Predictable, Bland, and Atypical
magneto-1618 April 2013
Having become accustomed to Castle's great characters, ensemble interaction, and overall fun, I was never overly bothered that plots are often a bit weak or predictable. Unfortunately, this episode lacked the character interaction that makes this series hum. Everything felt a little strained, all just a bit out of sync. Gags and lines fell flat, and Castle's normally charming willingness to be open-minded to bizarre possibilities was just annoying.

Add to that a dull plot and a(nother) predictable outcome, and the whole thing fell flat. It had little drama and less humor. I'm so glad this is not typical for this series. This seemed to be one of the inevitable clinkers with which long-running series and their fans must contend. It wasn't awful, it just wasn't Castle.

Shame on the writers!

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, this show has had up's & down's. Some episodes you need a tissue, some make you laugh so hard it hurts, others might call for an anti-anxiety pill! I think at this point we are all eager to hear what crazy theory Castle will come up with, and nothing is too crazy at this point. Bigfoot isn't what I take issue with (I'm from the PNW, it's our bread & butter). But a woman's face is mauled, a dog is mentioned & of course they have to blame a pitbull.... REALLY. Find a new scapegoat Hollywood! I realize I am watching this episode 10 years after it's airdate, but even in 2013 this was unacceptable. Plus the whole "walk in the woods" scene... come ON!!! This episode was just not up to Castle standards.

Just may be the worst episode of the series..

Often a really good episode is followed by a not so good one. This one though was really terrible. OK, so Castle has an imagination and an affinity for the supernatural, but even still, this episode is too much even for the non-thinking viewer. Bigfoot loose in NYC?? Really?? Truthfully, one of the great attributes of a fictional detective is that they aren't swayed by superstition and folklore....so why is Castle such a great detective and yet can have beliefs that make no sense for someone so astute. Even more so....all the previous episodes with vampires, werewolves, zombies etc....he has been wrong EVERY time. You'd think he'd learn. This episode was the first one as I go through the DVDs that I can't finish.
