Conscientia - Obscure, subliminal thriller
jilldalejd6 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
"There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception." I think this movie was too short to truly give the audience an understanding of that intended message. The main character, the scientist, hits the "enter" button and delves into a subliminal state to delve into the unknown. The drawback was that I was a bit confused at the end of the six minutes.

No dialogue yet the acting was very real and dynamic. The cinematography, as usual for this filmmaker, is brilliant. Great color, obscurity and texture; visual FX were incredible. Sound and score was eery yet phenomenal. I think the story needed more developing. Other than that, very enjoyable to watch.

It's intriguing

I have seen many works of director Robert Kouba, and that one didn't disappoint my expectations! A scientist who becomes itself the protagonist of his researches, a cramped and desolate laboratory, a mix of light and shadow that doesn't give respite to the fears of the victim. The rhythm is punctuated by the sounds, images and colors reflect what is happening in the mind of the protagonist. I must say that watching this short film is really intriguing and leaves enough space for many interpretations, because you can't understand the truth until the end of the story. I really recommend it to all the lovers of this genre!

Great Silent Film!

I just finished viewing the film Conscientia by Robert Kouba. First and foremost I would like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It was not what I expected as there is no dialogue, but the viewer is aware of all emotions that the main character is having.

It must be said that the quality of photography is top notch. Clear and sharp picture with an interesting blue filter, Kouba really goes all out as a director of photography.

The sound and picture editing is comparable to a Hollywood big budget thriller. The score is both powerful and haunting and the use of strobe and blackness as lighting keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat anticipating the next step.

All in all I recommend Conscientia for any fan of suspenseful thrillers.
