It's a story about betrayal a wife did to her family.
respectglory27 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's really horrible to do that to your family... to lead a double life... lacking in trust... they never owned her whole heart. She and her sister fell into a world of make believe, selling their souls for sex and drugs, and being supported by like-minded people. It was all done in secret, and yet it was brought into the light, and her family suffered because of her intimate betrayal which caused them to question everything they had built with her in the last 16 years. I fast forwarded through the sex and drug scenes, because I've never been into that and I've seen enough to make me puke. Had they shortened the adult scenes I would've added more stars. I'm 57.

Crudely Made Thriller Offers Insights into the Will to Survive
lavatch4 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In "Unconditional," a happy family is torn apart due to the secret life led by the mother, Evelyn Ward. By day, Evelyn is a successful defense attorney. By night, she is visiting the Raven's Den for close encounters with strangers, drugs, disguises, and the equivalent of the "red room" in "Fifty Shades of Grey."

When Evelyn dies of a drug overdose at the Den, she leaves behind a traumatized husband and daughter, Adam and Mary, who seek to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and try to understand the woman they never apparently knew.

The most interesting part of this film is the response of the father and the daughter to shocking revelation about dear Evelyn. In both instances, Adam and Mary get into fights, externalizing their grief and attempting to come to terms with the unknowable.

The film keeps up a semblance of suspense as Adams tries to track down the details of his spouse's "other" life. Overall, it was a preposterous and far-fetched story. It was especially unconvincing that the effects of Evelyn's drug use would not be apparent to her family members.

It was the internal struggle and the push back from the outside world by the insensitive students at Mary's school and the incompetent police that challenged Adam and Mary to resolve their crisis on their own. And they do succeed, demonstrating the indomitable human spirit to survive.

A let down
FrancineLocke3 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Edgy story, but unrealistic acting. Staged, not well scripted, long and ponderous scenes, overly dramatic. When tragedy strikes, no parent breaks down in hysterics in front of their child, that happens behind closed doors.

In terms of character development, you never really cared about any of them. There was nothing desirable, nothing engaging.

To end with a posthumous letter from the mom giving a lame excuse for her devastating and sick behavior and also professing her love and respect for her daughter and husband was terribly contrived & another letdown. No guilt, no remorse, a broken lost soul that really didn't matter at all after all.

The movie that turned me off from indie films
misty-72499-619343 January 2022
Don't watch this if you have epilepsy, they don't have a flash warning but there is a scene with flashing lights.

The main actor was way too over the top showing he had no connection to how people really would act in those situations, thank goodness he had the teenagers to save the film from totally tanking. I can get the whole revenge storyline but this badly written dribble is best left on the computer... hidden by a password... where no one cam see it.

Unconditional had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Well thought out theme covering a host of emotions. Looking forward to a sequel.
