Bob Newhart makes this ep of "The Big Bang Theory"-"The Photon Resurgence"-a really special one
tavm3 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
In this recent ep of "The Big Bang Theory": Sheldon discovers his childhood TV hero, a Professor Photon (Bob Newhart!), is available for children's parties and since both Sheldon and Leonard were kids when they first saw him, they're excited at the prospect of him coming. Meanwhile, Raj needs Howard and Bernadette to take care of his dog while he's away. Anyway, when Photon (real name: Arthur Jeffries) arrives, he's perplexed that there are no children around but stays since there's pretty Penny as part of the audience...Well, with Newhart around, things are even more funny with his trademark deadpan reactions in stock. It's especially hilarious whenever he trades quips with Sheldon. So on that note, "The Proton Resurgence" is an especially entertaining ep of "The Big Bang Theory".

Best episode yet!

I'm a huge fan and have been since the beginning... and I understand there's been a LOT of GREAT episodes (any episode with Leonard's mom, Bath Gift Item Hypothesis, Pants Alternative, etc), but for anyone who loves dry humor this is the best episode yet! I liked the earlier seasons much better than the recent seasons, but this is the exception! Bob Newhart as Professor Proton is absolutely hysterical...while not looking like he's even trying. Penny's enthusiasm and Sheldon's crazy work as perfect foils to Professor Proton. My friends and I have been quoting the episode every day for the last week... I still laugh thinking about it! Phenomenal acting job. I hope he comes back again for another guest appearance!

The Greatest Guest Star

I've looked forward to seeing the Bob Newhart character, Professor Proton. He is over eighty and is still doing kid shows as a TV scientist. He is Sheldon's childhood idol and so the guys hire him. Newhart has the perfect timing to pull this off. I believe him to be the best straight man in TV history. A second plot has Howard and Bernadette dogsitting for Raj.

As much as I love this show, this episode is not very good at all

Warning: Spoilers
Even though I don't agree with most people who say this show got unwatchable after season 5, I've always hated this episode. You really notice the laugh tracks because this one is just not funny at all. Both the main story and back story are pretty bad, but the scenes with professor proton are just very gloomy and quiet. If the laugh tracks weren't there I wouldn't know where the funny parts were. It gets back on track after this episode, but it seems like the episodes that revolve around a guest star are pretty boring. I would hope nobody judges this show on this episode.
