find a better deal
BtzLtd24 June 2019
The acting and directing are broken well within the first ten minutes of this movie. an absolutely painful dialogue between the houseguest and the realtor reveals the lack of effort put into the project, and the movie never hits stride so much as stumbles throughout. a weak plot leads to an open ending, and one can only hope this cycle does not begin anew. not recommended at all.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

Overall, not a bad movie, if you don't mind indies. Apart from being as scary as a peanut and moving at a snail's pace, saved only by the occasional rocker dude to look at, this is strictly for that hour or so you need to kill while waiting for an appointment or preparing for bed.

All I can say is, if this lead character got his art and music 'talent' from the Devil, I'd say he got done in badly and should give back the so-called gifts bestowed. If this is the level of talent you give up your soul for, I'd suggest you stick to your own. Maybe this is the same devil today's "artists" sold their soul to, because the film's credibility falls greatly with this tiny detail - the level of genius the lead character is supposed to have gotten from his deal.

Perhaps the producers should have invested in actual talented musicians and painters to sell the premise of the story. It just reeks of inauthentic dribble among acting that is not bad at all.

What?!?
lizzybruck28 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Most of these "great" reviews made me question if I watched the same movie as these other people!

This was a train wreck from start to finish with the best part being the description I read pre-viewing which intrigued me but unfortunately did Not describe the movie accurately at all!!

I understand this was a very low budget film but finding a person with a steady hand to hold the camera would have been a good idea.

The acting was hilariously bad with some characters over pronunciating Every Single Syllable, dramatically sighing, using unnecessary pregnant pauses or looking like they are reading every word from the very poorly written script.

This was a supposed horror movie with no blood, gore, suspense or jump scares.

Now let's get to this "plot"(s).

It takes place in the same crappy house 3 years apart, with this dude renting out this house where a supposed serial killer used to live. This guy is a writer with alcohol and addiction problems which has No bearing on the plot whatsoever and is commissioned by his boss to live in this house, and interview anyone who knew this serial killer guy to write a book about him I guess... They transition to 3 years before by having conversations with many hilarious acquaintances of serial killer guy, and jump back and forth in time throughout the entire film using this tactic. Apparently, like Many movies have successfully done before, a man makes a "Deal with the Devil" to improve his life. By making this "deal" he is supposed to get money, status and acclaim for his "art work" and fiddle playing? The entire "deal" was very vague and confusing so I'm not sure what he was agreeing to... After the Devil gets this guy to kill and chop up his wife (who looks 20 years younger than him and her over the top acting abilities had me laughing out loud then rewinding just to watch and laugh again), he tells this dude to spend all of his OWN MONEY on a party at his crap hole of a house to have some fun and sell his art?? This "deal" seems kinda one sided throughout the entire movie.

At this party, an old "art dealer" dude decides that this guys paint by number pieces of crap are worth $10,000 and tells him to keep the art gold coming because apparently civilization has lost all taste in what actual art looks like, and soon convinced this guy that on top of his super duper art and fiddle playing he thinks he would be an Amazing poet as well!! That same night, the devil gets a girl super hammered and after she pukes he convinces her to spend the night with that guy. The devil shows up post coitus and tells the dude that because he gave him a tiny bit of success, a little bit of cash and convinced the world he had a little bit of talent that in return this dude has to kill this drunk girl and dispose of the body. This apparently continues with 17 more gullible women with no one catching on.

This was when I started to fall asleep and Literally forced myself to keep watching.

To make a very long, boring, and pointless movie short, the guy falls in love with a women, devil wants him to kill her, he says no so he kill's himself instead.

The end comes back to the present with the writer guy. He meets an easy girl on the street, she gets off on being kissed and strangled and this dude kills her...the devil shows up and wants to now make this new guy a "deal"...literally pointless. I am boring myself Writing about this awful movie.

Don't waste your time. This is by far the worst movie I've seen in a very long time.

Better than I had hoped
djdienda15 March 2017
This movie surpassed my expectations in every way. I've watched several edits of the film and this one takes the cake. Characters are. Wliebabnle, story flows, and there were several moments JUMP moments that I didn't see coming.

This is a classic example of how a bunch of friends can come together and make a movie that's worth watching without breaking the bank.

If you like indie horror films I think you'd like this one.

Benjamin Thomas and co. - pure magic !!
pauleyc200213 November 2018
This is gem of a movie ----the characters are very believable ..Eric Wolfgang Nelson is scary -good as Ba'al satans right hand man ----his casual manner and dreadful demands were spot on --at one point in the film I had to look thru my hand because I didn't want to experience what I was seeing -that's powerful .....Baals makeup and costume was perfect- mesmerizing as this horror flick might be with a character like Ba'al ...being a musician myself I was completely drawn into Don and his new found talent on the violin ----his syren song is very effective ...watching the gradual madness overtake the characters was gut-wrenching and the timeline jumps are perfection .....the poor writer who is goofy and not able to talk to women is very engaging and I felt like I would have done very much the same thing -this is a fantastic indie film that deserves praise for what they accomplished ..I still brood and wonder if in reality this plays out a thousand times a day on our world unseen but not for those caught up in such a tragic horror as their time is short and there is no escape expect by.......... truly hoping this film brings some well-deserved notoriety to all involved in the film........Bravo !!

Very Good Psychological Thriller
phantomstage31 October 2018
Unique movie, and scary as well. Eric Wolfgang Nelson who plays Baal, does an amazing job. In my opinion Benjamin Thomas the Writer, Producer and Director has a Hitchcock side to him, which I enjoyed. Some of the lighting is reminiscent of the 1940's and the story is really good. Bottom line is that you will enjoy watching this movie, it holds your attention all the way through !!

Boldly entertaining. A chilling glimpse into the secret world of evil doers!

What drives a seemingly normal and well meaning artist to do the Devils dirty work? Find out as you watch Deal With The Devil. Director Benjamin Thomas has struck spooky movie gold. As I was watching, the lines of reality and fiction began to blur as I began to relate with all the finely crafted characters. The simplistic soundtrack added the perfect amount of tension as the "Deal" spiraled out of control. I especially loved the the way the story weaved in and out of past and present moments. Overall the film is very well written and left me questioning my interest in the dark side... wouldn't wanna get caught up in the cycle...

Great film!
tioricky75 January 2019
Benjamin Thomas is a dedicated filmmaker who has a vision for storytelling.

This story not only is very relevant in today's world but also makes you think about what really matters after all.

Visually the story is easy to understand and filmed beautifully. I've seen a lot of low busget movies that don't even come close to what Thomas and his team were able to accomplish on a low budget. I hope to see more from Thomas soon.

This movie is a must watch on Halloween or honestly any day if you're looking for chills.

Nice Indie Spook Film
neilmcdonald736 May 2019
As with many indies, budgetary restrictions are a given. But Benjamin Thomas overcomes this with an eye for setting and location, and a cast that works so well. As Baal, Eric Wolfgang Nelson exudes a quiet evil that is only evident once he gets his hooks into Don Bradley, played by Don Brandon. The rest of the cast works really well too, and some you will recognize from other features and national commercials. Benjamin brought them together with sharp editing, good sound, cinematography, and excellent location filming in St. Louis and the Ozarks. Netflix and Amazon have been streaming films of much worse quality for years, and Deal With The Devil definitely should be on your watch list. Help support independent film, you will be rewarded by the quality of talent out there waiting to shine.

Intriguing
addition-0765226 February 2020
This movie kept my interest to the very end. If you are religious at all, you can't help but be curious. The subject of dealing with the devil is just terrifying. I like the scene changes and camera angles. Camera from behind the vent - scary and the haunted sounds. The character, Paul, I thought was a natural. Good acting. Don's character was interesting. I liked how his violin skills got better but creepy. Murphy was a great character. Setting was good in the older home in the city.
