Teen Wolf Infused with The Beverly Hillbillies
poiuytblivet15 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I knew this wasn't a top notch film production, and that's alright. I watch these types of movies all the time. That being said the premise of the story was great, however, *LAST CHANCE SPOILER ALERT* I knew it was going to go down hill when the protagonist's goal was achieved very early in the movie. Because of this, there was nowhere really else to go other than the protagonist saving the day in ways that were a bit drawn out, thereby losing their point in the process.

It was good for a few laughs. Good to see once.

Hot or not
kosmasp5 November 2020
Damn my internet connection. It just went out when I was halfway through writing this. Anyway, this is a silly comedy and I have not read the source comic book this is based on. If it is as silly as this ... well. It is a taste thing now isn't it. I really wasn't too focused on this, but as with most those, you have a lot of violence and blood ... but in this case no nudity (well not explicit nudity - some call a nun in lingerie nudity, so there's that).

Borrowing from different comedies and classics (such as Abbott and Costello), this never reaches the quality those represent. But you probably should know that ... I imagine you do, without me having to point that out. Be aware that this has to be watched with a large amount of disbelief ... and that's still an understatement. Not acknowledging a Werewolf when you see one ... well, what can you say, right? He just grew a beard ... and he smells better ... if that sounds funny to you .. well go on and watch that movie

Horror comedy that almost works
mhorg201826 August 2018
When a redneck doofus sells his soul to the devil, he's changed into a werewolf and, much like Teen Wolf, his life gets better. He gets laid, is popular and has to fight the devil at the end. Worth a view it could have been funnier.

B-Movie Horror Comedy At It's Best
weewinks8 January 2016
This is a wonderfully campy horror comedy movie based on the comic book, "Bubba The Redneck Werewolf", created by Mitch Hyman. The movie was a long intense labour of love from everyone who was involved in it. That being said, this a fun silly movie that will become a cult movie classic for those who enjoy to knock back a beer, or three, or ten, as they enjoy watching movies where nothing is sacred and no one is safe from satire as the jokes fly just as much as ripped off limbs and spewing blood. The best thing about this movie is that it is written AND directed by the Mitch Hyman, the creator of the comic book, who also does a great job of stealing the show with his own acting as he portrays the devil himself, so it is definitely true to the original material! But if you just want a great funny, bloody movie to watch with lots of terrific one liners, then this is the one for you!

Fun "B" Movie

Bubba the Redneck Werewolf (2014)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

Bubba (Fred Lass) is a weak and rather pathetic redneck who loses his girlfriend Bobbie Jo (Malone Thomas) to another man. This here forces Bubba to give up and sell his soul to The Devil (Mitch Hyman), which turns him into a strong and brave werewolf. It doesn't take Bubba long to realize that he's made a mistake.

There have been countless films in the werewolf sub-genre and a few of them have been aimed for laughs. The most popular of the more recent titles would be TEEN WOLF and there's no question that this film is in the same league as that. Sorry, but I'm a fan of TEEN WOLF and I'm a fan of this movie, which is certainly aimed at adults but it's charming enough and for the most part the comedy works well.

The film's main draw is the fact that you've got a redneck playing a werewolf. The make-up effects certainly aren't ground-breaking but for the most part I enjoyed the look of the werewolf. The screenplay has one basic punchline but there's a lot of fun that can be had with it. I thought the film did a good job at keeping things light and entertaining. Of course, comedy is a subjective thing but the various jokes throughout had me at least smiling most of the time.

What really makes the film work are some of the performances. I thought Lass was extremely fun and entertaining as the werewolf and I thought the actor did a very good job at making the character someone you'd like to hang out with. He was a fun "good old boy" and he certainly helped the film. I also thought Hyman was very good in the role of the Devil and I loved the laid back approach that he brought to the character. The two actors really get to have fun together and there's no doubt that they make the material much better.

BUBBA THE REDNECK WEREWOLF isn't a film that's meant to be taken serious. If you're offended at the thought of a horror-comedy then it's best to avoid this movie. To me, this here was a great throwback to when "B" movies were something special and they were made entertaining.

Pretty Good!
GeorgiaDixie3 July 2020
I'm not very big on horro movies, but I do like some of these horror-comedy type. And this one was was very entertaining. Its always fun to watch entertaining redneck/country comedies that are actually made by real folks, not just for making fun of the "dumb hicks". Kind of like Lewis Grizzard, the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, or the good ol' boys of the Burt Reynolds stock company, rednecks having fun while making fun of themselves (and others!). Definitely not politically correct, which is all the better. I especially like the part with the "zombie" college kids looking for mushrooms. Good movie for both cult horror fans and those like me who usually don't watch horror/camp films but love entertaining redneck movies!

The title speaks for itself

With a title like Bubba The Redneck Werewolf you have a pretty good idea of what kind of film it is before you watch it. Very campy horror comedy that has cheap f/x, crude humor relying heavily on stereotypes and ridiculous gore. For that, I am all in. Our hero and main character Bubba is a fairly likeable chap that makes a deal with the devil to win his affection from his girlfriend and becoming a hero of the town. For as cheesy and crass as this is Bubba is good-hearted with wholesome intentions. The lowbrow humor and low production values serve this over the top material well. Bubba The Redneck Werewolf certainly hit the spot for some ultra campy entertainment. I most certainly give this my seal of approval and found this film to be absolutely hilarious.

Cultness. This is a fantastic B-Movie.
dumedime6926 November 2018
The creator of Bubba the Redneck werewolf does a tremendous job with his project. It's funny, smart, a little gory and very fun. I think when they do the second one it'll be even better. The two main characters Bubba the Redneck werewolf and The Devil are the type of Characters that scream Cult classics. Good job.

Horror, humor, and hubris make this wing-eating, cigar-chomping, whiskey-swigging werewolf the hero we all deserve.
thinkingskull-com31 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A big shout out to a special first screening at Spooky Empire's Ultimate Halloween Weekend for letting this dog off the chain and into our little black hearts.

Bubba Blanche (Fred Lass) is a small town, backwoods Floridian who works at the local dog pound when he isn't drinking his sorrows away or worrying about his hair falling out. With a big heart and a small brain, he's lost the love of his life; all Bobby Jo (Malone Thomas) wants is for Bubba to defend her honor and stand up for himself. Careless words summon Old Scratch (Mitch Hyman) to offer Bubba everything his heart desires, but Bubba will have to use his newfound power to save the simple folks of Cracker County and send the Devil packing…assuming Bubba doesn't get distracted by anything or everything else first.

In the twenty years since "Bubba the Redneck Werewolf" first appeared in comics, opportunities to make theatrical and televised versions have come and gone. Where the studios have failed, the creator and a handful of industry folks found the time to realize the character concept and make something special. Maybe it was fate that independent filmmaking tools have caught up to studio-level technology in the time Bubba has languished, and the results are dead solid perfect. Horror, humor, and hubris make this wing-eating, cigar-chomping, whiskey-swigging werewolf the hero we all deserve; even Bubba's theme song is unashamedly addictive. Seeing this production come together in small teases online was fun, but watching the finished film shown for the first time anywhere felt very special indeed.

Boasting a makeup design intended to allow Bubba to be the first cinematic werewolf that can actually smile while he's killing, the production entertains with a clever combination of both practical and computer-generated effects. Clever details and some good-natured ribbing toward small town life that many of us grew up with manage to keep the story moving along. Every conceivable angle is played up, from Bubba first seeing himself in a bathroom mirror to watching the townsfolk being deviled by, well, the Devil! Think Saturday morning cartoons – the really violent ones before networks decided kids couldn't figure out the difference – along with a few strategically placed f-bombs and you're on the right track. This is one of those films like the original Evil Dead which just wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for the love of the material and a well-spent micro-budget forcing maverick filmmakers be as creative as they are passionate.

The Devil is literally in the details. Bubba's creator Mitch Hyman plays the horned antagonist himself, lured to Cracker County by a well-meaning but otherwise idiot yocal foolish enough to sell his soul to get his high school sweetheart back. Hey, hasn't everyone done the wrong the thing for the right reason at one time or another? Okay, well, maybe not…but after you meet Bobby Jo, at least you'll understand where Bubba has his head at (wink wink, nudge nudge). With the film in the can, the big question is: how can they get it in front of the disembodied eyeballs it deserves? Here's hoping this review will go a long way toward doing exactly that.

Bravo to the cast, crew and writers!
TexasBeau17 May 2017
I started this movie assuming it would be yet another in Amazon Prime which I can not tolerate after three to five minutes. Instead I was immediately hooked and absolutely loved it. The writing was very witty and clever, as were all the sight-gags. Excellent direction as well - enhancing the success of the sight gags. All the actors played their roles perfectly. Was it silly? Yes, but so is the Scary Movie franchise. Silly can be bad or be very good, as Bubba is. Highly recommend, especially to those like me, raised in the rural South, and anyone else for that matter. Kudos to all the cast and crew. You made me laugh out loud more than once and that is not something I do often.

Solid Flick for Laughs
johnfsmithjr16 August 2021
This is one of the finer Independent productions I have had the opportunity to view.

The script does exactly what it's intended to, give the actors the opportunity to make you laugh.

I loved it, I hope Bubba comes back for more.

I couldn't get past the opening credits...
genderarm19 April 2018
I'll likely try this one again some day, but I couldn't get past the opening credits. The "Bubba the Redneck Werewolf" song annoyed the hell out of me. I couldn't stomach it.

I'll rate the movie when I actually watch it.
