They've Never Lost A Father
boblipton6 December 2021
Ernest Truex's wife is in the hospital to give birth to their first child, and she wants him there. But his boss, Montagu Love, is in a typically terrible mood.

Barring a brief prologue and epilogue, this comedy short is set half in the office, where Truex is completely distracted and trying to get the day off, and half in the hospital, where we get a sampling of the stereotypical silliness of men whose wives are giving birth. Both parts are good, but I prefer the second half.

In this short film, Ernest Truex is a very nervous father-to-be. His wife is at the hospital about to give birth and she asks him to be there. He plans on going but just when he's about to ask his boss for the day off, the boss fires a man for taking off too much time! And, the boss is in an especially bad mood! So Ernest is afraid to ask for anything from the crabby boss. But eventually the subject comes up...and the boss fires him as well!! What's next? Well, quite a bit...including Ernest's trip to the hospital.

This is a very cute film....not so much funny as sweet and enjoyable. It's rather funny seeing Truex being so nervous as well as the other expectant fathers....though I am sure some women watching this would have a few things to say about the women's role in all this! Well worth seeing and quite unique.
