The wildly popular game “Fortnite Battle Royale,” an online shooter in which 100 players fight to the death on a cartoonish island arena, is entering the world of higher education. Ohio’s Ashland University announced this week that it’ll be the first college in the U.S. to offer scholarships specifically for the game.
Although it currently has no formal esports scene, “Fortnite” has consistently been the most-watched title on Twitch’s streaming platform in recent months, with competitive broadcaster Ninja shattering viewership records when he had hip-hop star Drake as a guest on his channel. Online organizations like The eSports Hub and Mlg GameBattles have also begun establishing ladders and tournaments.
“I think ‘Fortnite’ has a lot of room for players to get creative,” incoming head coach Josh Buchanan, who has a background in “StarCraft II” esports, told Variety. “There’s a lot of teamwork in [the game’s core building mechanic] that’s really untapped.

This week on The CW’s Arrow, Oliver seemed to go off the deep end in the wake of Diggle’s departure from the team. But what was really at play?
After Felicity tries but fails to “Parent Trap” Oliver and Dig with a reunion, Oliver takes a meeting with Councilman Kullens, who scoffs at the idea that some two-bit drug dealer like Ricardo Diaz compromised not just a police captain but also the Da. In desperate need of damning evidence that connects Hill and Armand to Diaz, Oliver gets from Felicity just that — though to present it to the...

The Overwatch League and team Boston Uprising suspended a player Sunday as they investigate allegations that a 21-year-old gamer pursued a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old fan, the organizations said Sunday evening.
Jonathan “DreamKazper” Sanchez is suspended indefinitely from both the league and the team, while both organizations conduct internal investigations.
“Earlier today, the Overwatch League was made aware of the allegations against Jonathan ‘DreamKazper’ Sanchez,” the Overwatch League’s official account tweeted on Sunday evening. “He is suspended indefinitely while the league investigates this matter.”

Doomfist is one of the more recent characters to have been introduced to Overwatch, which is Blizzard Entertainment’s latest franchise. For those who are curious, Overwatch was announced using a video featuring some of the characters fighting over an object called Doomfist, which was perhaps unsurprisingly, a rather fancy gauntlet of some kind that was capable of punching much harder than it should’ve been able to. Initially, Doomfist wasn’t intended to be anything more than an useful object for the plot of the announcement video. However, as time passed, it became clear that the fans had become obsessed with the

Steven Spielberg Invented the Modern Blockbuster, but ‘Ready Player One’ Suggests He Might Regret It
Steven Spielberg is going to die. Hopefully not today or tomorrow or anytime soon, but at some point in the near-ish future — after more than five decades of projecting his soul directly onto movie screens — the bearded architect who built so much of the modern world’s collective imagination will fade into its collective memory. Considering that the increasingly prolific filmmaker has released two major studio features in just the last four months, it might seem a bit premature to speculate about Spielberg’s demise (or even his retirement), but the guy is 71 years old, and not even the gods can live forever.
More to the point, Spielberg has clearly started to think about this himself, the shadow of his own mortality creeping into his body of work. Case in point: “Ready Player One.”
While Spielberg’s sexagenarian years found him continuing to zero in on the themes that have...

With Overwatch being as popular as it’s ended up, many fans of another current Blizzard title, Heroes of the Storm, have naturally been wondering if the publisher has characters planned to appear in their crossover Moba. One character, Tracer, has been available in Heroes since April, but statements hinting at more heroes joining the fray have been hard to come by.
Destructoid writer Chris Carter recently reached out to Blizzard for any possible word regarding the possibility, and Kent-Erik Hagman, one of their lead designers, offered an encouraging statement:
I’d say the reaction to Tracer has been overwhelmingly positive! She has such a fun, almost militantly- positive personality that brings a unique voice to the Nexus. Having seen how our players reacted to her, you can definitely say that we’re looking at adding even more Heroes from Overwatch! There are so many awesome characters that we think would make great,...
