Alexis look so in love.
