GOLDEN FISTS OF A DUO is a Taiwanese film that attempts to mix crime drama with kung fu action to poor effect. It's a stilted and long-winded production put out by Joseph Lai and his team at IFD. For once the setting is contemporary with lots of groovy settings and even an impromptu singing routine in which a girl belts out a word-perfect rendition of Universal Soldier (in the English-dubbed version at least). The protagonist has a blind mother and a no-good younger brother whose lack of college education sees him fraternising with some underdesirables. He soon gets beaten up and involved in organised crime which is where his older brother steps in. Sadly, the action is poor and everything feels dragged out and more than a little monotonous.
