When the Red Dwarf encounters a strange lesion in time and space the crew find that every time they make a decision they find themselves doing the thing that they decided not to do. After some difficulties they manage to get together and it emerges that the events may be linked to a 'Quantum Skipper' that Kryten invented. This enables the user to skip between realities
Rimmer decides to use it because he is sure that any other reality will be better than his current one. He visits many other realities and at first sight many of them are better but each has a flaw that makes Rimmer decide he must keep looking elsewhere.
As this successful season comes to a close viewers are treated to a great episode; the story is full of classic Red Dwarf moments and contains a guest appearance that is a real treat for the fans. The early scenes where 'wrong' choices are made was a lot of fun; especially as Lister took advantage of the situation to get the Cat to do things he would never usually do. The second half of the episode, which focuses on Rimmer visiting alternate universes was a treat too; the highlight was seeing Norman Lovett return as Holly, the ship's computer, in one of the realities. Other realities visited include one with lots of Listers, one where Cat is replaced by Rat and all his relatives and one that seems perfect until he learns who the Ship's captain is. I must admit when I first saw the CGI Rat I wasn't too impressed but soon found him to be very funny. The cast was on good form; especially Chris Barrie who is great as Rimmer, who has the main role in the story. Overall I'd say this was a fine episode that I'm sure most fans will really enjoy. After this impressive season I'm sure we'll be getting 'Red Dwarf XIII'; I certainly hope we do.
