Another brilliant short from Jaschar L. Marktanner
morrisonhimself3 August 2017
Actually, this was his first short, and in my opinion demonstrates an inherent talent, beyond anything he could have learned in film school.

You can see his talent in his actors' expressions and gestures, and in his use of angles and variation of shots.

Having now seen both his shorts with English sub-titles (I don't know how many others he has without English sub-titles), I can only hope he is able to produce some full-length feature films.

He shows himself both a good writer and good director, and this audience has nothing but admiration.

"Do It Yourself" is available for viewing at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUaW_SeaIHI and I hope you take a look.

Brief relationship comedy Warning: Spoilers
"Do it yourself" is a 5-minute comedy movie and (according to IMDb) the first effort as writer and director for Jaschar L. Marktanner. It mixes love relationship struggles with a funny mix-up story on what a woman is actually talking about. Porn or cooking? The funniest thing about it is probably the line how they will disappear into the kitchen now when his friends have left. I also liked the very last comment made by one of the guys which the woman still obviously hears and we don't want to know what she will tell her boyfriend next. But we won't as this was exactly when the credits rolled in. Another solid aspect here was the very beginning when the film starts somehow in retro style before switching to a very present atmosphere that totally destroys the apparent harmony. I personally found the protagonist extremely unlikeable in here. He was submissive to his girlfriend, did not appreciate her cooking (okay you can excuse that as he was honest at least), but he also comes off as lazy and is then boastful when talking to his friends about how he has everything under control in the relationship. I guess he deserves what is happening to him after the film ends. To me, these five minutes felt like a pretty long sketch that luckily never drags and I recommend the watch. Thumbs up and a really good achievement for a first work.
