some loose ends in movie
omijer24 September 2017
Falling for Vermont was a sweet Saturday night treat. Both lead actors are attractive, serious, and very appealing. The children are excellent, particularly the little daughter, who is both beautiful and very gifted, expressive, and convincing in her role. However, the plot had some rather obvious 'holes' in it. If a car goes off the road in a rain storm, does it still not have a license plate on it that can be traced to the owner? That seems to have gone completely out of the script. Also, did the police not search the car for the driver's belongings, to help identify her? Her cell phone kept ringing, lying on the seat, quite visible, and could have helped identify her despite her amnesia. These seemed like logical steps to take, and would have identified the driver immediately. They were bypassed in order to make the script viable..but actually seemed like a huge compromise instead. One almost sat and shouted at the TV screen, "Look in the car!"..

The 2 leads were very convincing, attractive and one rooted for them to fall in love and finally admit it. Despite the logical issues here, this was a very appealing movie and worth every minute of watching. Two mature, serious leads.

Bravo! I liked this one a lot! Thanks Hallmark!
huggibear23 September 2017
This movie just debuted tonight (9/23/2017) and I really enjoyed it. In fact, I think I'm the first one to add a remark. The main actress is very pretty and she's from Argentina, who would have guessed? She's been in the U.S. since she was 8 years old as I found out from IMDb website. I wonder if she speaks fluent Spanish because she's definitely fluent in English. I liked this movie because the topic was different than the typical Hallmark flick. This one was about amnesia. I often wonder why we get amnesia, what causes it and do some people never regain their memory once they have it. I have often 'imagined' having amnesia and wondered how I would handle it if something were to happen to me and I lost my memory. It makes you wonder, that's all. But this is worth watching. Sweet film. 7 Stars from me! The only downside to this movie is the fact that it was not filmed in Vermont. There is no such place in Vermont. I know because I currently live in Vermont. The location was fictitious or taken from a place in Massachusetts. It was filmed in Canada, not Vermont, disappointed in that only.

Similar plot to another hallmark movie. I like this one better.

I thought the writing was well done, very realistic. First time seeing the two main character actors and I think they did a really good job, very believable in their roles. Definitely worth watching.

Falling For Vermont

Although Hallmark keeps using the same format many times, it was great to see Julie Gonzalo back in action since I haven't seen her since her stint on the "Dallas" reboot on TNT. Since Jesse Metcalfe, her on screen husband from that show is on "Chesapeake Shores," I said Bravo to Hallmark for getting those actors/actresses for parts on their network. Having said that, this is a delightful movie and the casting was great all the way around. I felt the hustle, bustle at the beginning of the movie and wanted a break myself after listening to her staff tell her about all that was planned ahead. The writers made me feel the urgency of her request to take a week and enjoy it being FALL. The rest is wonderful story that ends....well you'll have to see, but it's well worth the time to sit down and watch or like myself, DVR and save for a lazy Sunday afternoon to enjoy!

If you can overlook a fundamental flaw at the start...
jfenn5305811 February 2018
When she crashes her sister's car down a ravine which results in her amnesia, she is found walking along the road by the Sheriff with a cut on her head. It never occurs to the Sheriff to look for a car - If he had he would have found the car nearby, checked the registration, tag, VIN... - movie over in 20 minutes. And after her boyfriend and sister don't hear from her in days, anyone in the real world would have long since called the police to issue a Missing Persons Report. If you overlook those flaws the movie is entertaining enough. Lead actress Julie Gonzalo is very good in everything I've seen her act in, and with her noticeable childhood scar visible right between her eyes, once you see her in a TV show or movie, you'll never forget her - distinctive for her acting and appearance, smooth voice/delivery, and the way she conducts herself. The whole cast does a good job, the kids one of the higher points. As usually with Hallmark, entertaining, not edge of the seat suspense, but entertaining.

Lest we forget...............!!

I know this is almost a doppelganger for A Christmas to Remember with Mira Sorvino & Cameron Mathison - but I liked it anyway ! The 2 leads here, Julie Gonzalo & Benjamin Ayres give assured mature performances and the supporting roles were great. Julie has such expressive features & i could be held spellbound by her beautiful eyes ! Try to come up with more original storylines next time tho' Hallmark !

Love it when mature people fall in love
msarajoy20 July 2020
I really love Hallmark movies, especially those that feature a single parent because then we have a more mature lead actor or actress and not a bridezilla or silly story lines about the leads having petty fights with each other to kick start their fledgling careers or one up the other.

And the 2 leads in this show really came across as a very lovely mature couple. It left me rooting all the way for them - other than the fact her boyfriend is really annoying "Go for Brad"? Yeah, no thanks.

Given that Angela and Jeff establish themselves as mature adults with successful careers and Jeff is a single dad, to then watch them getting all silly in the photo booth made me smile. It is so nice to see 'grown ups' remembering to be young again.

Julie Gonzalo (Angela) played the part of the amnesiac so well. She was lovely and held her own but with a hint of fragility. Benjamin Ayres (Jeff) also did a great job as a very compassionate doctor and a super great dad. I loved the part when she needed to leave and the kids were heartbroken; he just stooped down physically to their level and hugged them. That is so much more comforting than platitudes like "it's gonna be alright." Of course it is gonna be alright but it doesn't feel alright now so the best thing from a parent is a hug and he did it sooo well.

There is good chemistry between the leads and we can feel the yearning. Very nice. I was very taken at how Jeff was watching Angela give an interview 'far away' from him and the look on his face spoke volumes of how much he missed her. He turned the TV off and put the remote control on the table but he did that wordlessly but at a speed and in a way that told us of his heartache - wow that is some masterful acting.

At the end, I love the way the two of them caressed each other's faces with their eyes before kissing. The actual kiss though was a little off but it did not take away from the show. Some great Hallmark kisses were in 'Autumn in the Vineyard' and 'Love at First Bark' - totally and completely toe curling kisses!

Jeff's parents are lovely and so are the townfolk. Makes me want to move to a small town! Vermont in autumn is always so beautiful.

I would definitely watch this again even if I have other shows to watch!

Entertaining if not implausible.
jfenn5305813 February 2019
The basic premise is understood; woman gets in car wreck, suffers amnesia, temporarily adopted by loving family consisting a single dad and two children.

An hour into the movie and I'm still wondering how incompetent the law-enforcement is in this little town, LOL. The fact the Sheriff finds her walking down the middle of the road would naturally lead law enforcement to the theory that she had a car accident. Work backwards from there, find her car, and her identity is discovered within 24 hours.

That said, I really enjoyed the movie and will hope the good citizens will elect a new sheriff by the time the next movie rolls around, LOL.

Very enjoyable
lmgannon24 September 2020
This is one of the better Hallmark movies. I enjoyed every bit of it, and especially liked that it didn't have the usual dumb misunderstandings and contrived drama that most of them have these days. This was very straightforward with an interesting (although not original) plot with excellent character development. I liked everyone in the movie which is so unusual for me. I highly recommend spending time on this one.

Charm in fall
TheLittleSongbird29 November 2021
Throughout my recently started Hallmark film completest quest expanding (so The Spring Fever, Summer Nights, Fall Harvest etc blocks on top of the Christmas films) an interesting quest but very mixed one, there was never the mentality of expecting a classic or the film in question to be flawless. Something that was never managed with the Christmas output. There was always the expectation of seeing a film where one can see at least some effort rather than merely cash-in level.

One can definitely see effort in 'Falling for Vermont', which may be derivative but it is far from cash in level. Of the four Hallmark films seen this weekend (the others being 'Love on Ice', 'Love at First Bark' and 'Eat, Play, Love') this was for me by far the best. It is not flawless or a classic, but have come overtime to not expect any of those things watching Hallmark's Christmas output overtime or take it too seriously. Really liked the ideas here and they are executed well.

'Falling for Vermont' isn't perfect. It is a bit slow to begin with, the set up taking a little too long. As said, it is predictable from being derivative of other films with similar premises (ie. 'A Christmas to Remember').

Some of the dialogue early on is pretty ropey too, the cheese really stinking up the room. The music could have been toned down too tonally and in placement, too constant and too loud.

If in any doubt early on, it is worth sticking with. The production values still manage to be pleasing. It's not too drab or garish in photography, the editing didn't seem rushed or disorganised and the scenery has a real charm to it. Some of the music has some pleasant nostalgic moments. The dialogue is not great to begin with but improves when the plot properly kicks in, not being too sweet and it flows at least.

Furthermore, the story is light-hearted and really warms the heart without going into over-saccharine territory. As well as being very poignant in the more emotional moments. The characters were on the most part ones easy to get behind and carry the film well. The acting is well above average, very good in the cases of Julie Gonzalo (in one of her better Hallmark performances in an affecting performance) and Benjamin Ayres (on sympathetic but never dull form). The chemistry between them is natural and genuine. The children are also strong, especially the daughter, and the relationship has a lot of heart.

In conclusion, not great but well worth watching. 7/10.

Schocking exposé reveals the truth about Vermont's autumn foliage
JCook-imdb11 December 2020
The biggest revelation in this movie is that the state of Vermont apparently doesn't have the brilliantly colored fall leaves like it advertises. Instead, it has about 4 small prop trees that get moved around in the background of various scenes. Vermont's department of tourism has some explaining to do.

Either that or the movie was filmed in Canada in summer, but they wouldn't lie to us about something so central to the premise of the film, would they?

Authentic Hallmark movie
Jazzie-too23 September 2017
When I read the storyline, I almost skipped this Hallmark movie, because it sounded like one I'd previously seen. (girl gets in car crash, in snow, and loses her memory) But then I noticed it was a new, 2017 production. I realize that most, if not all, of these productions are "sappy" and predictable, and this one is basically no different. But that is the very reason i watch almost every single one! I need and carve something that makes me feel good in our world today. Especially now, with all the horrible suffering form hurricanes and disasters, I'm so sorry for all these people and believe we should all contribute financially. In fact, I wish they would create some Hallmark movies that are more realistic and relate to some family caught in a natural disaster crisis. But I'm thankful for all the stories they come up with and hope they continue to produce. In this story"Falling for Vermont", the main characters actually have a good, casual chemistry. I'm a sucker for small community based stories, where people know each other and simplicity rules! If you are a fan of Hallmark, or a new viewer, this one is worth a watch! My rating is a little mixed between 8-10, but i rather like the conflict to the two different lives and hope that others will take a look at their own life and not let all the frills and successes of a business life become more important than family love and connections with people!

Falling, but not for Vermont
moho-4026024 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I usually don't review movies, but I felt compelled to about this one. Now, I am a Hallmark addict--I will watch anything on Hallmark and pretty much love it. Needless to say after some lackluster Summer Nights flicks I was looking forward to my favorite Hallmark genre, Fall Harvest. Falling for Vermont is a direct rip off of one of the other Hallmark Channel's channel, Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. It was a Christmas movie from last year entitled A Christmas to Remember and Hallmark Channel didn't even try to disguise the fact that they were stealing the plot line of the Christmas movie. In Falling for Vermont the lead characters are a famous writer and a small town doctor. A Christmas to Remember's leads were a famous TV host and a small town veterinarian. AND for each movie, the doctor-vet was a widow with small children (I think in the Christmas movie there were three kids as opposed to two in Falling for Vermont). AND both lead females got into car accidents on lonely country roads which caused amnesia. With the exception of the actors and scenery, I felt like I was watching the exact same movie. I am giving it five stars because I did enjoy the lead actors, but I think they did lack chemistry. The kids were cute and not obnoxious as they can sometimes be. Also, I was quite mystified by the fact that this author was extraordinarily famous--her books had just become a movie and she was making TV appearances --but not one person in this Vermont town recognized her although they were all reading her books!

I think Hallmark needs to start to elicit their movie plot lines from other sources (I'd be happy to help!!). I am looking forward to Countdown to Christmas (which starts a bit too early in my opinion--end of October--Thanksgiving is totally overlooked) but I already have concerns about one movie whose theme is ice sculpting because about two years ago Hallmark produced a Christmas movie entitled Ice Scuplture Christmas. We shall see.

Yes, Hallmark, as much as I love you, I did not Fall (ing) for Vermont. Hopefully next week's movie about a pear farm is not a xeroxed version of a prior film

Falling for Vermont?

Warning: Spoilers
I love autumn and I love Hallmark movies. I'm really addicted to watching them over and over again. I would like to rename this movie to "The Four Trees" because... the same four fake "autumn leaves trees" show up again and again. We first see them on Main Street after the doctor take "Elizabeth" out for a stroll. They are in front of the bookstore on Main Street. As we continue to watch they show up over and over again. It is a cute movie and as another review mentioned, it is a direct steal from a Christmas movie from last year. Change of venue but the same script, more or less. I'm watching this again, right now, for the 3rd time.... What can I say, I like hallmark movies!

Watch the final kiss Warning: Spoilers
I agree this is basically the same plot as a Christmas movie with Cameron Matheson and Mira Sorvino so the only thing I want to point out. The final kiss on many are obviously not so good Especially Candace Cameron Bure who makes it known she does not like kissing anyone but her husband. However in this one is if you look really close at the big kiss at the end these two are for lack of a better word swapping spit. When they kiss and separate you can see a long spit string between them and when the go back in for the peck right after you see a smaller string break. I know this sounds gross but I noticed it the first time I saw it and if you pause and take it frame by frame it's kind funny.

Autumn, Athena, Angela, and Amnesia
rebekahrox27 September 2017
Thanks to the excellent acting of all concerned, especially the two leads, this was a very enjoyable little movie. The gimmick in this one was amnesia. This is not one of the usuals. A stressed out and manipulated best selling young adult author makes her getaway right before she is about to be interviewed on TV. Yes she leaves everyone in the lurch at the last minute. She has an automobile accident and loses her memory. This is where a little suspension of disbelief kicks in because she needs a week or two without her memory for a story and a romance develop. She is a world famous author who was about to be on the red carpet for a movie premier of a movie based on one of her novels. And no one except her sister and her boyfriend/manager knows she is missing. Add to that the police do not search for a car which should have been found in hours as a tree fell across the road where her car drove into a gully. That is where her cell phone is and the clues to her identity.

Oh well, these are the little things you just have to roll with when looking at a Hallmance. These things rest on the appeal of the leads and secondary characters and based on this, it was a win. The actress, Julia Gonzalo, reminded me of another actress, and it was driving me crazy until I figured it out: A little known in America English actress Charity Wakefield. Looked just like her. I liked the widowed doctor as portrayed by Benjamin Ayers as well. Very likable guy.Pleasant scenery, gentle romance, nothing much to mock. The amnesia trick added some suspense and interest as well. I loved the way the set decorators stuck fake orange leaves in random places as well to convey the Fall theme. Very amusing. Well worth watching.

Good, but we need new plots!
MIssM1930 September 2017
What I love about these types of movies is the vibe the theme gives us, in this case: fall, leaves falling, having a cup of coffee while reading a book (Even though Spring just started for me) and I loved that about the movie. I also enjoyed watching my fellow compatriot, the sweet Julie Gonzalo, but...

It is the EXACT same plot as "A Christmas to remember"

I liked the movie, I enjoyed Angela's journey and I really liked ALL the parallels given at the beginning of the movie and their counter parts at the end. However, there were so many things, details and important things regarding the plot, that bothered me. Like, the boyfriend waiting two weeks to file a Missing's Person Report? Come on.

Chemistry between the characters? I saw a tiny spark throughout the movie but nothing worth smiling-at-the-TV/computer for.

And I have something to say about this movie in particular: Julie is Argentinian okay? It would have been lovely to make her Latina and have representation.

I liked the movie but I'll probably won't watch again.

Heartwarming fall movie
jml19885 November 2019
The setting for this movie made the whole thing. I connected with the main character and her reluctance for the busy city life. I would have wanted to escape to Vermont too! I really liked the chemistry, not only the romance, but the relationship with her and the daughter was fantastic. The only thing that bugged me was that it took them TWO WEEKS to finally find her car. They should have been searching for what got her to that road no more than one day later!

Time traveling novels, amnesia and a small town doctor in Vermont.
cgvsluis22 February 2022
Vermont in the Fall there is nothing lovelier. Angela is a young adult fantasy author who has written a very popular trilogy about a girl named Athena who can time travel. It has been picked up and made into a film on the verge of release and Angela is set doing a huge publicity junket, for which she is exhausted and just craving some normalcy like carving pumpkins, drinking apple cider, a drive in the New England fall. She is set to go live on a local Boston tv show when she sees her sister's (who acts as her personal assistant) car keys and grabs them taking off unnoticed.

The problem...she ends up having a car crash and being found walking on the highway barefoot with a head injury and amnesia. The good local doctor takes her in and takes a look at her. They didn't find her car, so have no clue as to her identity...but the sherif is looking in to it. Meanwhile she stays with the handsome town doctor who is a widower with two kids and assumes the name Elizabeth.

Elizabeth nee Angela gets to do all of the things she had wanted to do while she tries to figure out who she is...fitting in and falling in love with the ready made family and small town life. This movie kind of writes itself.

There is great chemistry between our two leads and the story was kind of fun making this a great fall recommendation.

Who picks blueberries in the fall
kizat8 March 2020
With plot holes and a lot of goofs, my first thought when we first meet the kids is that no one picks blueberries in October. They tell the dr that Nana took them blueberry picking, in October? Hmmmm I live near a blueberry farm and every year it offers picking in July. Otherwise the movie was the same cookie cutter Hallmark movie.

I actually liked this a bit better than A Christmas to Remember, but aside from it not being Christmas, the basic set up was virtually identical. The two leads had quite a bit of chemistry.

Falling for Vermont
studioAT8 January 2023
I always like Julie Gonzalo in these films. She's much more grounded than some of Hallmark's other leading ladies in her performance, and because of this her characters come across as being a bit more real.

The format for this film feels a bit paint by numbers, as Hallmark trot out another reused premise (the lead gets amnesisa) but stick with it after a bumpy first 30 mins and you'll find this warms up to be a rather nice entry.

Lots of nice moments along the way, and despite Peter Benson's normal wooden performance as the boyfriend you know the female lead will ditch towards the end, this manages to be a lot of fun.

Lauren McNamara is very good in her role as the daughter too.

A good Hallmark outing.
