Overdramatic
SHU_Movies10 January 2024
Although it's a solid second episode, 'Lowak' just seems to try too hard and doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Does it want to be as serious and gritty as Netflix's Defenders Saga, or does it want to be the epic spectacle most MCU content is supposed to be?

Alaqua Cox is doing a fantastic job portraying Maya and this series has so much potential to bring another dimension to live-action Marvel that has been relatively unexplored since The Defenders Saga and Agents Of SHIELD were cancelled.

That said, even though the script is solid, something just feels off. It's no where near as bad as Secret Invasion, but it's just not the dark and thrilling adventure it could've been.

A solid episode, maybe a step down from the first.

The intro sequence for the episode is bliss. The intro aswell is cool and much better than the AI generated intro from secret invasion.

Side charcaters are built upon in this episode nicely, some subtle comedy and enjoyable moments between charcaters, nothing brilliant but enjoyable chemistry between the charcaters. The main plot of this episode was solid but doesn't really do too much of anything special, although it's good and once again Alaqua Fox is great! Not really any fight scenes in this episode but it wasn't really necessary but is still wanted. The episode also feels short and if released once a week like the other mcu shows then I feel this episode wouldn't feel very satisfactory compared to the first. Overall though its a great episode and still is better than what most people will expect. So far I'm really enjoying this charcater and it's setting a good standard for the street level project It is. It would definitely benefit from more episodes but it's still a fun and positive entry into the mcu, far from a negative. Watch it if you want, don't watch it. Its doesn't matter since its a Marvel Spotlight 7/10.

Lowak
keganwager15 January 2024
WOW! What a episode! I loved the beginning when they show the tribe of Alabama Choctaws that's cool. And I also liked about the episode where it is all about family and that her family is helping her to stop kingpin's army. I also liked her family carrying on the conversation with sign language. Maya is a good character and the whole "It's not chaos it's Power" phrase it really reminds me of the line from Spiderman "With Great Power becomes Great Responsibility." That was awesome!

I loved that so much! I also loved the way Maya is reunited with her family in her hometown that is cool too! Heck yeah.

Lowak
Prismark1011 January 2024
Lowak opens in 1200 AD in what is now Alabama. The Choctaw Indians are playing a lacrosse type game. All I can think is despite all these sporting activities. That tribe had one hell of an obesity problem back then!

In the present day Maya unaware that Kingpin is still alive. Wants to bring down his gang. She allies with Biscuits (Cody Lightning) for help on a mission.

She jumps on a moving train at night to plant a bomb in some box. It goes off in New York in one of Kingpin's warehouses.

That was the exciting action sequence for the episode. All done in the dark so you could not see much.

The rest is establishing different kinds of relationships back at Maya's hometown. Grandpa Skully makes a new prosthetic leg for Maya after the previous one is damaged. Grandma Chula and Maya's previous best friend all learn she is back.

The intriguing one is uncle Henry, the brother of Maya's dad who runs the Roller rink. He would have some connection with Kingpin once.

The episode was not that great. It is still doing heavy lifting with establishing characters and mood. This has been a big problem with other Disney+ Marvel shows. Too much time spent in padding out the story.

LOWAK
moviesfilmsreviewsinc25 January 2024
"Lowak" is a new episode of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that offers a cohesive and distinctive point of view after the premiere. The town of Tamaha, Oklahoma, is introduced, and the episode provides reassurance that Echo intends to do more than revisit old MCU plot points in rushed montage. The episode starts with an unexpected opening prologue in 1200 A. D., taking place at a sporting event in Alabama. This historical scene is unique in superhero storytelling and television in general, and confirms the premiere's Choctaw origin story as an active part of the season's plot. Echo, a popular superhero show, uses a sports setting to connect with ancient Choctaw history. The prologue suggests a mystical element in the storytelling, with descendants of the first Choctaw, Chafa, inheriting magical hand powers from her. Maya's grandmother, Chula, and her cousins Bonnie and Biscuits are also considered for potential powers. The show's structure is based on grounded small town life, Choctaw mysticism, and crime. Maya, free from Fisk's emotional manipulation, is at the center of the story, trying to choose which direction her life will take now. The show's structure is starting to take shape, with the characters connected to grounded small town life, Choctaw mysticism, and crime. Echo, a Marvel series, follows Maya, a character who is tasked with hijacking train cargo and blowing up a warehouse full of his old crime empire crew. Alaqua Cox's performance is outstanding as she is paired with a supporting cast who unlock different sides of Maya's personality. Maya's warmth and playfulness are hints of her warmer childhood personality, which is welcome as Echo is set to be about Maya rediscovering the parts she lost after her mother's tragic death. The big train heist is not a top-tier Marvel action sequence, but it proves Maya's mettle, introduces her new superpowers, and explores her prosthetic leg's role in her vigilante activities. Cox's performance is great, especially when Maya flops into Biscuits' truck bed with a smile on her face. Overall, Echo is a show that showcases Maya's potential and her journey towards self-discovery. The binge-drop approach to Disney's Echo series allows viewers to move on to the next episode without pressure to deliver a satisfying action scene. Initially, concerns were raised about Disney's attempt to bury Echo, but the binge-release was seen as a way to give the show the best chance to thrive. The episode functions as a proper pilot, making it difficult to judge the series based on the premiere alone. Echo's season premiere introduced viewers to Maya Lopez, her backstory, and the events leading up to her return to her home in Tamaha, Oklahoma, after 20 years. Episode two of Echo follows Maya's war to takeover Kingpin's empire, involving estranged family members. The episode improves on the overall pacing and focus, with Maya's mission to bomb Fisk's shipping center providing a narrative focus and contrasting the concern Henry and Chula have with her return. Biscuits' comic relief breaks up tension, but not all attempts at humor succeed. The pacing feels more even and focused on key interactions and characters, allowing for a more even impact of Maya's return without lingering too long. Tantoo Cardinal, as Maya's estranged grandmother, delivers moments of shine as she grapples with her granddaughter's return after 20 years. She conveys a mix of concern, weariness, and longing, making audiences believe she wants nothing to do with the granddaughter she pushed away.

Episode 2 review!
arzu_kelvin13 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First review for this show and episode. Over all it's just all over the place. The train scene is corny. How do they not hear her on the train?? 😤😤😤. Hoe did she get under the train? What are her powers exactly. What kind of lacrosse is this? I have so many questions and not enough answers. Plus when she jumped off the train it was obvious she was gonna make it. Like cmon, it's marvel. Ofcourse she's gonna make it on the truck no problem. And what's with her grandma not liking her? It's not like she had a choice to live the life that she lived. Gimme a break! The ONLY thing good about this show is the exposure of Native American heritage/culture.

Episode 2
bobcobb30115 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We had an action-packed vintage Marvel sequence with Maya on the train and even a signature comedy moment with her remarking how she was not stealing anything, but just setting up a bomb to send a message. This was a solid episode, and a little bit better than the series premiere, but I still feel like the show needs to go a little bit harder in the Native American mythology and background and also why Fisk and his men are still a threat.

But this is a good, slightly edgier kind of content for Disney+ and cursing aside, I feel like this darker tone is more of what I want from Marvel. Get back to what Netflix did well.

Better than episode one!
yoshimasu_k26 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Much like most series nowadays, episode two of Echo was much better than the first!

To start, they didn't shoehorn appearances by Daredevil and Hawkeye.

The episode opens in 1200 AD with an epic lacrosse game between two tribes (ancestors of Maya, it's fair to assume). This is one of the fine examplea of the importance of representation, especially considering Hollywood's history of Native American portrayals.

Also, I'm really enjoying the side characters (including Reservation Dogs' Dallas Goldtooth, Graham Greene, Geraldine Keams, Zahn McClarnon, Jana Schmieding), though they're waiting way too long to bring Devery Jacobs more into the fold!

I'm looking forward to episode three!

Not a Great Show so Far
infinitetyler13 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I was hoping this episode would be less of a music video than the last, but now that characters are doing more talking and interacting it is more reliant on compelling characters and acting, neither of which are present in the show. Vincent seemed like he was at least trying in Ep1. No one is trying in Ep2. Again, the dialogue is early 90's video game level writing.

The effects look especially cheap on the train scene. Lol Echo's power is even sillier on screen than it is in the description. The show starts to enter good-bad territory at this point, in that it's terrible but takes itself seriously. Not quite though, because it still has that made-for-cable-tv reruns at 2pm feel to it.

On the plus side, people are talking and therefore the daytime soap opera background music isn't nearly as distracting. The choice to play layered synthesizer pads through almost every scene is baffling.

S1.E2 - Boring [5/10]
panagiotis199311 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E2) My Live Reaction / Review for Echo Season 1 Episode 2 ''Lowak''. The previous episode was decent and I gave it a rating of 7/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. The episode is only 36 minutes long? That sucks. 20 minutes in and pretty much nothing happens, im bored. The flashbacks are a bit annoying and its like they add nothing to the story. The train scene is far too long, it's annoying. What did she want on that train though? Did she steal something or what? The show has one big problem amd that's the fact that there are no interesting caracters so far, zero character development. Everybody knows sign language? That's so unrealistic. Wow what a boring episode! Perfect to cure insomnia. My rating is 5/10.
