Boring boring boring
ChrisChibnall_Burner5 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I had hopes coming into the final 6 episodes of FTWD that there would actually be some decent story telling and an interesting plot to finish off the series. After 8x07 and 8x08 I did have some hopes, but that has gone down the drain, especially over the last 2 episodes

Troy... what a waste of a character. He achieved absolutely zero in his comeback and was completely useless in the grand scheme of the plot with him just getting killed off at the end.

Madison is annoying as ever in her return, and I really wish she never came back into the dumpster fire that is FTWD.

Victor, Daniel, Luciana, June, etc, have all managed to become utterly pointless over this half of the season aswell, but I guess there's time to have another bunch of new characters introduced, in the name of Alicia's fan club, instead of focusing on the OG cast.

Thank the Lord that this series ends next episode. How Chambliss and Goldberg were even allowed a final season of this show really surprises me as all their seasons (except for season 6) have downright sucked.

4.5/10, and maybe that's generous.

S8.E11 - Another Boring And Disappointing Episode [5/10]
panagiotis199319 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S8. E11) My Live Reaction / Review for Fear The Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 11 ''Fighting Like You'': Episode 10 was bad and I gave it a rating of 5/10. The previous episode was very disappointing, I hope this one is better. How did Troy's child end up inside Madison's car? Makes no sense. I guess it's because of magic. Tracy is so annoying and her acting is awful. Troy has a serious injury and he is not even bleeding. Troy's story about how his wife died is sad but I didn't feel anything about it. So they are in that swamp and they cant get out but they get out off camera, why they do this? It's simple, just let us watch how they did it.

Conversations and more boring conversations. Victor wants to give Troy a second chance? I don't know if he deserves it. Wow, Madison attacks Troy, I didn't see that coming. I guess Madison doesn't believe in second chances. I expected a cooler death for Troy though. I wonder if we are going to see what exactly happened to Alicia, this is so annoying. Tracy is Alicia's daughter? What? How? Wow this episode was so boring. Nothing really good about this episode. At least there is only one episode left. Overall this episode was bad. My rating is 5/10.

With this, the series' great villain ironically becomes Madison herself, and I hope this is well used in the final episode, even though I'm sure Alicia will reappear alive
fernandoschiavi5 May 2024
Troy begins leading a massive herd to PADRE, but his truck is wrecked by a trap, causing Tracy to seek out Madison's help. After a brief scuffle, the two reach a deal where Madison will help Troy bury his wife Serena and reunite with Tracy and he will lead them to the herd. Troy reveals that Alicia had saved Serena from a walker bite, causing Serena to follow in Alicia's footsteps. Serena was killed in a robbery while answering a distress call, causing the grief-stricken Troy to blame Alicia and Madison. However, the two are attacked by a vengeful Ben Krennick who seeks to reclaim PADRE for himself. Ben reveals that he and Shrike had rescued Madison from the destruction of the Dell Diamond baseball stadium and used her love for her children to manipulate Madison to do their bidding.

Madison draws in walkers who devour Ben while Troy unexpectedly saves her life. A remorseful Troy admits that Serena had encouraged him to continue helping others even after it killed her, and Troy willingly helps Madison's group to stop the herd. Believing that Alicia giving Troy a second chance got her daughter killed, Madison fatally impales Troy with Alicia's prosthetic arm rather than making peace with him. Before dying, Troy implores Madison to take care of Tracy, claiming that she is actually Alicia's daughter who Troy had kidnapped.

Imagine a brief mental exercise and picture the episode without Crane and his henchmen. It would be much easier and smoother to work the central conflict of the chapter without these supposedly dangerous detours to create fake suspense. Even the branch stuck in Troy's shoulder after his truck is catapulted by one of Crane's traps (who must have learned from the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi) is a poorly utilized element, as it seems that the one-eyed villain is completely stuck there to the point where he can't get out to help his daughter. However, when Madison shows up, he jumps out of the truck with the branch and all as if nothing happened, gets into a fight with her, and then still has the strength to dig a grave for his zombified wife and hit Madison in the head with a shovel. I don't usually complain about problems like this in a series, but it was just too ridiculous, too much negligence for a supposedly important moment.

If it weren't for the truly magnetic presence of young Tracy (Antonella Rose proves to be one of the best in the cast), who basically has an answer for everything and doesn't let anything slide, I don't know if I would have endured all the chatter until the moment when it seems like her father is going to finally and magically turn good, only for Madison to drive Alicia's mechanical arm into his stomach, giving her time to say that Tracy is his granddaughter. It was obvious that Madison would do what she did (and it was quite ridiculous that Troy didn't suspect anything), and it was even more obvious that Tracy would be turned into something else at the last second, even though her being Alicia's kidnapped daughter seems strange to me, perhaps a lie from Troy to make Madison take care of the girl. But at least the showrunners had the courage to have Madison kill Troy once and for all. Leaving him alive would have been a complete mockery.

With this, the series' great villain ironically becomes Madison herself, and I hope this is well used in the final episode, even though I'm sure Alicia will reappear alive and well with some explanation for her long absence, leading to a happy ending for the Clark family, even if Madison dies again. As for the other characters, well, I believe they will only be part of the background of the final chapter, as they have all been completely wasted by Chambliss and Goldberg so far, and there is no reason for that to change.

The penultimate disappointment.
simianfriday19 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The episode opens with Troy's soldiers carrying tape players and, in an absolutely marvelous display of synchronicity, they're all playing the same cassette tape at the same time. I've previously criticized this show for trivializing how easy it would be to find things like batteries and fuel this far into the zombie apocalypse as even the other shows in the Walking Dead universe have mostly been using horses and other means of transportation for a while now, but somehow fuel scarcity doesn't affect those in the Fear universe. However, what I find almost as ridiculous is that these soldiers somehow managed to find 5 copies of an identical cassette tape - Mountain's Mississippi Queen - so they could play it together to lure the walkers toward PADRE.

Now, I dunno about any of you, but finding a cassette tape *TODAY* is not the easiest thing to do - I can't imagine finding 5 identical copies of the same cassette tape 15+ years into the zombie apocalypse. Never mind that all they really had to do was pop a single cassette into one of their vehicles and use the stereo in that instead of this ridiculous portable stereo setup they were doing. Anyway, that's a minor thing but just indicative of how little thought goes into making this show even remotely plausible.

In the next scene we have Troy and his daughter (Tracy) in a pickup truck driving slowly along the road, leading a large horde of walkers toward PADRE. At some point they drive over a boobytrap in the road which triggers a giant log that swings out from beside the road and smashes into the side of the pickup, sending it hurtling into the trees on the opposite side of the road. There are several issues with this scene but I'll focus only on the two big ones...

First of all, the log trap smashed directly into the passengers side of the pickup - it would have squished Tracy into a bloody paste - but somehow she escapes entirely unscathed. Presumably Tracy possesses some sort of teleportation power that allowed her to escape the vehicle at the moment it was struck by the trap, I can't think of any other way she could have possibly survived this. Marvel's X-Men mutants in the Walking Dead universe confirmed? Troy didn't fair as well though, as he is impaled by a tree branch and pinned to the drivers seat of the vehicle, unable to move.

Tracy is standing safely outside of the vehicle when Troy wakes up. She tells him that he's been "unconscious for hours" - here's where the second major problem with this scene comes into play... They were literally leading a horde of walkers mere feet from the back of their truck at the time that it was hit by this trap. If Troy had truly been unconscious "for hours" as Tracy said, he would have already been walker chow, as that entire horde would have surrounded the wreckage of their vehicle and ripped them both apart by now.

Troy tells Tracy she needs to go find Russell but she refuses to go to Russell because she doesn't want to leave her dad. Instead, she decides she'll go "find help" for Troy. This is just hilarious because, again, we're 15+ years into a zombie apocalypse. It's not like help is right around the corner when something like this happens. It's not like you can just run out into the road and stumble upon somebody to help you...

Oh, wait... that's exactly what happens. Madison, driving the MRAP, stops somewhere along the road and gets out to have a little chat with Strand. While she's talking to him, Tracy hops into the back of the MRAP to use the radio and call for help. Madison confronts her and gets her to say where Troy is - then Madison heads off to finally kill Troy.

How ridiculously contrived.

So Madison makes it to Troy, they have a little chat about Alicia, and Troy's wife, etc. Nothing much of consequence is really said here, it's just mellow dramatic nonsense for the sake of it. Eventually Troy tries to escape but falls into the most conveniently placed pit trap of all time. It's revealed that this pit trap was dug by Crane - of the OG PADRE crew - how exactly he knew that anyone would be running through the woods at this exact location, at this exact time, so he could be there to catch them in this trap - well... I guess we'll never know. If only Madison and Troy had Crane's father's binoculars they could have "seen what's coming" and avoided these absurd traps.

Crane takes Madison and Troy hostage and demands that they help him retake PADRE. There's some bad dialog and threats before Daniel and Luci show up. Some nonsense happens and then Crane chases Madison and Troy over an old rope bridge (that looks like it's from the cutting room floor of an Indiana Jones movie) suspended over a swamp full of walkers. Crane cuts the rope as Madison and Troy are crossing and they fall in. Crane stops to gloat a bit and then walkers appear out of nowhere and eat him. Yawn.

Blah blah blah. Stuff happens. The horde is broken up. Blah blah. More stuff happens. They debate whether they should give Troy a second chance. In the end though, Madison stabs him with Alicia's severed arm just before Troy reveals the most predictable "twist" of all time - Tracy is Alicia's daughter and Madison's granddaughter.

Wow. What a twist. It was so shocking I couldn't stop rolling my eyes and laughing. Truly amazing stuff here. There's just one problem... Tracy is too old to be Alicia's daughter and literally anyone who knew Alicia wasn't pregnant at the time they last saw her would know that immediately.

The AI that writes this show should be proud.

At least it's nearly over
nachosstables-p3 December 2023
I purchased this last season of FTWD despite the previous seasons declining in quality as I wanted to see it though

It's so bad I feel like the writers have been trolling us. This episode stands as an example of everything that has gone wrong with the series. Awful dialogue. Ridiculous plot lines. Actors who look like even the pay check isn't enough to make up for the humiliation they are enduring.

I won't write a long review as I suspect the number of people who reach this point in the show will be so vanishingly small that they won't need a lengthy critique as to whether or not to watch it.

Second Chances
FilmBrat10519 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Troy was never here for redemption, he came back to be an antagonist and die. It's your fault if you're upset by his death.

I completely forgot about Crane, I wonder if I'd've even noticed that loose end if they never brought him back. He mainly acts as an introspective dump to Madison & Troy, but mostly Madison. His death and the action altogether throughout is all thin and boring. I did like the car trap in the opening minutes.

This season has had a theme of 'Can people fundamentally change their character or only their behavior?' which is most prominent with Troy, Victor, Daniel, & Madison. Whether or not they can actually change their character, the behavior is separate and ultimately up to them. Troy may have changed his behavior toward the end, but Madison could not trust his character, and that ended in his demise. It was nice to have Daniel Sharman back and he did a wonderful job as always, though I do wish they gave him a little bit more classic fun Troy bits to play with.

For the penultimate episode in the series, I can't call it a decent setup for the finale because I'm not sure what they're building up to, so I'm going in with no expectations for anything. Let's hope Ian & Andrew somehow, someway brought back the inspiration and energy they had for S6 when writing the finale and landed it well.

Warning: Spoilers
Very, very bad writing. Redeeming Troy for the whole episode just to kill him off in the end. What was the point of returning him? Madison, Victor, and even Daniel have done awful things (Victor !specifically!) and yet he's well and alive with his *second chances*. Don't we all remember how he behaved in his tower? :) Oh, and also one more thing, namely, why didn't AMC release just 1 episode and then the next one - next week? They just knew that no one would watch it after killing off the most charismatic person on the show. Anyways just to wrap it up - awful episode, awful writing. No other words.

THIS IS FEARTWD.
fountasalexander19 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've been watching FearTWD since 2020, and with all the awful garbage that's been thrown our way since Kim Dickens departure, FearTWD is heading for an AMAZING finale.

The emotions in the last scene were so REAL, I just KNEW Alicia was the mother, there was something off about Troy and I guess that was it.

Troy was literally taking care of Madison's granddaughter whilst also trying to find her a home.

It's incredibly ironic that Madison has been trying to kill him HAHA.

I LOVED this episode, and I say that confidently for the first time since Season 3.

Daniel Sharmans performance as Troy Otto was perfection, somehow bringing back a character from the dead was possibly one of the best decisions they have ever made.

It has been a crazy CRAZY journey but we're so close to the end, I'm proud of every single person who has suffered through this overall mediocre show.

HERES TO HOPEFULLY A GREAT FINALE.

Troy Gone
ZegMaarJus8 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Troy, he is attracting a big horde of walkers towards him. Troy and Tracy are leading the big horde of walkers towards PADRE territory. Troy and Tracy got into a car accident. Troy got stuck in his car, Tracy is looking for help. Madison tied up Tracy in her car. Madison fights with Troy. Troy knocked down Madison. Madison and Troy got captured by Ben. Luciana and Daniel rescued Madison and Troy. Ben got eaten by walkers he died afterwards. Madison stabbed Troy with her sword. Troy tells that Tracy is Alicia's daughter. Troy died. Solid Episode of Fear the Walking Dead Season 8, just okay. This Episode felt really boring. A couple moments were exciting!

Just watching for the comments
marcusschenk26 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is like the other 50 episodes before, complete nonsense.

I'm just watching it to read the comments after that. Comments are so more fun than the show.

Okay Alicia is now mother? When in the last 3 Years she gave birth to an eight year old girl? Or is this fast growing girl just because the radioactivity? Godzilla did it - why not a small child too?

The Swat Truck runs out of ammo in the last episode. And now? Fully equipped - maybe a gun store in the woods. Right next to a battery Shop and/or gas station?

I'm so glad that this show ends now - hopefully Michonne and Rick are waiting in Padre in the last episode.

Fate for a show worse than a natural death - being murdered by writers
imtheamplifier19 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Before the actual review need to mention that I don't want to go back in detail to all the sins of season 8 and other seasons that led this show in such a dumpster. My plan for these two reviews for the last two episodes of this show is to write down every major sin, narrative and story logic issue and writers' abominations i found.

Episode starts with a typical wannabe hype-upper "previously on ftwd", considering the story has become fully forced by now, this is just one another shiny lie at your face because there is no conceivable conflict in the story.

Car gets thrown by a log hitting it's side? Should have been Final Destination 2 log penetration. Cheesy passed-out Troy getting "chrissed" scene.

How can there be herds and walkers at all, it was probably 15 years, are you telling me walkers don't rot anymore?

I am glad that i'm not going to hear any radios mentioned anymore, literally brought up every time in conversations like "And she heard on the radio", "can i talk to her on the radio", "tell her this on the radio". Even AI can write a better story without using a single radio excuse.

Talking dead at it's finest, they spam voice 75% of the time and reveal truth just before dying, ridiculous. Even though i strongly believe Troy died at the dam, letting his existence slide, his appearance on the show was presented like a revenge story, then he befriends with Mad again and she stabs him and he reveals that girl is Mad's grand-daughter, like what on earth was all that, just why making this nonsense? Hello i am Troy i'm going to punish Madison, hello Mad i let you live don't stand in my way, hello i'm dying and i'ma hit you and run, i killed your daughter but i didn't (she died giving birth) and this is not my daughter but your daughter's, why did i keep it secret, guess because i have a severe brain injury after Mad struck me and the entire dam collapsed on my lifeless body.

One final disrespect from dumber & dumber
DetColePhelps14 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So let me get this straight: Troy's whole arc this season was not to extract revenge on Madison for straight up killing him, but instead it was revenge for Madison giving birth to Alicia, which indirectly caused his wife to die because she was saved by Alicia and ended up wanting to become just like her (helping other people). It's all very confusing, i know. What's even dumber, however, is that this plotline was actually copied from season 4, where Martha has the exact same reasoning for wanting to stop Morgan and the group from helping other people. Anyone who thinks this is good writing has to have something seriously wrong with them; it's not even a matter of opinion anymore. I saw another reviewer say it's your fault if you're upset at a 'CONFIRMED DEAD' character being brought back from the dead just to be killed off again for shock value. The lengths these people will go to to defend bad writing is insane. Explain exactly how these last six episodes would've been any different without a major villain. They wouldn't. And it's clear Troy was only brought back as a desperate attempt to gather hype from OG fans of the show, so stop these pathetic excuses. This show (especially this episode) has been a complete circus ever since Erickson was fired. C&G deserves to be blacklisted from writing for ANY media in the future.

Troy.....
cosmocosmosplay20 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Troy Otto death is the most stipend moment in Twd universe, he's too charismatic and cool to be brought back for five episodes and stupidly killed off. The episode itself is very strange, for some reason they remembered some moron from the first half to just kill him in the stupidest way, and the episode itself is supposedly trying to make Madison and Troy friends, but it all looks like an episode from Tom and Jerry. Considering the finale which was the best episode of the season, Troy's death looks even dumber because he didn't kill Alisha and he died for nothing. Bring back Troy Otto.bring back Troy Otto!
