Solid crime movie with one exception Warning: Spoilers
And this exception is lead actress Mariele Millowitsch, daughter of famous German actor Willi Millowitsch and she turns 60 this year. I watched and liked her in her comedy series "Nikola", but as a dramatic actress (with occasional subtle humor), she absolutely does nothing for me. So I am a bit surprised to see her Cologne-set Marie Brand series running for so long. There have been roughly two films per year since 2008, so by now a total of around 15 movies. The real reason to watch this film is Hinnerk Schönemann. He first attracted my attention in "Mörder auf Amrum", but since then I really liked him in pretty much everything I saw him, including this film here. The way he flirts with the murder suspect is nice to watch and the scene with the exercise machine was pure gold too. His humor and personality make it so much more worth watching.

The film's director Florian Kern has made many crime television movie in his career and is thus pretty experienced. The film's writer, who goes by the embarrassing name Leo P. Ard, is not a rookie either. Their movie here, is occasionally nice to watch and occasionally nothing more than a generic crime thriller. Also the bossiness (she can un-handcuff him too) and boredom of Millowitsch's character always drags the film down when it has a chance at getting truly interesting. And it was fairly expected who the killer would be. I am actually frequently wrong, but here I could see it 30 minutes into the movie. After roughly 70 (of the 90) minutes, they tried to make it look like it was somebody else, but it was not obviously. They do this so often in movies these days and it has become pretty annoying already. Anyway, apart from the two actors I already mentioned, you also may have heard of Thomas Heinze who is also a regular in this series. All in all, I do not recommend this film. It has its moments (thanks to Schönemann), but left me wanting for more and I have to admit it does not inspire me either to watch further installments.
