- This film revolves around differing opinions about the acceptability of nudity amongst family members, and opinions about romantic and/or sexual activity, by youths who have just reached puberty, with partners of various ages. Attitudes toward homosexuality are dramatized. Incest is hinted at.
- Angel and Ema routinely share a bed, although other rooms are available.
- The two youths, and in another scene their parents, swim nude at night; these scenes are dark and nudity is brief.
- 13 Year old Malena Alonso is shown fully frontal nude, her budding breasts and hairless vulva visible.
- Ema is seen pulling down her shorts and squatting, her buttocks partially visible. A stream of urine leaks out from between her legs as she urinates outside.
- There are two fairly lengthy scenes of a boy and girl around 12 years old, in one they strip off as they run to a bath outside, both briefly seen full frontal, the girl gets out and is and is chased by a woman with a towel. In the second the same boy and girl are seen skinny dipping in a pool, the boy gets out and walks up to a woman sitting on the ground and says "I am your man" At this point he is seen from the rear but she is obviously looking at his penis and comments she has seen bigger.

- In a flashback, two people are shown to have died painfully. Other people are either stated or hinted to have died, possibly in related actions.
- One character threatens to kill two others.
- Someone is punched in the face and we see a bloody lip. A person is hit on the head with a stick and we later see blood on the face. Two characters scuffle, choking and biting but without blood. Both youths are seen with bloody, skinned knees, and various other cuts and scrapes.
- A bird is shot with an arrow. Killing other animals is mentioned and suggested.
- Blood is wiped from a cut onto a plate of food. Other food is shown as maggoty or with bugs in it. Bathwater is described as changed infrequently and we see a frog in it. Angel and Ema share a spit drool, possibly having kissed.
- Characters urinate outdoors, including once on drying laundry with a visible yellow stream. In another scene, a person raises the penis of an anatomically correct doll and causes it to "pee" on someone's shoes.
Profanity

- As English subtitled on the Alive DVD, there isn't much. It ranges from mild name calling like fatty, pigs, and stupid, to four or five strong uses including whore, b*tch, f*cking b*tch. In the only very strong usage, a character is called a "psychotic bitch who never had what she wanted: a big hard cock inside her ass."

- There's no recreational or social use. A character is drugged with something to induce sleep several times.
Frightening & Intense Scenes

- It's a horror film, with occasional ominous scenes, hints of paranormal phenomena, and moments where doubt creeps in as to what is real and what isn't. At times Angel and Ema seem to be in danger; conversely, their lifestyle and actions may disturb viewers.
- The ending dramatizes an extreme response to moral extremism. Why it happens and who does what - and their nonchalance -- will be intensely disquieting to many viewers.

Sex & Nudity
- Through dialog and situations, 11-year-old Angel is known to be engaging in some sexual activity with one or more boys his own age, and, separately, with an adult man. Also, a man-size bite mark is seen on Angel's arm. And when Ema waggles a finger between the legs of a doll, imitating a penis, Angel takes it in his mouth; there the scene ends.
- We see curled toes, facial expressions, and some arm movement when Angel masturbates next to Mona as she enquires about his relations with other boys.
- Ema taunts Mona, saying Ema and her brother are going to have three babies together.
- Clara confronts Mona, saying people like Mona who call gays "perverts" killed Clara's son.
- Mona describes young Angel as beautiful. There are hints that Mona and her now deceased brother may have had incestuous relations.
Violence & Gore
- We see an array of dolls that Angel or Ema or both have "tortured" by ripping off heads, drowning, and burning.
- We see and hear a person murdered in a painful, inhumane way.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- BIG SPOILER HERE...............................look away now......................... Viewers may be intensely disturbed at the realization that the entire situation, including murder, was planned from the beginning to give the perpetrators "closure" and to satisfy their desire for revenge on society -- anyone would do, who promotes certain views they despise!
