THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!
gracechrista24 July 2023
I've been watching Asian dramas since 2013. Hidden Love shows just how far dramas have come since then. Gone is the era of corny, unrealistic, over-done dramatics and toxic bullying relationships. Nowadays, the reign of realistic, feel-good dramas with healthy adult relationships and no villains or cliffhangers is in. I haven't been this impressed with dramas since Hometown Cha Cha Cha and Reply 1988, both of which Hidden Love reminded me of in parts.

The male protagonist, Jiaxu, is realistically perfect, a great man, a walking green flag, who is caring and loving to everyone around him and especially fond of Sang Zhi and her family (HCCC vibes). The female protagonist, Sang Zhi, is not a dumb damsel in distress, she makes reasonable decisions for her life and falls in love due to relatable circumstances. Even as an innocent teen, she is relatable (a sweet, honest, reliable, and attentive friend of her brother treating her well as a girl). The actors that play them clearly have real-life chemistry as well... the looks that Jiaxu gives her are a little too loving.

This drama is so good because it's so simple, yet completely free of anything problematic, corny, or unrealistic. It's grounded in reality and what real love looks like! There are no ridiculous villains, no over-done dramatics, no cliff hangers needed to keep you watching. Instead, the focus is on the family and friends surrounding the main characters and the highs and lows of their very real life through different eras of adolescence and adulthood (R1988 vibes).

Here's some progressive themes that I was so happy to see brought attention to in this show: menstrual cycles (normalization), predatory relationships (inappropriate age gaps between adults and minors), consensual acts (asking, can I hold your hand? Do you want to..?), prioritization of family, health relationship dynamics (always putting the other person first, anticipating their needs and wants), supporting the other person's dreams and growth.

Yes, it may be slow, but it's totally worth it. I was actually impressed with how short the "will they, won't they" waiting period of the plot lasted; Jiaxu is such a good guy that we don't wait long until he makes his intentions known to now-adult Sang Zhi. Additionally, despite the kid-friendly rating... the couple got shockingly spicy and handsy for an Asian drama (mostly suggestive moments, but plenty of intimate on-screen kissing and hugging).

Hidden Love is complete and well-thought-out. Nothing was rushed, everything was given its time, and I felt rewarded for watching. The effort put into this was apparent, and it's clear that women directors and writers were behind it all. 10/10, easy. I recommend this to every lover of Asian dramas as a MUST watch.

All the feelings in the world...Zhao Lu Si will make you feel her unbreakable first love, what an outstanding performance!
hanalisss22 July 2023
I would say that my favorite thing about this drama is the outstanding actors. This power couple is just a 10z

I have followed these two young actors for a long time, and although I know they are young they are just extraordinary.

I love them both and Chen Zhe Yuan is just as great ( how great he was in our secret !!!) but I just have to highlight a few things about Zhao Lu Si acting. Because I think since I watched her in The long Ballad I just cant get over how good she is.

There's something in her acting that just transmits anything she wants to you. She has a true gift. You will truly believe she is 17 and she is dying of pain holding back tears, watching her first love with another woman.... Her performance in this is just amazing, every gesture, every word, every gaze, she nails her character, making us cry and making us fall in love at the same time she does.... Just awesome.

They have an amazing chemistry together and its really cool to see that kind of healthy and mature relationship displayed once in a while, although we all know is not really realistic at all in the world we live in and the matter with the age gap is more because the difference when they meet was extremely noticeable, 5 years when you are 14 is not the same as when you are 20. So it gets very tricky for them.

One to watch for sure, but I would have enjoyed it if it was longer! Loved this duo.

If you're a fan of feel-good romance dramas, watch this... but also, don't.
zeenaboureslan-0910724 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is by far one of the best romance dramas out there. I have seen so many asian dramas and this one is ranked in my top favorites!

If you are someone who is into overall cheerful, feel-good dramas that make you curl your toes, this is for you.

The two main leads have INCREDIBLE chemistry... let me tell you, once you meet the main male lead, you will never recover. He is the greenest flag out there.

Their acting is superb - you feel their emotions, genuinely. Nothing is forced... their love was projected to us viewers in such a smooth way.

There is no unnecessary plot twists, love triangles, or drama. Their relationship is pure. They bring the best out of each other, and I'm all here for it.

The reason why I also tell you not to watch it is this: if you are like me, someone who feels too deeply, you won't be able to move on from them. I'm too obsessed rn and every fiber in my being wishes they are real characters. If you don't want to feel overwhelmed by that, don't watch it. You will never get over them.

Extremely sweet drama that can make you forget your bad days!
sahutanisha-0144330 June 2023
The leads have played the roles of the characters to perfection! Anyone saying the female lead actress portraying the child SZ was bad definitely didn't know child SZ grew in an overly protective household where the good and bads of the world was still unknown to her that is why her character may come off as more innocent The portrayal of silent crush by the actress was extreme perfection The male lead went out of his was while portraying DJX I could not find a better DJX than Chen zheyuan I know some of the people will come here without seeing the drama or by hearing someone's unprofessional review cause they didn't watch the complete drama before saying it shows grooming For that let me explain there is not even a 0.1% of grooming here. The male lead always kept respectful boundaries within him n the underage SZ. He saw her as a lil sis only. Whenever he interacted with FL it was always in prescence of her brother n her parents. Once when he thought the female lead had a crush on him because he saw some drawings of him on her notebook he immediately cut off his contact with her There was even a reason why he always treated the female lead and her family respectfully n always willing to help them no matter what.

This drama makes my day better after a 9 to 5 job This drama can make you cry laugh blush all at the same time The portrayal of silent crush and bearing the weight of it and having doubts of never been see as an adult by your crush was done a very good job by Zhao Lusi Chen Zheyuan portrayed an amazing character of DJX who had to leave his youth early to tackle into grown up world because of his father accident and his mother death Not being able to be financially independent in your teenage years having to bear the weight of paying for expensive hospital bills , working multiple jobs at same time just to pay his college fees ,debt and his father's bill and not even getting enough time to grieve for his loss...getting surrounded by debt when you are not even an adult and having a crazy stalker who keeps on making his life more miserable made my heart ache for djx..it was so bad that sometime he felt suicidal even after getting multiple health scares he never felt the need to go and check up in hospital..he just kept on enduring his bitter life till a certain someone showed up once again in his life

I will end my review by saying DJX has always been respectful and careful towards underage SZ so don't twist it into something just because you don't like age gap dramas or heard from someone's review Watch it first before believing into someone's blind review.

Finally the best cdrama
sinahaase-960-74349718 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Finally a Chinese romantic drama without the 2 things I hate the most: crazy unrealistic plot lines that lead to very dangerous scenarios so the hero can save the girl (random kidnappings and what not) and my 2nd most hated thing is when, spoiler warning...

one of them, if not both at different times, decides to leave the other with zero communication all because their parents don't approve and threaten them if they don't listen so they flee and don't say a word. These 2 common themes in Chinese dramas are so irritating yet so common that I was basically waiting for them to happen. For once, the couple stays committed and stays strong towards one another and it was such a sweet, romantic series. The airport scene in ep 24 with the paper stars had me tearing up like a baby right along with them. Ahhhhhhh my goodness I was trying to think of what I would actually change and there's literally nothing so I gave it a solid 10. Comparing this to other series' in its similar genre, yes...it's definitely a 10. I thought the acting was great, writing, chemistry, bingeworthy, (whatever you do, do NOT start this a night before u gotta get up early for work the next day lol!) just really an all around great drama about young love and the choices/sacrifices ppl make as a result of it. I gotta mention one last thing: the brother is a hilarious character and the actor played him perfectly! He wasn't in it as much as I was hoping but still with a smaller sized supporting role, he really stole the scenes. These young actors should be proud of themselves and the work they can produce...perfection!

The Best Drama in 2023!!!
carremia30 June 2023
In my opinion Hidden Love is the best drama in 2023!!! I read the novel and manhua many times and this drama is really faithful to the novel. The chemistry of the leads are so 🔥🔥🔥 along with their acting, you can really show on their facial expressions how they feel without over acting. The drama and the plot might be too simple and some people might find it boring but It was not. The drama show about family, how to love and support each other without heavy misunderstanding. The director choosed the best actress and actor to played hidden love drama and the success kudos to all the hidden love teams.

a sweet and dignified love story with lots of sweet feelings
deysarkarayroti28 June 2023
I have been an avid viewer of countless dramas, each with its own unique charm and appeal. However, one particular drama holds a truly special place in my heart. From the first episode, I was captivated by its allure, and my affection for it has only grown with each passing installment. This drama, unlike any other, has the power to transport you to a realm of tranquillity, effortlessly alleviating the burdens of everyday life. It is nothing short of a masterpiece.

The exceptional quality of this drama lies not only in its ability to provide an escape, but also in the exceptional performances delivered by each member of the cast. Every actor involved in this production showcases their skills with utmost precision and sincerity, creating an immersive experience that makes you feel as though you are an integral part of the unfolding narrative. Their collective talent breathes life into the characters, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer.

The brilliance of this drama can be found in its simplicity. While some may argue that complexity and intricate plotlines are essential to captivating storytelling, this drama defies that notion. Its storyline, though uncomplicated, exudes an undeniable charm that tugs at the heartstrings. It is a tale that resonates with the viewers on a profound level, reminding us of the power of sincerity, kindness, and love. The drama's ability to weave such a heartwarming narrative with seemingly effortless ease is a testament to the brilliance of its creators.

As I sit back and reflect on the episodes I have watched thus far, I find myself overwhelmed with a sense of serenity. This drama provides a respite from the chaotic nature of our lives, allowing us to temporarily set aside our worries and immerse ourselves in a world that radiates warmth and positivity. It is a rare gem that has the power to transport us to a place where all our troubles fade away, if only for a little while.

It is with great enthusiasm and conviction that I wholeheartedly recommend this delightful drama to everyone. Whether you are seeking solace, a brief respite from the demands of reality, or simply a heartwarming story to brighten your day, this drama has it all. It effortlessly embodies cuteness and charm, captivating the viewer from the very beginning. Its ability to evoke genuine emotions and leave an indelible mark is a testament to its brilliance.

In conclusion, this drama stands out among the vast array of shows I have watched over the years. Its unique ability to create a tranquil and stress-free environment, combined with exceptional performances and a heartwarming storyline, sets it apart from the rest. It is a true masterpiece that will leave you feeling both content and longing for more. So, do yourself a favour and embark on this wonderful journey. You won't be disappointed.

Very very sweet drama
I don't why so many haters have tried so hard to down-rate this drama.. this drama is currently a huge hit in china and worldwide now. This is very very sweet drama that always make us laugh, giggles, smiling for each episodes.

There is nothing wrong with FL and ML characters here. In this drama, 5 years age gap are not a big deal at all, they start dating when FL has grown up.. Everything is normal, sweet and good so far.

I love zhao lusi portrayed her character sang zhi so well in the drama, it's completely the same as novel, and high school sang zhi to university sang zhi are all good. I also love chen zhe yuan as ML. They are perfect pairings.

Not everyone's cup of tea!
marissareeka12 July 2023
Just so you all know, at first I was a bit flabbergasted to see the high rating of "Hidden Love" got on IMDb, and that was basically one of the reasons I was intrigued to watch this drama series in the beginning. I strongly believe many of you out there had the same reason as I had earlier. Knowing Zhao Lusi was also in the series as the female lead gave me more enthusiasm to watch it right away. I have watched most of her drama series and I am happy to tell you all, I was very pleased with all of her work so far.

Without any expectation, I started watching the series up to tenth episode and surprisingly I did not get the hype at all and I wasn't really captivated by it. Just so you're aware, I almost dropped it though, but with high determination and motivation I've got left I finally reached the last episode. Thumbs up for me!

"Hidden Love" was not a masterpiece but it's surely not the worst either. There were some appreciable scenes or moments that I have to highlight and appreciate. Essentially, if you are someone who likes fluff romance kind of thing, "Hidden Love" is a perfect choice for you. But if you are someone who does not enjoy this type kind of romance, I suggest you to watch something else that is your cup of tea. Cheers!!

International Fan Here: Perfect Drama to Binge Watch!
rousel-361872 July 2023
International fan here:

I don't usually watch Cdrama, but this one piqued my interest. The story is based on a novel titled: "secretly secretly but unable to hide it" by zhu yi. I read some chapters and love that the series made sure it sticks closely to the original source. I love how the story unfolded. It guides the audience on how the relationship started from platonic to puppy love and finally true love. It clearly showed the transition of the guy's feelings from an overly protective older brother to something more. The story tells us about how someone can be one's destiny. Sang Zhi was exactly what Duan Jia Xu needed at the right moments and times. She was the little sister when he needed one. She was like a best friend when he needed someone to share his secret, and the girlfriend who loved him as who he was and will be.

I am a fan of the main and secondary leads acting. Their facial expression is convincing. The dialogues are also very witty and entertaining. I really love this drama and would highly recommend this. It is funny and touching. The sweet parts can also give you diabetes. Hahaha!

Congratulations to the team and crew!

I can't watch this
meghvinimoy-125698 July 2023
After watching the first episode, I can't stand it anymore. What happened to the fight between Sang Zhi and Sang Yan is completely different from what I imagined! Sang Yan doesn't look good, acting feels weird, I really can't watch it anymore, and the introduction talks about why the first episode of high school is junior high school, isn't this messy? What did the director think? I really don't want to complain about Sang Yan, but I really can't stand it. I don't look good, and I can't act. Fortunately, I still read the novel. The TV series and the novel obviously don't match! (I commented only after I watch it seriously)

Use of aesthetics to cover a lacking story
Hlebka11 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, I was not very keen to watch this drama but given the ratings & hype I decided to give it a try. Visually the drama is very pleasing. I liked the first half where it told a story of a young girl having one sided crush on an elder guy who happens to be her brother's best friend. It reminded me of my childhood when I had a similar type of crush. There were scenes which was so relatable such as when she found his name spelling like the excitement was so real.

The second half however was meh and i ff/skipped a lot. There were two reasons for that:

A. The storyline was bland. There was nothing going on plot wise. The leads just met in different clothes & different ambience with flashbacks which was shown like 15 mins ago. Their conversations were like that of a constipated person. The entire line of side characters were made just to make the relationship arc shine which felt redundant. They wasted resources on actors which had no purpose and could have been done by one actor alone. The scope was so limited.

B. The infantilizing of the FL was way worse compared to other dramas. ML attended her PTM, buy pads for her, changed her shoes, cooks and clean for her, picks her from office basically treat her like a 5 yr old. FL parents controlled her too much, yeah one can say this is common in Asian families but that makes you a kid and not a person suitable for romance drama. This portrayal of women is not new in dramaland and has been a constant hit amongst audience so I won't waste my energy on saying like please give us a semi-independent FL or least someone with half a dime of brain, so i'll let it go.

My recommendation- go for a mature plot , there are plenty ones out there. This is not worth it no matter how good looking the cast is and how aesthetically good the production.

My favorite foreign series I ever watched
Moviebuff201930 August 2023
I've been watching Asian drams since 2017 when Netflix started adding them. I'm a 65 year old white American male , so if I like it, anyone can like this show. I have watched many excellent ones like Pachinko, Meteor Garden, Rational Life, etc. But this one is my favorite.

Such a realistic story, never a fake moment. The chemistry between the leads is unmatched. Zhao Lusi is a very talented actress and I am now watching 3 of her other shows !

I'm only on episode 17 of 25 and look forward to the rest of the series. Easily a 10/10.

Rarely does a show make me laugh and bring tears to my eyes, but this one does.

Best Romantic drama I have ever seen
ramisazaman-675013 August 2023
I love Duan Jiaxu and Sang Zhi's character. I'm so in love with the drama. It makes me feel happy every time I watch it. I'm even watching it twice.

The story was quite simple that it touches our heart so easily. The whole drama contains was detailed which makes it even more real. Additionally, the actors made such a good on-screen chemistry that I'm obsessed with them right now. I can't put my words together that how much I liked the drama. The drama songs are even better then anything to chill my mood up. I can feel the melody of the songs even if I don't understand Chinese language. I must say that this is the best, cutest and strong drama in my life. Thanks.

The kind of drama I miss, go with the flow, it's not weird at all.
Lookingfordrama21 July 2023
After a long time, I can see a drama that is indeed romantic and sweet. For some viewers, it might be cheesy, weird, but I miss series that are not heavy and sweet. Some say this series is weird because it falls in love with an adult. Hey, you're judging before seeing the whole drama. There are even many explanations in the drama. Why Duan Jiaxu is nice to Sangzhi, you all asked about this, the drama has all the answers. You need to follow the plot or look first before criticizing. I'd like to answer the part that you found weird, but it would be a spoiler. Guys, this drama will answer all the weirdness you thought. Just go with the flow.

One of the best Chinese drama this year!
jeanys18 July 2023
The story line was very simple yet universal it touches across social & cultural boundaries lines. The actors & actresses were both attractive & talented. I liked the fact the respect the program showed towards the parents & Also liked the fact that main characters had to fight hard to preserve their love & to overcome their personal challenges. Their were no magic pills on this one...except a few things that was huh...really...oh...no...but besides that it was cleaned show, the whole family can enjoyed. It is for anyone who had a crush on their best friend sister...im joking..lol Love believe all things, conquer all things...True love never fails.

One of the best romantic modern cdramas ever made
reetangseed30 June 2023
We already knew that Zhao Lusi is one of the best chinese actresses out there. Her methodology, her acting skills, her attention to the script and the characterisation have always been immaculate. But I think the best revelation of all have been Chen Zheyuan as Duan Jiaxu, the suave, charming character who is so at odds with the real actor yet developed and created by Zhe Yuan so perfectly. Even though Zheyuan had successes in his filmography, Hidden Love stands as one of his best works so far with his micro-expressions, his intricate thoughts and charming but hard-working personality.

These drama is one of the miracles to happen among so many disastrous romance dramas in Chinese dramaland for 2023 and will stand as a testament to the fact that good script, a healthy production process and hard-working actors with strong professionalism can never go wrong !!

A love story, told with simplicity and feelings.
peggy7735926 June 2023
What a lovely story, totally relatable and delivered with heart felt dialogues. The cast is great and so pleasing to the eye, especially the male lead, his glances speak volume. The background music, songs are just right. It is not a drama only for the fandom, but a genuine piece of work suitable for many. It took me back to my school age, there are similarities in events and feelings. The awkwardness, silent hopes and wishes, school work, study, fights and yet protection between siblings. Then comes the growing up, the process and responsibilities, I am half way through the drama and wish it would never end.

Slower than molasses
TNT19847 July 2023
I don't really have anything good to say about this drama. Except the kid in the beginning was really good. I saw all these great reviews and man was I disappointed. It is so slow and the actress is terrible, overly dramatic being young. And it's super slow. Where's the comedy? I can't believe that I spent that much time on this.

I saw one or two of this actress' drama and thought they were pretty good but this one was boring. The real brother part was good. That's about it. Reminded me of my older brother. But I waited and waited and no more of that came out. I finally dropped it. I didn't care for the male actor either. I saw him in another, and had to drop that too.

ADDICTIVE ,UPLIFTING AND TOOOOO CUTE!!
poojakinra4 September 2023
Probably the best performances, best OST and the most sensitive writing I have seen in a long time! This has become my all time favourite romance drama.

The story progresses so naturally and is so believable. There is no unnecessary drama, all characters are good and positive souls. Its so refreshing and uplifting to watch.

The cute bickering between the siblings, the swoon worthy moments between the main leads and the adorable friends around the cast - each scene has a place, each scene makes you smile, each episode makes you root more and more for the main leads. Its a perfect representation of hope and all things good with our world. I loved it and how !!! Re-watched it as soon as it got over; that says a lot about how I feel about it :-)

Heart sizzling romance that will hit all your feels
leahcubed13 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a 2023 Chinese romantic drama with 25, 45 minute episodes. It is adapted from the web novel entitled "Secretly. Secretly but unable to hide it".

First I will provide an original synopsis then review

Synopsis

Sang Zhi (Zhao Lu Si) is your typical younger sister who engages in all the standard sibling rivalry but acually looks up to and relies on her older brother a lot. Her older brother, Sang Yan (Victor Ma) brings his best friend, Duan Jia Xu (Chen Zhe Yuan) over a lot to hang out and play video games. The spirited Sang Zhi is immediately drawn to the kind and more tolerant than her big brother, Jian Xu. She asks him to help her with some trouble she is having at school and that sets the stage for a relationship of quasi sibling hood that develops between the two. He becomes like her second brother but the good brother who never torments her. Amd she is like the mischievous amd charming little sister he never had. After all she is five years his junior and a kid still in school while he is in college. As the years go by and their relationship deepens, Sang Zhi is the first to realize the feelings she has are not at all sisterly. As things develop you realize the spark was always there and these two, who have hidden their feelings from long, even from themselves, are unable to force an ending only because of their beginning.

Review

Overall it is one of the best romantic comedy dramas I have ever watched and I am currently at over 270 Asian dramas, mostly romance, watched. There is a reason the majority of reviews are overwhelmingly positive. If you like coming of age, age gap, she falls first but then he falls harder, romances this one is perfect for all of that. If you like a lot of intrigue and plot twists then this may not be as much your ideal. The chemistry between the two leads is so on point it would be easy to understand them dating in real life. Both actors are amazing and you really feel every emotion they go through.

Spoilers* I read several reviews where people were worried that Zhao Lu Si might be in a role where she suffers as a character, that is how much people like this actress. So for those that worry about that it is not like that. She does have some scenes where she is heart broken but they more than make up for it later. So your favorite actress is not going to be in some Nicholas Sparks like Greek tragedy. It is very heart warming and she plays the role spectacularly as I am sure, if you are a fan, you would expect.

I did not feel like the age gap was large at all. I did wonder how they would transition from their brother/sister like relationship to a romantic one but it actually made sense. It was like he also had hidden feelings for her way earlier than he even admitted to himself. They were very soul mate like so it is not at all hard to envision them gravitating toward each other. Once the brother got over the fact that his best friend was attracted to his little sister it seemed he picked up on just how perfect they were for each other. This was apparent when the brother actually stuck up for them a bit with the parents by going with Jia Xu and nodding his approval in the background.

Personally I identified with the sibling relationship between the brother and sister. My brother is 5 years older than me and our relationship was much like theirs. I did date one of his friends and he dated several of my friends (I called him the friendship killer). The difference was he actually trusted his friends to date me more than someone he didn't know. He really should not have because his friend was one of the worst people I ever dated and I only dated just that one of his friends. So I could see where it could go either way. Of course I did not date his best friend, the one he trusted acting on his behalf, I dated just a regular one of his friends. It may have been different, and my brother may have felt betrayed more, if it was his best friend. But, because my situation was very similar I could really relate to that sibling relationship and I am sure others would as well. It was a very nice part of the series to explore that relationship.

I did not get the age gap thing being an issue once she was an adult. Five years is not a huge age gap it is within most normal ranges. The girl that played the younger Sang Xi (Zhang Xi Wei) did a fabulous job but did not look 14, she looked much younger. So, it did make the age gap seem a lot larger in their younger years. They did a remarkable job with Zhao Lu Si making her look younger than her actual years by just changing her hairstyle and makeup.

There were no compelling 2nd or 3rd romances and the love triangle was not that persistent. But the romance between the lead characters was so intense none of that was needed. It would have been nice to see the brother with someone and they did drop a hint about something when he knew so much about birthing centers and that never bore out.

I think the second most heart warming and interesting relationship was between the brother and sister. He called her "Little Demon" which was so cute as it reflected that kind of playful rivalry siblings can have for the parent's affection. She was your typical little sister and he was very much within how most older brothers are. It also reflected what I understand about the shifting view of daughters in China. There were so few females at one point because of the one child policy and favoring boys during those times that daughters actually became precious once the policy opened up. There was a part where she was having a really hard time on her internship and she just wanted her brother. But, it showed he was accepting her relationship and even embracing it when he said you have Jia Xu.

I loved what a warrior to his defense she became when anyone was "bullying" Jia Xu. He had such a hard life because of the horrible incident surrounding his father that I wanted nothing but happiness for him. When the crazy daughter of the man who was hit and killed by Jia Xu's father threw water at him and she, without hesitation, turned and threw water right back at her I cheered. I also loved that she made it clear to him that she did not all feel the sins of the father were his own. She even was willing to combat her brother when he beat him up. I was a bit angry with her brother for doing that as well and was disappointed when they seemed to lie about him hitting him back. The cut away scene when they showed that he actually did hit him back was a perfect way to wrap that up. I was glad he did not lie to her even to protect her brother.

In other dramas I have been disappointed when the lead would be made to distance themselves because the parents did not approve so I loved that she even took her parents on for him by leaving early when their harsh words drove him away. In really good relationships, the significant other is the first person you can count on being on your side and having your back. The depth of their relationship and connection was apparent in the fact that you could see they were hurt too when the other one was hurt either physically or mentally.

There was a separation, but it made complete sense. He was going back to her hometown to set things up for their future. And neither of them were okay with it but went through it as they knew it was the best in the long run. The scene at the airport where she wanted every last second with him and he indulged her because he actually wanted it too was so cute. I loved that they did not follow the tired trope of I must go away and I am just okay abandoning you in the middle of a deep relationship. And the reason the person is going away is usually inane and you feel like yeah I get you want to do that but why do you insist on doing it now. Or can't you just do that with the person you love? This wasn't like that. His going was actually because he knew how important her relationship with her family was to her and there was no reason he couldn't resettle there as he no longer had a family tying him to his hometown. He also was taking steps to make their financial future more secure. And he wanted to make her parents more comfortable with his ability to provide and take care of her. So all of the reasons he had were good ones.

The proposal scene was just beautiful. I was fully tricked by his surprise as well. It was really sweet and seeing her family there just beaming about it was very heart warming. It was clear that they fully accepted it and that he was now going to be a part of that loving family.

Realistic Cuteness Overload; A Breath of Fresh Air
ENIGMA0522 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Never expected this drama to be so realistic and light. I watched primarily for CZY because I wanted to see him develop into a mature male actor. I've seen several actors previously so I knew it would be a good cast. It really was cuteness overload but probably one of the least toxic c-dramas I've ever seen. It was a real breath of fresh air.

Pros: Favorite character was ML and I'm very proud of how he's grown from playing younger roles to a mature male who let me tell you, when he turned on those eyes of his, he'd melt women of all ages into a puddle. Other than that, he was also probably one of the most caring individuals on earth. Life dealt him a very cruel hand with what his father did and that stalker chick, but instead of curling into a ball and giving up, he just strove to be a better person worthy of the love of everyone around him especially the only one who truly loved every piece of him, our FL SZ.

Most of the story was very well developed. And honestly, other than the stalker chick, there wasn't a single character I didn't like. She was the main antagonist I guess you could say. FL, her parents, bro and all of their friends were just wonderful. I do have to say that I don't know about China but in the US, if you live as a resident in a quad in college, it's beyond rare that everyone gets along so well. I was never a resident but a commuter but my resident friends told me all sorts of stories back in the day. The fact that SZ lived with and got along so well with her roommates just adds to the loveliness of this story.

This story had you mostly laughing at the antics of our leads and everyone else. But it was also very inspirational and sometimes it even made you tear up. SZ was more mature in some aspects then people gave her credit for. Though I do wish many of her inner monologues came out of her mouth instead, she was endearing, kind, respectful, caring, loving, and fiercely protective of those she loved the most.

Everything had its rightful progression to a point. I have nothing to complain about the settings, OSTs, etc. Their moments together once they start coming together were the best and of course the comedy. But there is a con section though it won't be that long.

Cons: While I understand the misunderstandings as people have that makes them imagine or overthink when they're young; but it shouldn't happen when they're adults in a relationship or even by 12th grade in high school. Miscommunication is a known relationship killer. SZ never asks DJX what he's thinking but goes full steam ahead on her own assumptions which are usually worse case scenarios and completely false. DJX also doesn't open up to her and then they end up finding out through other means and how foolish it looks. But instead of learning and not doing it again, they keep repeating it. Even by episode 24, she still thought he was considering breaking up with her.

Then DJX's not dealing with the stalker as soon as he paid off the debt. Why? Her harassing him just complicated things for him both literally and psychologically. If he didn't find out she went after SZ, would he ever have dealt with her? What if she flew to Nanwu to find him?

The thing I wish there was less of were the flashbacks of SZ's childhood. Like once she became an adult, end those. We know what's going on. It wasn't until episode 3 that this drama picked up for me. But I'm very glad I stuck around.

Would I recommend it? Definitely. From all the ones I'm watching it was the only one that made me laugh and love little moments that I would rewind just to get a little bit more. I'm very glad I watched this drama and you should give it a chance too.

It's something else cannot be described in words
sqwsmjbry4 August 2023
Loved both of them but Male lead was most favourite and is a great actor, this drama alone can prove it. I feel like he was a completely different person before falling for her and once he starts falling for her. I knew this drama is going to be one of my most favourite after I realised what's coming as her makes the first move and flirts with her. That's it there was a complete switch in his personality and he is called GREEN FLAG for a reason. I wish for love like their.

It's been a while I have loved a teenager love story so much.

My 2nd CDrama and will always be the best for me.

Literally difficult to move on.
