Jane Austen has been done, and modern Jane Austen has been done, so a modern Jane Austen mashup seems like the logical next step. In that respect, the show is an intriguing undertaking. There are even some modern additions I enjoyed, like Emma being a divorce lawyer and matchmaking in her spare time.
For me, the frustration of this show is that it often leaned away from the romance associated with Austen in favor of sitcom style episodes with wacky one-offs. Some worked better than others. But perhaps because of this the shows leaves all romantic subplots inconclusive by season's end. The show has potential, but the end left me wondering if they ran out of funding halfway through production.
