An infectiously engaging globetrotting romp which somehow manages to incorporate kung-fu action, spy intrigue, and romcom into a musical format. Only the "Gorilla" moviemaking team of Michael Glover and Robyn Rosenkrantz could conceive such a genre smorgasbord - and actually pull it off. While most indie productions are limited to a few single key locations, 36 Husbands leaps seamlessly from Paris to Los Angeles, with stopovers in Frankfurt, Berlin, and the wilds of Australia. Add to this some trompe-l'oeil acts of cinematic deception, and you have a refreshingly upbeat entertainment. Howard Corlett is a particular standout among the energetic cast.

Avoid if you can!!

36 Husbands ? ?
What can i say? It's probably the worst film I have ever seen.
A very silly production that can't be taken seriously. Badly edited and cut. Absurd acting and actors. A foolish plot. Is this a comedy? If so, it isn't the least bit funny. I am still trying to figure out what this film is about, other than a bunch of people travelling around the world. Avoid if you can!!

They tried, but it's a fail.

First, I noticed all the positive 8 - 10 out of 10 reviews were written a day after this film was listed on here. Second: the reviewers have only reviewed this title since September 2019 !!!
Anyway, there wasn't anything in the film that made me want to believe that this was a film. Some funny moments and that's where the 1 star comes into it. I cringed at the fighting scenes where you could see it was rehearsed. Overall, the film tries to be funny but doesn't work. The actors try too hard to be funny and certain times the acting was forced.

Where was the comedy?...

I sat down to watch the 2019 movie "36 Husbands" from writer and director Michael Glover with the impression that I was in for a spy comedy. Well, that might be true to some extend, but this was hardly a comedy that suited my tastes and preferences.
First of all, I must say that I just couldn't get into the mojo of this movie, as neither the storyline nor the characters were overly appealing or offered much of anything that was particularly entertaining for me to watch on the screen. And little did it help that the acting performances put on in "36 Husbands" was questionable for most parts.
"36 Husbands" comes off a being a mystical, musical, Kung Fu spy comedy. Well, that should be taken lightly, very lightly, or you'll end up sorely disappointed.
I didn't even finish the movie, nor made it halfway through. The movie was just a massive swing and a miss in terms of proving to be entertaining and enjoyable for me, so I ended up getting up to watch something else.
I wasn't familiar with the people on the cast list, which is usually something I enjoy. But for "36 Husbands" it was not the case. I suppose it was because of the wobbly acting performances and the horrible dialogue that was delivered equally horribly.
The movie was permeating with a low budget feel; not that it is necessarily a bad thing. But in the case of "36 Husbands", it wasn't a factor that worked well in favor of the overall enjoyment of the movie.
My rating of "36 Husbands" is a mere two out of ten stars, mostly based on the production value and the fact that people were seeming to be enjoying mkaing the movie. However, this is not a movie that I can recommend you spend your time, money or effort on. Nor is it a movie that I will be returning to watch the rest of, ever.

L.A.C. with a heart for film making

Bright Blue Gorilla's latest creation is a sweet little monster of a comedy.
I will have to introduce the term LAC for this. Low action comedy (LAC).
A spy movie of sorts with 3 secret female agents and helpers trying to secure world peace through marrying and deceiving dubious male characters who might pose a threat to the world one way or another. This includes special combat techniques, kung fu , sedatives and travels across the world.
As a production of extreme low cost it praises the love of film making, making things possible within an impossible budget. With an almost innocent approach the creators pour their heart into storytelling with a combination of goofy (in the best sense of the word) surrealism and an almost Tarantino like kitch style. The deliverance of the understated humor in this piece and the construction of some scenes reminds me of an early Pedro Almodovar from time to time (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown springs to mind).
All together this TAC is a sweet declaration of love to the film media with a fine touch of surrealism and absurdity sneaked in to the easy going storytelling.

The shoestring stretchers did it again!
mennomedia-232618 December 2019
How much fun it is to stretch a budget? Folksingers-gone-film-producers Bright Blue Gorilla did it again: to make a real movie with just crowd funding. That's the funniest thing: they compete with Hollywood with this unique comedy, made from an outsiders perspective. And even some gender role models are crushed in the meantime with Kung Fu fighting. After seeing this hilarious movie, you would like to make your own film...if you only had as much dedication as them...
Funny rom com/action comedy/parody
ole-1607218 October 2020
A very funny rom-com/action comedy/parody. The plot may not be too realistic - three female agents tries to prevent World War III by marrying powerful men and pacifying them via kung-fu and more - but the movie is very entertaining and it is filled with good music performed by the folk duo Bright Blue Gorilla who has also written, directed and produced the movie.

BBG comedy hits the spot

36 husbands is a truly unique and witty comedy. It goes way beyond a female 007. In highlighting gender stereotypes but reversing the gender characters it highlights not only the inequality experienced by the stereotype but shows the ridiculousness of the whole system. Packaged with some good Karate and action, the movie held my attention to the last minute. Thank you for putting on such a humorous and uplifting movie.
Don't miss this movie!!

36 Husbands is a hilarious commentary on the ridiculousness of our accepted media illustrations. The absurdities of life have not escaped the Bright Blue Gorillas, and once again, they have brilliantly brought a twist and added some extra fun for a boisterous and mirthful ride! I highly recommend 36 Husbands. It is family friendly and layered with intoxicating laughs!
Full of freak

Do you like a movie with real people acting real silly than this is the movie for you! The plot is ridiculous in a good way and there is origional music. The costumes are to die for! The kungfu is well done! Enjoyable!
Hilarious movie, unexpected humorous
marcmathiesutrecht4 November 2019
An absolute must-see! Although it's a 'slow' movie, constantly there is happening something unexpected. And although you know nothing of it can happen in real life, it is brought as if it is the most normal thing in life. That makes it entertaining and, like we say in Dutch, makes you sitting on the edge of your chair... Waiting for the next hilarious action.
This is the first movie of this director I see, but I'll definitely go seeing the other movies he has made.
36 Husbands - 90 minutes of fun

36 Husbands lots of fun!
jasonbird-385925 November 2020
If you love spy movies, kung fu movies, comedies, and a fun soundtrack? Then check out 36 Husbands. It's fantastically funny, sprinkled with some cheese, the fun, kung fu, spy movie with a fun story-line will just keep making you say "what is going to happen next?" Bright Blue Gorilla seemed to have a lot of fun making the movie, as much as they seemed to have being in it. Again this movie is a lot of fun, good for some laughs in a time now when laughs are needed.
Silly, nano-budget fun.
movietext19 October 2020
Like all of Bright Blue Gorilla's features, the budget is slightly north of a loaded baked potato, but it's all part of the charm. I've followed the duo for 30 years now, and their music and films won't give your surround sound an explosive workout, but they will leave you smiling. Also suggest earlier efforts like KARATE FILM CAFE, LOSE WITH ENGLISH and GO WITH LE FLO.
BBG's latest wild and zany, family-friendly romp
sageknight20 September 2019
The latest film by the wild and whimsical BBG, 36 Husbands, follows the escapades of three Jane Bonds out to save the world from naughty ne'er-do-wells. Aided by secret codes flashing across the screen behind the blissfully ignorant tv hosts Robyn and Michael (who play themselves), the ladies betroth themselves to 36 unsuspecting males who each hold a piece of the puzzle. The film is a delight for all ages and includes a bonus mystery for the audience to ponder.
A fun indie film
feliciabrown-3295530 September 2019
Although this is low-budget film it's quite entertaining as the filmmakers managed to shoot on location in Europe and Australia. It's a screwball comedy that follows three lady spies as they marry various men to accomplish their assignments. This movie is definitely worth watching if you have a wacky sense of humor like I do.
I love this film

Funny, weird, clever trashy retro entertainment
Yvonne_Ernicke21 October 2020
A spy's delight with Kung-Fu, Love, hide and seak around the world and loads of strange characters in funny, absurd situations. No violence, no sexism (main characters are women), no religion but very good music, colourful retro vibes and family friendly jokes. I guess it's even vegan!
So for heavens sake: watch it!
Bananas on peanuts

Made for probably what a major studio would spend on a limo for one of its stars for a week, this film displays the combination of fun and professionalism that the BBG team has in spades. You will feel better after watching it.
Great Entertainment

Quirky, unusual & with lots of heart
fruscifan30 December 2020
Some 15 months after having last seen "36 Husbands", the sensation of awe, surprise and quirkiness still linger in me: The love of storytelling shines through & will deliver some satisfying laughs and "didn't see that coming" moments.
