To the point - fantastic episode, perfect blend of what makes POI special
veracityyt22 October 2014
I'll keep it short. This episode was a great blend of character, thrill, and action. The number seemed trivial at first, but he was a key to something much bigger. Essentially, this episode wasn't only about saving one person, but fighting on a larger scale. One of the better episodes of the series, probably best in this season yet. Looking forward to the story unfolding more!

+great revealing of character and emotion, exploring purpose

+the return of flashbacks is welcome

+brilliant build up of suspense

+gives a sense of whats to come

-quite the cliffhanger ending

Directly into the TV Hall of Fame, DO NOT PASS GO
A_Different_Drummer10 June 2015
Suspect that 2015 will go down in the history books as one of the more interesting years for quality television.

Hard to believe this is the same show that barely a year earlier was often getting caught in what this reviewer liked to call (in earlier reviews of specific POI episodes) "TBAA" or Touched by An Angel style episodes that went 'round and 'round but ended up nowhere.

This episode marks a turning point in the entire POI arc. JJ Abrams appears to have unleashed the best and the brightest in his writing team and the results are staggering, even by the yardstick of the best of the first three seasons (and some episodes from those POI seasons were stunning).

The word on the street before the start of POI Season 4 was that Abrams was going to steer his favorite production into an examination of the "nature of AI" to a degree not even attempted in Hollywood.

This episode has everything: action, brilliant and effective flashbacks, sharp dialog, solid characterizations and acting.

And best of all, as the entire world is about to fall under the spell of -- to borrow a Harry Potter term -- the "Dark Lord" of AI, the team is still trying to save a single innocent.

Loved it.

Plus, the show packs in stunning moments of laugh out loud lines. Hi-quality acting. Charismatic. What not to like?

Exceptional

Warning: Spoilers
The best Root episode so far: sometimes she has pissed me off by being all cryptic and stuff, but here she shows new sides and dimensions. Also the flashbacks about the very start of the creation of the Machine are finally getting to the core of what the show is, or should be, about. It's amazing how much it has advanced: now to save a number, they have to keep him undetected from all electronic devices! And the numbers are not random but connected to the main plotlines. Let's hope they can keep this up. ***1/2 out of 4.

Electoral Fraud
claudio_carvalho6 March 2024
Reese avoids a corrupt man from committing suicide shooting his leg and Internal Affairs asks the psychiatrist Dr. Iris Campbell to schedule therapy sessions for him. Meanwhile Shaw is working in the campaign committee of Governor James Murray to be close and protect the next number, pollster Simon Lee, who predicted the victory of his boss for 52% x 48% over his opponent Michelle Perez. But after the election, Perez wins, and Simon believes there is electoral fraud. Finch checks his numbers and concludes that Samaritan has tampered the result of the election. The whistleblower Simon Lee becomes a target for Decima that sends operatives to kill him. Finch believes Michelle Perez may resign when he sends dark information about her past to her cellphone. However, Greer's killer Martine Rousseau murders her during victory celebration simulating a heart attack. Soon they learn that Greer wanted her vice-governor, who is a weak man, to assume the position to be easy to manipulate him.

"Prophets" is another excellent episode of "Person of Interest". The plot is based on tampered elections in New York and may be the source of inspiration of Trump first and Bolsonaro later to try to say that their opponents tampered the elections with withdrawal of their votes. The "Terminator" way of moving of Martine Rousseau is funny and quite ridiculous. The destruction and self-confidence of Jason Lee is the sad moment of the show. The discussion of Finch and Root about the creation of The Machine is interesting. My vote is nine.

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this was Person of Interest, not Terminator

I love this show. I really do. I consider this one of the best shows that I've ever seen.

BUT!!!

Why is the woman working for Samaritan is acting like a ROBOT??? This is not Terminator, is it? So why am I seeing a wanna-be T-X walking around in it? It really is a buzzkill....

And I thought Stanton was bad
nemesis-8817 February 2024
This episode marks the appearance of the worst character and actress in this show - Cara Buono as Martine Rousseau. Her character is unrealistically robotic and inexplicably devoted. Mizz Buono herself obviously cannot master an enormously difficult role. She walks like a coat hanger, talks like an answering machine and really doesn't know what to do with the task at hand. The bloody DOG does a better acting job as Bear.

All throughout the series her character remains a badly designed crutch needed to show how ruthless Greer is who himself remains a cardboard cutout villain. WHY she was introduced is difficult to explain. They had the cutesy five-o'clock-shadow guy and "Zachary". Why not use those two. Other than a union-agreed quota for female characters, I cannot imagine why they needed "Martine". Why Sarah Shahi couldn't give Buono a few tips on how to play ruthless assassins is hard to tell but easy to imagine - who wants two Shaws in one show.
