A spy thriller? Nice :)

Warning: Spoilers
It seems to be that after the unimpressive "The Kembleford Dragon", the sixth season of "Father Brown" is getting better and better. "The Face of the Enemy" proves it without a shadow of a doubt.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are great here. The music, direction, acting- all is good. Really liked seeing Nancy Caroll as Lady Felicia. She gave yet another strong performance. Also enjoyed Richard Harrington's portrayal of a spy, who had some James Bond's suaveness to him.

. The story of "The Face of the Enemy" is very intriguing indeed. There are some nice twists and turns. In terms of a murder mystery it is very enjoyable. Harrington's character getting shot was an intense scene.

But...

. It could have been nice after all these thrills and intrigue the story would have built to something more concrete. The ending did feel melodramatic and with not a single strict answer of what exactly is going on, I was let down.

Overall, a good episode up until the end.

Fantastic, the whole cast reunite for a spy thriller.

The Face of The Enemy is without any doubt, one of, if not the best episode of Father Brown. Every single aspect of this episode is virtually flawless, a fantastic cold war inspired plot, great characters, and some fine performances, notably Richard Harrington. It's a real high point, a genuinely good murder mystery.

So nice to see all the show's regulars together in one story, Lady Felicia and Sid are much missed, so it's great to see them return, even if it's just for one episode.

Despite so many great elements, the real highlight for me is actually the performance from Mark Williams himself, his showdown with Whittaker was superb. I've always been a fan, I just didn't realise he was this good.

Fabulous 10/10

I always enjoy watching Father Brown, and I must admit I've had a bit of a hiatus in watching Father Brown (in fact recently I jumped to episode one of season 10). Anyway, wonderful to see the return of Lady Felicia from Rhodesia. Richard Harrington looks like the lead actor from House of Cards believe it or not, but anyway I wonder if he's a triple agent or what.

The ending was hilarious, set in the then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR as in the Beatles song), with the photo of the scones showing up.

Production values were superb as always, with cloudy British weather for realism.

A fun but preposterous story that marks the return of Lady Felicia and Sid.

Lady Felicia has been carrying on with her lover Benedict Northam in Rhodesia. She plans to tell her husband that the marriage i s over. However MI5 agent Daniel Whittaker has been recording intimate conversations she has been having with Northam and tells her that he is a Soviet spy.

Whittaker blackmails Lady Felicia to acquire a secret film that Northam plans to handover to the Russians at an arts fund raiser. Northam has a personal secretary who is besotted with him and is prepared to kill to help him out. Father Brown needs to get Lady Felicia out of the mess which means getting through to the zealot agent Whittaker.

Although it is nice to see both Sid and Lady Felicia it seems a world away that they were once part of the regular cast. It just shows how seamlessly Bunty has fitted in.

There is an aura of uncertainty about Northam as he claims he might be indeed a triple agent.

Billingsgate

I have just seen this episode on the Drama TV channel and I seem, to be the only one making a review that isn't exactly chuffed about it.

I followed the story along to over half way through, and it then became to say the least somewhat convoluted.

I am used to a few red herrings in these shows but frankly, it appeared to morph into billingsgate.

And then quite literally near the death of the episode, another well for me it was just 1 fish to many.

Long before this I had ceased giving a monkeys, about who was who or why.
